I don't eat fast food. My reaction to Rick Bayless endorsing Burger King. I will also never eat at his restaurants or purchase his books. His choice and my choice. It is about farming communities, health, the enviornment, and choices.
I hope that he feels that the money is worth it.
Try living in Wyoming sometime and you might change your tune.
I hear you, but isn't there a lot of game available? Does that compensate for the lack of commercial choices?

AWESOME!!!!
WORD!

btw, for you weirdos who have a thing for Rachel Ray, click here.
Been there, done that.

And as for the loyalties of Mr. Vettel...again, who cares? His personal biases are no less significant than those of anyone posting here. His piece has an editorial slant.
I say we make him walk the plank. To Davey Jones Locker with him. Damn! It's not Talk Like a Pirate Day anymore, is it? Maybe we could make him walk like an Egyptian.

Also, am I the only one whom the article struck as written by an unabashed Bayless admirer/apologist?
Some people will do anything to get a good table at 8:00.

Yeah, you can't get more admirable than donating snake oil proceeds to charity.
Mr. Bayless meet Mr. Wine Clip. Mr. Wine Clip, Mr. Bayless.

Why would you compare TWC and our marketing material to a product / company that used a government agency's tests in a misleading manner?
Uh, deja vu all over again. Didn't you say...
"Although we tested it in a lab with people who have PHd's it was not in the way certain eG members (not you) suggest we should have."
I fail to see how you can determine my quote as combative? It wasn't meant to be. I just don't understand the comparison.
Deja vu, Dennis, not kung fu.

Elsewhere Jason asks about the definitive LA dining experience. Putting that aside, if you could only eat 3 meals in LA, where would you go, what would you have, and, if relevant, what wines or other beverages would you choose to accompany the food?

You are grossly altering my quotes and comments. Let me set clarity...
1. Someone suggested we go to a local Univ. and have students conduct a scientific test. My reply to that was simple to understand. There is a report which was conducted by students at a University. I read this report more than 12 months ago when first introduced to the magnetic devise now know as the wine clip. This report, which was on the web, was NOT about the wine clip. It was regarding another magnetic wine product.
2. You may recall that I have a friend that owns a magnet company. They are QS9000 company and ship various magnets to various clients around the world. They were the "scientists" I was referring to.
At the time we began flirting with the idea of going mainstream with the wine clip, there was no vision of needing lab results for posting on the internet (or any journals).
This reminds me of a product liability case I was involved in years ago. Our client's product proudly bore a sticker that read "[insert name of well known federal agency] tested." It turned out the product was "[agency] tested." Unfortunately, the product had failed the test miserably. Yeah, we settled the case.

But you cannot read! I said WINE - I care less about Dinner.
Here the two are inexorabley linked.
inexorabley
Well, maybe conjoined.

Mark, am I reading your experiment correctly: is it correct to say that in every instance you first poured unclipped and then poured clipped from the same bottle? If so, I'd be interested to see you try the exact same experiment without the clip. In other words, pour eight pours from a bottle. Have people taste the first four pours against the second four pours. It seems likely that the later pours receive more agitation and oxygen than the initial pours. Certainly we all know that the first pour out of a bottle tends to be the worst.
Plus mouth effects. The second glass of the same wine in the same mouth may generally taste "better."
-
But Dennis is not interested in that, if I read him correctly. He's only looking for perception of change; to him, perception IS reality.
If only Carlos Castenada were around for this one.

First of all, I do not find Rachel Ray to be the slightest bit annoying. Everything I have seen of her -- and I mean everything -- has left a positive impression.
I think you have a double blind spot when it comes to Rachel aka Ms. Thang.

There are two questions: does the wine clip cause a real change in the wine? is that wine change perceptible by expert (or even non-experts)?
I'm no scientist but isn't there a way to determine this using an electron microscope or some sort of spectroscope?

Russ, I'm not trying to cause anyone grief, I'm just curious about how Shaw gets to do what he gets to do. He seems to know some stuff about food, but IMHO not as much as say you or Colman Andrews for example. Still, he gets to go to France (and Spain) and gorge himself on great meals and wine. He gets to go to wine auctions and place bids on very expensive bottles for himself and Selvaggio (Valentino). He seems like a jet setting foodie with a diplomatic pouch. And he gets paid (handsomely, I assume) to do it. But frankly, allthough his adventures provide vicarious thrills (and heavy doses of envy), I've rarely noticed any meaningul insight into food or wine. I'm not bitter, just curious how this came about. Thanks. And as long as I'm here, what's your opinion on the best burger in LA?
-
Hey, if it works, he can come out with The Roach Clip to make bong water taste like Sensimila Margaux.
-
Submitted for your consideration: If the principle behind the Wine Clip is valid, doesn't it make sense to become best buds with the local radiologist and have him run all your wine thru his MRI scanner? Nobel committee, that's H-O-L-L-Y-W-O-O-D.
-
It's now becoming clear to me that the editing of the ad cuts out the part where Chef Bayless runs the sandwich though the Wine Clip. That's the only logical explanation.
-
To your credit, I have written a few things that were "out of the box" -- but in comparison to some of the things written by others... I'm Bambi.
Here's an opportunity for you. I hear Rick Bayliss is available for an endorsement!
-
Wonder what Jancis Robinson would think of this? Maybe Randall Grahm could make a wine designed to be used with the Clip--a sort of before and after "science" thing.
-
no tommy, she can take one of the 5 that are coming back
Would you buy a used Wine Clip from this man?
-
That asshole (Vila) is trying to persuade folks to do something that is at best fraught with danger and probably downright stupid, namely, put your house up to back up your overgrown credit card bills.
You're right. I wasn't making that comparison. Hope I don't have to refi to get a BK Broiler.

Maybe Casa Del Sol in Santa Monica.
The Wine Question
in eGullet Q&A with Russ Parsons
Posted
I've been waiting patiently for a wine question. As you are no doubt aware from reading this site's posts, California wine seems to get its share of criticism. Lacks terroir. Too oaky. Too fruity. Too expensive. Too[insert judgment du jour]. Giving these criticisms their due, what do you like and what do you think the future holds? Somewhat off topic, do you think Rancho Cucamonga wine/vines are worth saving?
