  1. Other possibilities: Farfalla, 1978 Hillhurst, Campagnola, 1553 Westwood Bl, Far Niente, 204 1/2 N. Brand (Glendale), Marino, 6001 Melrose Ave. On the high end, people either love or hate Giorgio Baldi, 114 W. Channel Road (Santa Monica), which gets a lot of visitors from Malibu Colony. Ciao.
  2. We're desperate, but serious.
  3. France and Berlin are very nice places today. Someone with the moniker Hollywood must have an opinion on Bordeaux? Hey, if you're buying, I'm drinking it. I like Bordeaux but Rhone's more in my price range.
  4. So why is the stock down today? Maybe it's that 47:1 P/E ratio.
  5. Angeli Caffe on Melrose is nice and very reasonable, but you won't spot any celebs like at Orso. For a good cheap breakfast in Palm Springs: Louise's Pantry 44491 Town Center Way, Palm Desert, CA 92260 Phone: (760) 346-9320
  6. This is a question some trial lawyers ask jurors (if the judge lets em get away with it) during voir dire. It's sad how many people pick Jesus and how few pick Plotnicki. Gertrude Stein might be good. Thomas DeQuincey? Jack Kerouac when sober.
  7. I thought Swanson's figured this out years ago.
  8. Damn! You went and ruined everything. You weren't supposed to tell him this for six or seven more pages.
  9. What's a lack (?) of firemen have to do with this? Did you see fires burning out of control?
  10. In Los Angeles, it's probably fast food or finger food. At the higher end, I'd say mashed potatoes or pasta.
  11. Some of us would call this gritty edge "lust for life."
  12. In the interest of a good fight, please don't agree.
  13. Why isn't it shrimp with shrimp sauce? Is the sauce ever used on lobster?
  14. Thanks again. Hmm...food coloring?
  15. Maybe Mondavi will follow Andrew Firestone on one of the Bachelor shows.
  16. Since it sounds like you won't be drinking the wine, why not just let your husband order by the glass? That way he can try a couple of wines if he likes, or even a cocktail.
  17. 1. How about The Grill Room at the Windsor Court or The Rib Room at the Royal Orleans? 2. Brigtsen's.
  18. This doesn't make sense to me. There must be promotional and other considerations at work. How else to explain how some obscure one person site can be so high in the voting?

  20. virtually every single california roll i've ever had, at sushi restaurants, is made with this. i quite like it. You, my friend, have been to the wrong sushi restaurants. You're in for a treat when you get the real thing.
  21. Virtually any supermarket California Roll is made with this abomination. But they charge like it's real crab, not Krab.
  22. Yeah, Spicer's Bayona is great. And Brigtsen's is worth the drive. Hook Em, indeed. Not since Slater Martin.....
  23. My dad introduced us to pouring milk over cake when we were young. I think it was a Depression-era thing he was raised on. We still offer cake "in a bowl with milk" to other family and friends who think we're nuts, but it's great. The Depression era story I get from my father in law is about coffee soup--coffee poured over slices of bread in the old bowl.
  24. Wanna buy a car?
  25. Is it Angelina or Angeleno? Regardless, a friend went to their Oscar party and said it was a bust. Just a bunch of wannabees. So, maybe their picks are well suited.
