I must agree about Guy Savoy! I compare all the other many starred restaurants with a fantastic experience at Guy Savoy a few years back!! Joan
-
How about the truffle sandwich at Michel Rostang? I was there a few years ago for lunch one day when it had just become available for the season. I found it to be a great lunch. Joan
-
Petit Marquery is often mentioned as a good "game" restaurant. Perhaps a local Parisian will add to this re open Mondays and IF they are now serving game. Enjoy, Joan
-
I have dined at both..but..I think I would go along with the rest and say the Bristol!! You will enjoy whichever one you pick.............

I have done some more reading and have come up with these 3 Mugaritz, Akelare and Berasatequi. Would appreciate more info on all 3. Not even sure where they all are. I did read that Mugaritz was remote and difficult to find?? Where is Berasatequi?? Thanks....

I will actually be staying in a charming hotel in Sare. Give me all your suggestions for the area. I will have been in the Dordogne for 2 weeks prior to this. Flying into Toulouse and then out of Biarritz. Will use the Ideamerge lease vehicle. Really works out well. I shall await suggestions!! Joan

Thanks for the M Sarran info. I will be flying in/out of Toulouse and will probably spend the night before my am flight somewhere near the airport. I could have a nice dinner at M. Sarran...it looks convenient to the airport, too. Any thought from anyone for my overnight near the airport??? Joan

I hope it was understood which post I was responding to, re the Vieux Pont, Belcastel location....sorry for any confusion.. Joan
-
I think you must mean Belcastel for the Vieux Pont?? South of Conques and west of Rodez??
-
best of luck - they are usually booked out shortly after the reservations open in january. I only got in because of a cancellation. Anyway - here's my review click here one the best experiences ever ← I have enjoyed all the posts! I sent them an e-mail this am. I'm a year away for my reservation..I asked when I needed to make it. Will see what kind of response I receive.

I think I was more interested in finding out about the area rather than about Michel Bras!! Not much more needed to know about him. I am making my plans for a year from now..which may not be too soon, as others are having trouble with fall reservations there now.
-
Yes, it would be far from the Alpes Gourdon...I will be in the Lot Valley Gourdon...
-
Has anyone been there lately?? I am thinking of driving and spending the night when I will be spending a couple weeks near Gourdon.

I've had too many breakfasts of mediocre croissants and bad coffee to ever suggest one take breakfast at anything less than a good hotel. The problem with good hotels, and especially with one with a good buffet, is that it's several hours before I'm out on the street seeing Paris and it's hard working up an appetite for lunch, which means I'm then looking for some sort of snack late in the afternoon and ruining my appetite for dinner. A cafe with a good espresso and good croissants near my hotel is always a joy to find quickly. More often than not, my preference is for the bar rather than a table. ← I enjoy Le Meurice..the ambience of the lovely dining room could hardly be better. Your selection choice....enjoy

I recently e-mail Luis Garcia about lunch in October, 2006! I have just received this response: Apreciados Señores, The demand for next year is extraordinary but I regret to inform you that it is impossible for us at this moment to attend reservations for 2006. If you contact us during September you can ask again about 2006 information. I must explain you that normally we will start management at the end of next season 2005, it means on mid October. I must remark that normally we open from April till the end of September and only for dinner service. We thank you for your interest. Atentamente, Luis García

Sorry to read that they don't serve lunch anymore and that they close in mid October...that is probably going to mess me up for dining there. I did read recently of a goo 1 star restaurant no far from there...not the same as dining at el Bulli!!!
-
I will be close enough to have lunch at El Bulli in October, 2006...yes, 2006!! What is the protocol for making reservations..how far in advance will they accept etc??

I have just returned from a month in Spain/Portugal. I rented an apartment in Estepona..this is just west of Marbella. I have read the negatives from othrs about the area...I must agree. It is heavily owned by the British, with english being the primary language and food served locally. The construction in the area is horrible. Can't imagine anyone wanting to be there. Re: food in Paradores. We stayed in Merida, Malaga Golfe and Jaen and Pousadas, Al Portal, Sousel, Crato and Marvao. I would NOT recommend their food..as mentioned breakfast, which is generally included, is fine. I was even disappointed in the Jaen Paradore..having heard of it being magical....It was built in 1977(I think) on a previous convent site. I would consider them to be like places in our national parks. I did find the Portuguese people to be so very friendly and welcoming..much more so than the Spanish...sorry, but the difference was very noticeable.

I faxed La Alcaría de Ramos today for an early 7:30 reservation for our arrival evening on Thursday. I did find out that this restaurant is very close to our rental apartment. This afternoon I received a telephone call, not a fax, confirming our reservation! I was so surprised with the call that I used a combination of English, French and Spanish!!! His English was very good..he must have thought that I was a bit strange.... We are off to Spain tomorrow and have many wonderful places on our schedule in both Spain and in Portugal. The weather has been looking perfect and we are really looking forward to it after all the wonderful things that we have heard about the countries and the people! Will try to post a bit while there...hasta luego!!
-
Pretty places to consider would be Les Ambassadeurs at the Hotel Crillon, Hotel Bristol, Hotel Le Meurice or even the Ritz.......
-
I will make note of this...thanks...
-
Thanks for the info....the La Alcaria de Ramos sounds like just what we are looking for on arrival night. I do have an 2004 Red Guide for Spain/Portugal. It looks like it might be nearby as it mentions El Paraiso and our apartment is near the El Paraiso, in the Les Gardenias complex. I will try for a mappy.... Thanks, for the help...........

We will be arriving in Malaga next week and have rented a lovely apartment just east of Estepona. I would appreciate help with an arrival day suggestion for dining after the long trip over! A nice place not too far away, where we could have an earlyish dinner. Thanks.........

Enjoy the Bistrot du Paradou...yes, there is a rather new sign. I guess some found it difficult to find. It is a rather nondescript building. Have fun, enjoy...........

Thanks for the report!! We do appreciate them all.... Our trip is lining up well. The only thing we haven't put together yet, is a day trip to Tangier. We do enjoy all the input from those who have been...
