  1. Yet Boston Cream Pie is on Team Pie as well. (shenanigans)

I haven't yet committed to either Team Pie or Cake yet. They both have such goodness to offer! It's going to be tough when it gets down to the final two. I was thinking apple would come out on top on the pie side, but now I'm wondering about cheesecake.

  2. I made this today, however it is not low fat. Butter instead of margarine, real cream cheese instead of no fat. I also added more vanilla & cinnamon. Steve's rule, whenever these two ingredients appear in the same recipe, add more for better taste. Also for the cinnamon/sugar mix I used brown sugar instead of white.

I'm glad you tried it and enjoyed it! And yeah, I never use margarine (blech), so I guess I kinda lied when I said "low-fat". Heh.

  3. I am one of those freaky people who categorize my applications...

How is that freaky? Doesn't everyone do that??

Mine are organized slightly differently tho. First page is the apps I use all the time, then I have apps grouped by type, like games together, database-type apps together (including recipes, finance, book library), locational apps, photography apps, etc.

I downloaded Martha's Everyday Foods app, but I haven't played with it much yet. Looked at Jamie Oliver's, but $7.99!? No. The Whole Foods app is pretty nice – lots of good recipes and you can search by diet restrictions – and it's free and has a built-in shopping list.

The app I use most for recipes is MacGourmet. It started as a Mac-based application and then they introduced the iPhone app so you can sync the two and carry your recipes with you – very handy. It comes with a lot of recipes, and if you have the desktop app as well, you can customize and delete theirs and add your own. Can also do shopping lists.

For shopping I just use a basic Lists app. I tried some of the grocery-specific ones but I didn't like the way they organized things. Still looking for that perfect grocery list app.

  4. I made the same smoothie this morning as in the last post but used more banana to thicken it. What I ended up with tasted exactly like Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey!! It was actually a little gross – even though my brain knew it was just fruit & soy milk, I kept thinking I was having a milkshake for breakfast.

  5. I made a low-fat apple cake for a friend who's at home recovering from recent surgery. Lots of apple, coated with a sugar-cinnamon mixture...

just before it went in the oven, with more of the sugar-cinnamon sprinkled on top...

just after it came out, with a lovely cracked top...

    and out of the pan...

I'm very tempted to bake another one so I can show how beautiful it is sliced, too.

  6. Tonight, I attempted to make the tomato cauliflower curry that deensiebat posted upthread (awesome screenname, by the way).

I had the wrong size can of tomatoes, though(about 1.5x too much), but decided to just use it anyway and see what happened. Here it's on the stove reducing down...

And then I almost forgot to add the garam masala at the end. I had it over basmati rice. Very tasty, but too tomato-y I think. I'll make it again, but will use the correct proportions next time.

  7. emmalish, the more pictures the better. How do you feel about the results from your new camera ?

Thanks! I'm very happy with both the new camera and lens. I'll probably be posting photos more often now that I'm still so in love with my new toy that I'm photographing everything in sight.

  8. Watching season 1, it seemed that the chefs were really having fun with the competition and challenges, and enjoyed the opportunity to cook with other "masters". I'm not surprised some of them want to come back.
