Here's a mac and cheese Rachel made for lunch today:

I just got my Imperial Red grapefruit from Hale Groves yesterday -- really high quality fruit, website was very easy to use, shipping and prices were reasonable.
-
Its also across the street from Seafood Gourmet and next to the Moon Doggies which is a local coffee roaster. So if you are going to dinner or lunch at Seafood Gourmet, its something to do afterwards.

And just up the block from that place is Gary Danko, one of the better fine dining establishments in the city.

Do you have an address or URL? I google "King of Thai" "San Francisco" but there are several seemingly different places. B ← They have multiple locations.
-
Actually, the fast food style Thai place across the street from Moscone West is actually pretty good if you need to go out for lunch during the show, but my geek friends swear by King of Thai. For chinatown eats I would add my recs to R&G as well as Brandy Ho's. For really interesting bar food/small plates and incredible cocktails check out Cortez in the Hotel Adagio. If you dont mind taking a bit of a cab ride back and forth to your hotel in the evening, check out Incanto for amazing Italian.

It will be great to see you again, Jo! Is there any particular dish on the menu you are especially looking forward to?

Anything like Saint's Alp Teahouse but in North NJ

I think there is a bubble tea place in Edgewater somewhere. I think you can get them at Mitsuwa as well. -

Hypothetical question about 10 "top shelf" rums
Jason Perlow replied to a topic in Spirits & Cocktails
I wouldnt put Pyrat Cask 23 on that list. Its pointless at that price when the Pyrat XO is just as good. Some of the best rums in my collection: Appleton 21, But Appleton Extra is almost as nice for less than half the price Ron Zacapa El Dorado 15 or 25 Rhum St James Mt. Gay Extra Old Barbancourt 15 Port Morant Blackbeard Reserve Flor de Cana Centenario Santa Teresa 1796 Neisson XO (but I think its unobtanium now, the Reserve Speciale is what is currently on the market and is also very good) J. Bally Cruzan Single Barrel Estate Pusser's (The special bottling in the admiral nelson / navy flagon) Inner Circle La Favorite Agricole Vieux -
Anyone want to attempt to translate this to English? I think making homemade Tonkotsu broth is a worthy endeavor, if we can get a procedure locked down.
-
My understanding is that Seafood Gourmet's dining room is opening this weekend -- keep in mind they are closed Sundays, but they should be open Saturday night.
-
My reccomendation is anyone on the fence about trying this place should go now, before it becomes very difficult to get a reservation.

Thanks for letting us know Roz. As we've already had this discussion, I'm closing this one down, guys and gals.

Interesting, I've spoken to others who claim it to be from Nagata, but then again the two cities arent too far from each other. I've also heard Kyushu, where Fukuoka is. It doesn't really matter though, because its eaten throughout Japan in the major cities, including Tokyo, is it not?

I wonder if This Recipe from Lasyone's Meat Pie Kitchen is the same one?
-
Somewhat related, does anyone have a good recipe for Natchitoches Meat Pies?
-
Lalagniappe.com apparently will ship Hubigs, but they will only ship large orders. I just sent them email asking what their minimum order is, I think it may be as low as a few dozen. http://www.lalagniappe.com/hubigs_pies.htm EDIT: Crossposted with Ktepi.

Gratuitous Hubig Porn from my June, 2005 trip to New Orleans: Hubig Pies. Made with seasonal Louisiana produce, the crust on these fried pies are amazing, because they are made with beef tallow. They are also not preserved like other fried pies on the market, like Hostess, so they have a limited shelf life of about a week. Hubig Pie Closeup. Closeup of the ingredients list.

Onigiri, as I understand, Tonkotsu (spelled that way, as opposed to Tonkatsu, which is a type of fried pork cutlet) broth is a very labor intensive broth to make, as it requires simmering pork bones overnight for like 8-12 hours. Its a white, silky broth with a very strong savory pork flavor, very different from other types of broth used for Ramen soups.
