  1. My mum's homemade, vegetable soup, with lots of barley. Her leek & potato soup. Homemade wheaton bread. Mince, mashed potatoes and heinz baked beans. Sundays roasts with roasted potatoes, carrots& parsnips, courgette au gratin and lots of gravy....I could be here all day. I think I'm getting nostagic. It's been over a year since I've been home or seen my Mum.
  2. This morning, all morning I was craving a calzone from a wee place that I used to go to a lot as a child, it had sooo much garlic stuffed inside, but devine,I think it;s been about 10 years since I had one. DOn't know where that craving popped up from. Now I'm craving Cadbury's Mini-eggs. No chance I'm going to get eihter any time soon. Had to settle for some crackers as I forgot to bring lunch to work :(

    Australian Wines

One to avoid is Yellow Tail. We were at a party and the cabernet was the red and the chardonay the white. Can't really say which was worse. The cabernet was so sweet....even thinking about it gives me the shudders

It is also a cuban thing to cook a pig in a pit. It is a big thing on Christmas Eve, but that doesn't matter. YOu could do an assortment of rice and beans, plantains, yuca con mojo, there is a lot of good cuban sides. All washed down with refreshing mojitos
  5. I love coke with Ribena(blackcurrent kind of syrup). I also used to love Cherry coke. Did they ever do a diet cherry coke? I really didn't like the diet coke with lemon.
  6. When I was younger: Ricicles Coco Pops Start Now. Red Berry Special K Weetabix All Bran with strawberries or bananas Porridge I eat my cereal with the smallest spoon possible to make it last longer an at attempt to stop having the 2nd, 3rd ....etc bowl
  7. Yes, I'm from Donegal, then we moved to Derry. I'll definately let you know if they have the Mileens. Anything that gives me a flash of home is great. Puerto Rico carries very few food products of any kind from IReland, so I love to go to New York and stock up on the old favourites. Carrying them all the way from Irelnad is too miuch.
  8. I think the Irish cheeses just pushed me over. I really miss a lot of the cheeses from home, epecially the ones you mentioned and a good cashel blue. There are not too many places that sell a good variey of cheese here (Puerto Rico) and you will certainly not find an Irish one amongst them.
  9. Hi I wanted some feedback on Artisanal Fromagerie & Bistro. I have been told by one friend it is a must, and she normally is correct and we both share a huge passion for cheese. However, I have also heard that it really is no big deal and the service is awful, waiters with attitudes, etc. Is it worth a visit? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks is advance
  10. Toast with raspberry jam and grated cheese. Cheese & onion crisps in a cheese and ham sandwhiches Diet Coke and Ribena (Blackcurrant cordial) Cheese & banana toasted sandwiches sausage and beetroot chutney sandwiches My friend used to love sugar sandwiches
  11. I agree with the others on La Brigada & Olsen. However the food in Sucre was so so. Only about 50 % of our table enjoyed their food. It is definately great for ambiance, but the food was kind of hit & miss. For brunch you should definately go the Four Seasons. Amazing food, everything you could want and excellent service. Olsen is apparently very good for brunch if you prefer something more relaxed. La Cabana (not Las Lilas) in Recoleta is very good also. Beautiful space, with fireplace. For very local food, very casual, always packed with locals, there is El Desnivel in San Telmo. A freind recently went and also recomended Asia de Cuba for late night.
  12. I would go for tomato soup or a good fruit chutney. Sharp Cheddar and fruit chutney are hard to beat for me.
  13. We were recently in St.Thomas. We ate at a place called Noche. It used to be a Mexican place, but now it is more a Steak place. Everyone at our table enjoyed the food. The Steak was very tasty and they do great salads....I had a spinach and Goats cheese, which was very good, and my husband who has to be forced to eat anything that resembles a vegetable had the lettuce wedge with blue cheese dressing. He still talks about it. Desserts were average.
  14. Yesterday: Miro, San Juan Puerto Rico. Excellent seafood. Ceviche, cuttlefish(sepia) camarones al ajillo, arroz con calamares (black rice with squid). Everything was great. Friday night: The Rock cafe, Virgin Gorda, BVI's very bad assortment of bruschetta, excellent linguine with Lobster. Wednesday night: Noche, St Thomas, great salads and Steaks.
  15. potato bread and soda bread, hot with lots of butter...yum!!!
  16. I've eaten in the Ubiquitous Chip a couple of times and really enjoyed the food. It is good it you want to get a feel for the best of Scottish produce, with a modern twist.
  17. Yesteday: Sepia a la Plancha, ceviche, pan tomate and flan de queso.....so good. Today so far nothing
  18. Hi I have in eaten in Cayenne a couple of times and had excellent food. I also enjoyed lunch at Deane's Brasserie and in some wine bar in a back street that I cannot remember the name of. However will avoid The Appartment in future...too many chances, far too many disappointmets.
  19. For me, St Barth had some great restaurants and also Puerto Rico (but living here I get to try everything they have to over and they do have some great choices). We have had good food in St. Martin also. I would say I have yet to eat well in St. Thomas and St. Joh and the BVI's are hit and miss.
  20. In San juan, you will be arriving into Old San Juan. I think most of the stores stay open til 5 or 6, they have outlets of Coach, Polo, Guess and a few others. For drinks there is the old stable that a lot of people from the cruise ships go to called the Parrot Club. It is Nuevo LAtino style fooda nd the quality is consistent., it is alwyas busy and has a nice bar if you only want to go for some drinks. They do good mojitos. Across the street there is a place called Dragonfly. It is fusion, latin and Asian. It is a really popular, trendy place. Locals and tourists go. It gets really busy and you cannot make a reservation so go early if it is towards the end of the week. They also do good cocktails. Another favourite of mine ( I live in Puerto Rico) is Baru. It is up top on San Sebastian. It is a popular places with locals. The owners are colombian and the service has always been outstanding. Good place for ambiance and either dinner or just drinks. The food is like larger tapas stlyle. Great carpaccios and kind of nuevo latino style food. These are all in Old San Juan close to where the cruises come in. There are many other options if you want to get in a taxi.
  21. The only one I can think of off-hand is Gorden Birsch on Brickell
