  1. I asked the Concierge to see about a reservation for me in early February. He has responded that he was told that they do not take reservations in advance, to call the day that you want the reservation to see if they have space!! My responses was to forget the restaurant! There are far too many great restaurants in Paris where reservations can be made in advance. I will send my list after the holidays.
  2. I have only dined at Taillevent for dinner. It was excellent. I will be having lunch there in February. It is a special place! Joan
  3. That's probably more what I am looking for. That is probably the way I will go, unless I hear enough from others to change. Thanks, Joan
  4. I know Senderens is now "more casual" than it was with the stars. I appreicate the input before making the final decision. Thanks, Joan
  5. Well, is cost a factor? I'm away from my data base but I think db's "menu" is only at lunch but Senderens prices are the same all day, non?
  6. Please help me with this decision for my trip in early February. I will be dining at both Senderens and Dominique..one for lunch and one for dinner. Not the same day! I need help in deciding which one for which meal!! Thanks, Joan
  7. Doubt that I will fit in as being one of those "beautiful women with impeccable figures"..I will enjoy thought............. Joan
  8. Thanks for this review! I will be in Paris in early Feb..have been gathering information on spots to dine this trip. I have previously enjoyed dinner at Guy Savoy. I think I will give Le Stresa a try. I will put my reservation request in the hands of my concierge at the Westminster and see what happens. Thanks again, Joan
  9. Dome would probably be out for you because of the above. Joan
  10. I don't remember reading any comments about l'Obelisque. Any comments? Joan
  11. I keep picking up bits of information for my early February trip to Paris. I think I will try to finalize my reservations the first of January. I earlier told Catherine Constant I would e-mail her and I will then let the Westminster Concierge do the others for me. I keep reading all this great information that you supply!! Joan
  12. Thanks for the Spring pictures. I am adding Spring to my February list! Joan

    February trip

I will dine at the Celadon for my arrival night..just for the convenience...I have made a list of breakfast places for some morning variety that are in the area. For restaurants I have taken from recent lists and from good friend, Laidback ,who has just returned. So far this is what I am looking at: Le Comptoir Les Papilles La Ferrandaise Aux Lyonnais Maison du Jardin Dominique Bouquet Violon d'Ingres (always, good friends) No biggies on my list this time...I have done many of them previously. A mixture of the above for lunch or dinner. I am open for suggestions, additions and deletions. Joan Grace ← That's pretty close to my list except I'd do Ze rather than Comptoir but that's me. ← Just what I am looking for..refine the list for the limited time that I have. Thanks...

  18. I will be in Paris from 2/05 - 2/11, staying at the Westminster. They have some good winter promotions, and I was quite surprised with Delta's fares! A good way to break the winter! I have been away from Paris for several years with my wanderings all over other areas of France. I find that I am really looking forward to getting back to Paris!! I will also finally get to see Monet's Water Lilies with the Orangerie now being open. That will certainly be a must do for me. I have been reading about all the many, many new restaurants. My list is growing with all the recent presentations. I will have to do some trimming before making final decisions. That won't be easy! Thanks, as always for all the input..................
  19. For me, I wouldn't go to Paris without an evening at Violon. Catherine and Christian are two of my favorite people!! Their new places are also very popular. I usually have the tasting menu along with an accompanying tasting wine menu! I will leaving for France the first of the week myself...I will only be connecting in Paris for flights... You will have a wonderful experience with the Constants!!
  20. Too bad that you did not try for reservations at l'Atelier in Arles...you would be raving about it...as everyone seems to be!!
  21. Jim, Interesting information..and somewhat comical!! Maybe our cereals are the new IN thing!! Joan
  22. I missed answering some questions...reservations..at starred restaurants make them early..many have websites that you can use for your reservations. you can also e-mail your hotel and give them a list of where you would like reservations. Turning Tables..no, no words at starred restaurants. The table is yours for the evening. I have observed someone being lucky when dropping by, hoping for a table, to find that an early diner may have departed and they can give the drop in a table.
  23. The starrred restaurants that I mentioned were for dinner. I have been to the Bristol for lunch. Re wine pairing: At Violon d'Ingres I have had a wine tasting along with the tasting menu. It is a fun thing to do..better take a taxi back to your hotel...I'm sure others do the same. but re by the glass..the answeer is yes. Re: dress code. You will hear many opinions on the subject. I personally think that a gentleman should wear a coat. A good looking blazer and open collar shirt is fine. I only mentioned starred restaurants above. I certainly eat at many non-starred restaurants with great pleasure. New ones keep popping up..with great reviews...give them a try. Enjoy........... Joan
  24. I travel to Paris often..alone. I have dined at some of the top, Guy Savoy, l'Astrance, Les Ambassadeurs, The Bristol and always at Les Violon d'ngres..never had a problem. Make your reservations and enjoy!! Joan
  25. I, too, am surprised. I found Le Bristol service to only be excelled by the lovliness of the place!! Perhaps, as mentioned, some may have been the cultural difference. Joan
