Have rented an apartment near Estepona for a month mid Jan-mid Feb. Have some trips planned and would appreciate any advice available. Will be going to Granada..read that it is a gastronomic disaster..so will do tapas and we will be staying at the Jaen Parador..comments about dining there? Then on to Granada..read about El Churrasco being "the" place..what about El Caballo Rojo? Sevilla..will only be there for one night..suggestions? Will then be staying at the Parador in Merida, sightseeing in Caceres and on into Portugal staying at Pousadas in Marvao, Crato, Sousel and on down to El Portel. Any help with whatever along the way would be greatly appreciaated. Thanks, Joan -
I dine at Violon d'Ingres with every trip to Paris. I am also a bug on people dressing "properly", or better put, annoyed with people who do not dress properly for a nice restaurant. A sport coat jacket would be most appropriate..without a tie could be acceptable...a lady should wear a comfortable nice pant and top/jacket ou5fit or a nice dress. Christian and Catherine aare fine people. You will enjoy!!

I have a reservation for October 12. I am looking forward to it. Did you find some other places in the area that you would like to pass on to me. Thanks.....
-
Thank you for the additional places. I will also be going to La Table de Mon Moulin to check out Silva along with some other places on trips to the "hinterland". I had the pleasure of dining in Mougins when Verge was still there. It was a treat. I plan to try Fue Follet in Mougins..it is a favorite of Underhills..we enjoy many of the same places, both for lodging and for dining.

I am broadening my list. Fortunately, for me, I will be able to try more of these places than Jean, as I will be in the area for 10 days! I'm pleased to read the note about taking the local buses and trains as I had been told that it is the way to do it. I have an apartment in Villefranche-sur-Mer and was told to catch the bus very nearby and would be in Vieux Nice in about 15 minutes, via a most scenic route! I did hear that there was some road/tunnel construction near Monaco and the trains might not be that reliable..also that it might be finished by the 1st of October..will see......

I dined on a Sunday evening at the Petit Celadon in the Westminster Hotel. http://www.warwickwestminsteropera.com/ This is a central location, a lovely hotel and it was a pleasant evening. Take a look at the website and the 2 restaurants, Celadon and Petit Celadon (open on Sunday). They have a lovely bar area for after dinner coffee or whatever. This is but one suggestion. You will find the hotels...Bristol, Crillon (Les Ambassadeurs), Meurice etc. will be serving on Sunday..........they all have websites.......

Glad to see your post re L'Ane Rouge. It is on my list for October!!
-
Thnak you for your report. I will be there in early October.

CigaleChanta...we are waiting for your report on your lunch on 8/26!!!

If the Bristol is ONLY 70 euros, I would say to go for it!! When I last had lunch there i spent far more!! It is truly lovely though..............

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with bad thoughts of Helene Darroze!! I just did not find anything that I liked about my experience.............

In response to the earlier post of a "bad" experience at Violon d'Ingres...Personally, I have never had a bad experience there, and I have probably been there at least a dozen times..but it can happen....my most surprising "off" experience was at Taillevent one evening. We had ordered a 2nd very nice bottle of wine..and waited and waited and waited..had to ask again!! That would not keep me from returning to Taillevent! I think my most memorable 3* was a particular evening at Guy Savoy. Everything was perfect, in every way that evening.....dining at the starred restaurants should not be missed, but it might take an educated palate for the most appreciation....it is certainly not just for a fancy dessert! There can be many surprises..some at the least expected places.............

It may be easier for lunch at l'Astrance..perhaps someone else will answer that question!! When you write to Catherine, please tell her that I told you too..my name is Joan Grace. She will take very good care of you!! Ask her which days she is there for lunch..as it is not every day..and go on a day when she is there..if you decide to go there. It was a huge tray of croissants at the Meurice!! It really is a very pretty dining room..not sure which is lovlier Les Ambassadeurs or Le Meurice!! One chilly morning in December I stopped in at the Ritz for a cup of coffee and to warm up. It hit the spot!! Stop by the Hotel Bristol..they have a nice gift shop. It is a very pretty place.

Suggestions: Why don't you drop a note to Catherine Constant Violondingres@wanadoo.fr Ask her whatever you need to ask. l'Astrance may or may not be a problem as to a reservation..it has been that you MUST call exactly 1 month in advance!! If convenient to where you are staying, try the Meurice for breakfast. It is in the very, very lovely main dining room...lunch is not! I am a light breakfast eater and croissants and coffee is fine for me....they brought a huge tray of them, along with the coffee..only 10 euros!! They have a breakfast bar with all the other items too..

Forgot...Violon may be closed..you better check on that ..they usually head south in August ....
-
I would email for a reservation at Violon d'Ingres now, or ask your hotel to make the reservation for you..either way. If you are asking your hotel to do it, you might as well ask them to make the Bookinistes too......
-
Since we are tossing is some othrs..I will add to it...Les Ambassadeurs is great for lunch, or dinner, The Hotel Bristol is a lovely spot for lunch and the Meurice is pleasant..and the Ritz is a good stop!!

Yes, l'Astrance does have a baragain lunch now. I have only had dinner there. It is an interesting place..and with most certain popularity!!
