Why on God's earth would some goofball decide to make the dreaded Mountain Doo black? Why? Is this part of this extreme sales pitch where everything has an extreme X on it all the time? Or is it to remind you that if you drink the doo you are hurtling towards the void faster than you think.

Beware of the Dark and Stormy trying to have just one of those is a test of will power especially if you use Barrits and Goslings.

I found some Goya at my local Harris Teeter. You are right it is great and the price is right. Eh Bien

The "Rum Swizzle" was recently brought to my attention as a contender to the Dark and Stormy. I looked into making one of thease drinks and lo and behold there is some crazy ingrediant that is hard to find......Falernum. Does anyone know if this stuff is available and has anyone had any luck with a homemade version.?

Stewart's works well and Goya is fantastic What is Goya?

I have not been able to find it at the Whole Foods here in North Carolina. What state are you in? Are all Ginger Beers as high in sugar as say Barritts which weighs in at 43g per bottle?
-
I would like to try Fentimans but it sounds like it is only available in the UK?

The Rum Swizzle? You can't be serious

I'll give the local beer distributer a go but it seems so far that Stewarts is mostly in New York State. I am in North Carolina. How did it taste? Did you find it to be on the "hot" end of the ginger beer spectrum?

Has anyone ever tried Stewarts Ginger beer. I see it is available from Beverages Direct. I have been buying Barritts but it is a little pricey and I am looking for alternatives. Blenheim has some ginger beer I will try soon but there are not alot of options.

I think the nissan from Campmor is the best bet for being on the road or in my kitchen where I have broken several Bodum glass presses.

Heh that Upton Tea Co looks great, I am interested in trying the imperial blend or the cake form like you have, It sounds richer and darker. The dark earthy qualities are what i like about this tea. Thanx.

What type of rum did gonzo journalist Hunter S Thompson drink when he penned the Rum Diaries?

I buy my Pu-ehr from Harney tea. They do not advertise it in their catalog but they have it. I do not know what type it is but price wise I think it is a middle grade. I like it. The other place I found it was either the Blue Willow tea co or www.Tentea.com

I read somewhere in a book on Chinease Energy medicine that Pu Ehr tea works like grapefruit juice in your system clearing away fats etc. I enjoy this tea as a substitute for coffee . Does anyone know anymore about it? I usally buy a medium grade that my pocketbook can afford. Some of the other grades seem a little pricey.

Thankyou . Have alot to pick from now. Makes me wonder if the sassafrass was the mystery ingrediant that made Hires unique? Some damn white rat probably got cancer from an all sassafrass diet and bingo its history.
-
I remember having some homemade root beer in the early 1970's and Hires extract was used to make it. Can't seem to find it anywhere. Do they still make it?
-
It makes a great Dark and Stormy. While you are in Florence SC buy a ton of the stuff if you like it because the price goes celestial when it ships out of SC

I would also like to add to the Dark and Stormy mixing possibilities , Blenheim Gingerale. This gingerale comes in 3 types reg, no-cal and hot. Used sparingly as an addition to the origonal recipe it can really "wake" it up. Blenheim gingerale comes from a place in South Carolina known to many travellers of I-95 as South of the Border.

I was first introduced to Pimms at large Polo tournament on Long Island NY in the 1980's. At the time I used to mix it with club soda and then splash a half shot of Boodles gin on the top. I have heard of other people using gingerale as a mixer and finishing the drink by putting a spear of cucumber in . I would enjoy hearing anyone elses tales of Pimms, how you like to drink it etc. I love to drink this stuff on a hot lazy day savoring glass after glass without getting nine sheets to the wind.

Interesting story, it reminded me of going to Trader Vic's in New York City in the late 1970's. Those drinks were incredible, absolute heaven with their Pu Pu platter. Mahalo

I have recently been sampling the drink of Bermuda, The Dark and Stormy. I had read about this drink and was after some searching able to locate some Barritts ginger beer to mix with Goslings rum. Several drinks later I hit the web in search of Rum lore and luckily found the treasure trove called the Ministry of Rum. I look forward to learning more at this site ansd maybe finding other drinks that share the magic alchemy found in the Dark and Stormy
