  1. We were in the Time Warner on Saturday past and had planned to stop by. The line was huge @ around 1.30pm. My husband can't handle waiting in a queue for food especially when there are so many other options in New York, so we left. It seems, from what I saw, to be doing very well.
  2. Thanks for quick response. I will definately check out one of these suggestions. i will report back on the drinks and the dinner when I get back.
  3. This may be pushing it but...... I just found out (by the wonders of American Express..) that we got a last minute reservation at Babbo for tonight, my flight is is in 2 hours and I need some suggestions for a nice bar to meet up for a drink beforehand. Walking distance would be a preference but not a necessity. Thanks in advance!!!!
  4. How about cereal? When I'm sick and have little or no appetite for anything, cereal usually works. especially Weetabix (not sure if you can get it where you live). Also a cup of tea with toast. I have a friend that is pregnant and currently going throught the same thing. For her, baked potatoes are a life saver and cameo cookies...go figure
  5. I am the same as Mamac. Peach skin. I cannot bite into a peach. I love peaches but they have to have all skin removed. I have the same difficulty with edamame. I cannot put the pod in my mouth and then pop out the beans. I have to deshell them manually. I'm getting goosebumps all over just thinking about it.
  6. Nuff said.......OK I just have to add, Stephen is a plonker of the highest degree. It's the smugness I can't take. I can just imagine him as being that condescending sommelier in a nice restaurant, who makes you feel like you shouldn't be there. I know he's good, but please someone take him off my screen (I've tried mute but he still just looks smug)
  7. Does that include any wine? i have no problem eating 1400 calories or less a day, but how do you account for wine or alcohol in that? I especially need wine at a that time, just to ease the pain of course
  8. It's really disgusting, Ling. I haven't had it since I was a kid, or maybe my college days (same thing?). I think you got the taste right without ever having tried it. The novelty of this product is that it sprays through a star tip, so you can make pretty designs on your cracker. I have to confess that I do like white chocolate. I know it isn’t really chocolate, but I like it nonetheless. ← Me too!!! I have a big soft spot for white chocolate. All fat free products. Low fat I can handle but fat free?? I'd rather go without or have something else. American cheese slices Grape flavoured things
  9. Corrinna's suggestions are spot on. I second every one of them. Especially check out the John Rocca collections of Waterford Crystal. They have some beautiful collections. I don't know if this is any help but; As an Irish person living abroad there are a few things I always bring with me when leaving. Tayto Cheese & Onion crisps. Heinz Salad Cream Bovril Teabags Cadburys Golden Crisp Smoked Salmon Fruit & Fiber & porridge oats If it wasn't such a long journey, I would definately bring cheeses, black pudding, homemade sausages made by our local butcher Soda bread Potato bread Wheaton Bread Butter I miss home!!!
  10. I will never again atempt to melt chocolate in the microwave, for 5mins on high. I was 16 at the time and trying to save time and washing up in a Home Economics class. Needless to say I got a right rollocking from the teacher for almost causing a fire and stinking out the whole lab.
  11. In my home town, the local drunk shouts "show us yer knickers" don't think too many people oblige him though
  12. For the edamame you can try different types of seasonings to mix it up a little. What about some kind of kind of plantain or yuca dish as they will be very easy to get in those neck of the woods. A nice appetizer could be small tostones topped with a tuna or salmon tartare.
  13. I drink both too. It all depends on the mood or if I'm in place that I know does a good mojito. If I"m not sure I'll stick with vodka
  14. My Husband: Pizza, I know everyone likes pizza, but the quantities of Pizza he would eat if given the chance, is absurd. Club Sandwiches, for lunch at any every hotel pool bar Vaca Frita & tostones Churassco My Dad: Steak, for every meal in every restaurant. His own barbeques, same everytime, lamb chops, steak, Guinness & herb sausages & chicken tikka Floury Potatoes, boiled, with tons of butter Sunday roast with all the trimmings I like each one of these foods, however, what amazes me is the quantity and the number times they can have this food.
  15. Love: Freshly made toast Scones baking Sauteed garlic & onions Petrol (gas) always have. Truffles over pasta Freshly brewed coffee Roast chicken. Hate: Dog food from a tin. Boiled carrots tinned tuna Liver
  16. We were having dinner in a bar/restaurant quite recently. It was at the stage were most people at the tables were done or just anbout done with dinner and people were coming in for drinks. Anyway, we were sitting enjoying drinks at our table, delighted with ourselves as we had not only seats but table service as we looked on at the other peolpe crushed up at the bar trying to flag down the bar tenders. All of a sudden this very respectable looking man comes and sits with us at our table. He is convinced (or at least a very good actor) that he is long time friends of ours. He is a complete stranger and extremely pissed at that. He starts telling, or slurring ,to us about his life. No matter what we said could not get him to leave our table. It was kind of funny at the beginning, but after he'd asked the same questions about 3 times and started to try and pick a fight witht the table next to us, it was too much. Our waiter aware of the fact alerted the manager. The manager came over said something to the guy, I don't know what, but he got up and left the restaurant. The manager apologised profusely and didn't charge us for a thing all night. Needless to say this is now one of our regulars.
  17. I know there is a farmers market in Ramelton, Donegal on Friday's from 8am til 12 (I think). It is very small, but you can get nice home baked breads (scones, brown, soda etc), chutneys, cheeses, all kinds of cakes and buns and small section that sells fresh veg and plants.
  18. I quit smoking on New Years Day 2000. My reasons for quitting were really my boyfriend (now husband). Before I met him I lived in a flat in Dublin were everybody smoked and going out at night everybody smoked. That's just the way it was. I really have to say I knew very few people that didn't smoke. When I moved over here and started to date my now husband, he used to bother me so much about smoking, also within his group of friends, nobody smoked! It got to the point that I was embarassed to smoke in front of them. I almost felt like an alcoholic trying to hid the evidence every time I had one. So I just thought the easiest way to get people of my back was to quit (not really the best reason, but a reason). So New Years Eve 1999 I smoked my last pack and that was the last time. It was hard, especially after a few drinks, but what I think made it work for me was that the all the people I was surrounded by were non-smokers. I couldn't even bum a sneaky one if I wanted to. When I speak to my brother who lives in Edinburgh, he has tried to quit many times, but ultimately his downfall is when he goes out at night , has a few drinks and is surrounded by friends that smoke. He is hoping that the new non-smoking laws will help him on this one. Keep trying, it really is worth it. I exercise now (couldn't when i smoked due to lack of breath). If I get a cold it is not so hard on my chest as it is not clogged up with tar and crap, I smell better and I have more money in my pocket.
  19. What about Potcheen (sp) it is an Irish spirit that was illeagal for many years. They have now made a much weaker version whcich isleagal to buy. But the original stuff was first made by the monks and was complete rocket fuel. Really Vile stuff altogether. I want to say that is made from potatoes, but I am really not sure
  20. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this blog. Thanks Megan! We (my husband & I ) are heading to New York for Easter. This blog is going to be a fantastic reference point. Last time we couldn't get reservations for Babbo, so we went to Casa Mono instead. We really enjoyed it. Hopefully we can get a table for Babbo this time. We will of course have to stop in Pegu Club for some cocktails beforehand, in your honour. Are there any special events or parades etc that happen in the city over Easter? Thanks again for putting so much time into a really fantastic blog. Jenny
  21. Flagging energy levels after work are usually caused by mild levels of dehydration. Try for several days to drink significantly more water at work and see how you tolerater exercise at the end of the day. ← Jsolomon I took your advice and really made a big effort to drink a lot of extra water in the afternoon. It really worked. Not only was my energy level normal but I added an extra mile to my usual 4 mile run. That was just the firzst time however, I will continue to do this and see if this was indeed the problem. Thanks for the good advice! Jenny
  22. If I work out first thing in the morning, I do on an empty stomach. I have never had a problem with lack of energy. However if I go straight after work without anything since lunch ( I typically eat a good lunch) I run out of steam very quickly, especially jogging. What works for me is to have a small bowl of cereal and a cup of tea or coffee just before. Thisl makes the world of difference. I guess the caffeine gives me a boost.
  23. Thanks for the blog. I'm amazed that you find the time and energy to do all these things being pregnant. I have several pregnant friends that don't work and find a trip to get groceries a huge undertaking. All the best in your remaining weeks of pregnancy and take advantage of any sleep you can get in preparation.
