  1. Oh yeah, let's not forget Michael at Cascadia.
  2. heyjude and I wrote about this lack in Seattle and thought it would make a great stand at the Market. No lobster, but the chowder place across from Made In Washington now sells crab rolls - pricey, and I haven't seen one to judge it - or tasted one. Did have a fabulous Maine lobster salad at Lark last weekend...
  3. Derek at Zoe. Misuk at Brasa. I like the idea of the drinks at 727, but never go.
  4. I was looking at my photos last night - a similar picture of the bakery serves to me remind me...
  5. The "chocolat" chest? I was eyeing that last night. What's the story behind it?
  6. Bacco is the street side expansion of the dungeon by the same name - entered from the Inn's courtyard. A nicer space, with a more limited menu. Sidewalk seating as well as interior. Took over the shoe store space that moved to Pine. You'll remember the signs for juices, crab sandwiches...?
  7. I've been on a restaurant spree - familiar and new. The last two bites at Zoe were the best of the bunch - a grilled octopus salad and a flourless chocolate cake. Octopus - one of those things you wonder why we eat - and how it can be so good. The cake - not dense, wonderfully rich, served with balsamic cherries.
  8. He was, and with a couple of kids. I thought that the marriage had fizzled - and hoped maybe they were back together? I didn't see anything obvious in his bio, but here's a place to look: All about Todd
  9. In many cultures, this is just so low class. But I love having leftovers for breakfast. I've already mentioned my peasant stock.
  10. just you, for starters: Crow - Queen Anne Dandelion - Ballard Pair - Ravenna
  11. Yes - Scott suggested just coming in for appetizers when I chatted with him on the street corner.
  12. Well, since you are lukewarm on Troiani, how about Zoe? Marjorie is nice, but can be slow. Brasa? Le Pichet. Campagne. Place Pigalle. Matt's in the Market - give her some attitude!
  13. Union Bay Cafe would also be a good option. The Wellington, too.
  14. If we had any good pizza, I'd be impressed. And no, haven't been to Cafe Lago in ages, or Tutta Bella at all.
  15. How was lunch Laurie A-B (and Matthew)? Did you order the "tasting" menu?
  16. Happy to report that on this past sweltering hot Monday night in August, Brasa was comfortably air conditioned - and though the bar was less than packed, the dining room had a pretty good house. I heard they got slammed Sunday night - with the crew from the Womens Chefs thing at E&O. Stayed open an extra hour even. Hooray! Happy to have someone else cook my dinner - pizza from that wood fired oven. Wish it were more crispy.
  17. The vacated Crystal Meats space has a coming soon sign "Fero's Meats". Stay tuned.
  18. Ballard this time. I heard great things from the paper and in a radio interview on Tom Douglas's radio show. I went for brunch (served Sat and Sun) before heading off to the Ballard Farmers Market. It's a block South of Cafe Besalu. No espresso, so if you want some, get some and bring it in - it's okay with them. They do serve Lighthouse coffee though. Very simple space - lots of yellow. Beautiful plates of omlettes, waffles, french toast, and fruit. A BELT (bacon, egg, lettuce, and tomato.) Also, eggs with chorizo, avocado, and salsa. I had poached eggs with grilled polenta, roasted tomato sauce, and mozzarella, and a hefty portion of Pino's sausage. Didn't need dinner (though I did have fresh corn from Yakima). It was fresh and delicious. I'd return anytime and look forward to trying dinner. Slight spin on the dinner menu - changes weekly. Wine and beer available. Closed on Mondays. Avocado Shake

Same theme - when I lived in Santa Cruz, CA, there was the notorious Capitola Avocado Pie - basically a "key" lime pie with the addition of an avocado. I know I have the recipe at home. These were a huge sale item at the annual Arts and Crafts Fair.
  20. Crow - 823 5th Avenue N, Seattle, WA 98109 206-283-8800 reservations accepted A destination restaurant? Maybe not. A place to eat when attending an event at the Seattle Center? Definitely! Just be sure to give yourself plenty of time as the kitchen isn’t speedy. Crow – at 5th and Aloha (a few blocks North of EMP) is owned by one of the originators of Stumbling Goat, along with a new partner. They took a big brick building and crafted a restaurant and bar for about 120 people. There is a shiny wood bar near the front door with a sparkly glass tile wall and a couple of enormous lights hanging from the ceiling, and another eating bar overlooking the open kitchen. The rest of the room is open with some hand crafted metal railing and dividers, featuring – crows. Lots of hard surfaces – acoustics will need to be addressed – curtains, ceiling tiles, something? Exposed ductwork and conduit. Walls are in shades of green and red/orange – some painted like architectural renditions of Mark Rothko or another abstract expressionist. Warm and inviting in a warehousy way. Even the toilet partitions are custom. The food, if you ate at SG won’t be a surprise – a few starters, mains consisting of chicken, fish, pork, pasta, beef, and veg – topping out at $20, some sides. Everything is fresh, well portioned (slightly large?), not complicated, but lovely. I supped on a big bowl of chilled tomato-mint soup and pork tenderloin served with grilled peaches and black bean salsa – a combination of black beans, hand cut corn, diced tomatoes, some chilies, and ? It was a wonderful combination with a hint of something else – maybe a touch of an exotic oil? Also, a nice list of specialty cocktails – including “Murder of Crows”. The desserts sounded good – too full, didn’t see any served – special crème brulee, chocolate cake with pine nuts and ?, frozen lemon meringue, sorbet… edit - for those needing to know - the wine list exists with a good number of wines by the glass - served in wine glasses, not tumblers. Interesting block – Café Vita, Panos, an interesting bar – Habob?, and most crowded – Sushiland. Ah well.
  21. On Third- between Union and Pike, next to Bruno's Mexican and Italian (has anyone ever gone there?) is a sign for "Harried and Hungry" all day cafe.
  22. My one and only experience - September 11, 2001. Delayed flight (turned into 5 day delay) out of Orange County, CA. Disneyland closed, but the bar at RC was open (South Coast Plaza). The food was forgetable, the drinks, stiff.
  23. Did he ever complete the purchase of Cucina Cucina!? See this link - Cucina Cucina, Washington State, are now owned by the Fuller family - "Joey Tomatoes" out of Vancouver BC, while Cucina Presto! are Puck's. corporate link
