Some friends were there a couple of weeks ago, with her parents (we are talking middle age and elder.) There was some concern that everyone would feel like eating after their dinner (too little food?), and that they would think they paid too much. Well, the report was that they all thought it was fabulous. Those not requesting a tasting menu were given some extra courses so as to not feel left out, so they tasted a lot of courses. They did not leave hungry and thought they easily got their money's worth and then some. I didn't get the specifics on what they ate, but they were impressed. In SF, I know they have enjoyed meals at Delfina and Boulevard, and a host of other higher end places.

Okay, I'll bite. If you want to bring a helmet, I have a 19" 12 speed bike with flat tires and a heavy lock. You are welcome to borrow it. Of course, that was sized for a 5'-3" person, and I believe it may be small for you. Or, you can pick up a used bike from the place - in the U-district - near Agua Verde, and resell it to them? Ran across the Almond Joy Chocolate Chocolate - was excited to see a dark chocolate Almond Joy - but was unpleasantly surprised to find the "chocolate flavored" coconut inside. I like the visual contrast between dark chocolate and white coconut and thought the flavoring detracted from the overall flavor. Guess it's back to looking for Bounty Bars, or sticking with almondless Mounds Bars - or getting custom ones from better chocolate shops. What about the new (to me, at least) Jelly Belly brand chocolates? Fun to have M&M type candies that actually have a color / flavor relationship. They were handing out small sample bags onthe street corner last week.

Persimmon is quite kid friendly - I saw they brought out a bag of toys to entertain a couple of them at dinner. The menu doesn't have kid portions, but does have mac n cheese. I'm sure they will accommodate children well.

That was one of my concerns in my original review of the place - not that I wanted the foie gras - but that sometimes the menu has such foods, and sometimes it doesn't.

I was thinking about this today. We have a lot of threads with similar requests and recommendations - quite current. Rather than recite the same list, I'm listing those places that I support regularly with my dollars: Matt's in the Market (Top floor in the building across from the piggy bank and clock in the Pike Place Market.) Excellent specials, wine by the glass, catfish sandwiches...the staff! Market Grill (small grilled fish counter in the heart of the Market.) Troiani Italian Grill - fancy, close to Symphony Hall, interesting option for sit-down lunch as well. Restaurant Zoe - Belltown - I like it and have had consistantly good meals. Dinner only. Cascadia - Belltown - great happy hour - drinks and small bites. Persimmon - Fremont - brunch, lunch - and now dinner. Small neighborhood place. Lark. Read all about it on the thread. Dinner only. Bakeries - Dahlia, Macrina, Essential, Cafe Besalu. Baguette Box - new sandwich place on Capitol Hill. Salumi - of course. Dahlia Lounge and Etta's Seafood - both just a bit more expensive than I would like - but great with guests - and quite reliable. Agua Verde - in the University District - water view, strong drinks, interesting Mex food - not expensive, kayak rentals downstairs. Gelatiamo - downtown - gelato, pastry, and simple sandwiches. Kisaku - sushi in Wallingford. Chiso - sushi in Fremont. PCC - groceries - really, I cook at home too!

I haven't been in two years - used to like their brunch, thought much less of the dinners. Rumored to have quite the late night traffic - drinking and hot bodies.

Need a place for a late lunch/ early happy hour!

Excellent suggestion. Is Agua Verde open at that time? Patio, water view, very different than the evening spots, school's out, so maybe not too busy. paddle over -
Step up to the $1 mini burgers at Cascadia's happy hour. Much better.

Mexican Food ingredients in Seattle

I don't think the place towards the North end makes tortillas though they sell them. Good spot for a cheap lunch to go though. I can't recall who or where - someone was telling about a place up North (Aurora? Shoreline? Lynnwood?) that makes tortillas and more. I looked through a thread or two, to no avail. Author, please chime in! -
The owner/bartender at Ovio Bistro (West Seattle) introduced me to these recently. He used Malibu rum in place of the Coco Lopez. Very nice.

My Troiani certificate lists no restrictions. I've used gift certificates at other restaurants for liquor without any problem. When Cutters sent out free $20 gift cards last year, I expected to pay for my drink - but they applied it to the entire bill. -

Oh yeah, Alaska FF is high nitro - why I commented not to overdue it as you get all plant, less fruit. I guess I usually go for making a healthy plant, and then shock the plants into submission. Somehow, I get great fruit quality and flavor this way. Here's anothr fertilizer idea - and it's down the block from Maritime Ale House. Walt's -
Did not know this - but since I started strength training and running, I have been eating a lot of cottage cheese - Nancy's brand is excellent, by the way - and often add a good dose of cinnamon. Well, this will add to the confusion, but hopefully bring down the LDL, when next tested.

Me neither. Hope you enjoy it. A friend just received a $25 gift certificate from them for her birthday. She didn't even remember signing up for their mailing list. -
Ah, another stop for you this trip. There is a little donut stand in the Market (Pike Place, that is.) They serve fresh fried mini donuts, plain, rolled in sugar, or powdered sugar. That's it. Between the flying fish stand (or the brass piggy bank, Rachel, and the big newstand. Hot and cheap. Tell us how they compare!

Some familiar names, but no details on if there are time or day restrictions. purchase here Also, some info on winning free dinners for two. -
I don't really like doughnuts, but I enjoyed the cinammon one - I think it was raised, not cake. My local affiliate charges $1.00. I think that is the store price as well. It's hard for me to imagine thawed frozen doughnuts are worth it. My coworker who loves doughnuts doesn't even like these from other locations - she says they are only good still warm. She's a maple bar eater. Since they are frosted, I have to wonder if they are actually served warm anyway.

I don't like garage sales. Stopped at one yesterday - they had boxes of Ikea sets of wrapping paper/ribbon/bow/gift cards - $1.00 per set. I bought one (I think all the neighbors did - it would be hilarious to have Christmas on display this year.) Also 4 clear champagne flutes - 40 cents a piece - and a large straight sided pressed glass bowl from France for $3.00. Perfect for fruit salad or tiramisu.

And next door is Tall Grass Bakery. Watch both for weird hours/closed days. Pastry one place, coffee another...not that uncommon. -
SE of Downtown/Edge of International District and First Hill International District Upper Fremont Capitol Hill (yes?) Ballard Downtown all around - the best (?) in the University District though West Seattle looks pretty good and Ballard runs year round Capitol Hill or Belltown That spans a big part of the city. If you have a car - and can score parking (not easy on Capitol Hill - or most places), none of this is more than 20 minutes away from anywhere else (West Seattle pushes that, especially if there is traffic.) Street parking is a big problem in any of these areas, except maybe Ballard. Tighe is right (you can quote that) in suggesting considering other attributes - such as type of housing, noise, freeway access, bus availability (if interested), recreational attributes, shopping...do you want to walk to a movie, run off street, stumble home from the bars? Quality of life - it's a city - you don't have to always rely on a car, if you choose wisely.
