  1. For Turkish and other middle eastern stuff there are a LOT of options in the Bergen county area. Actual Persian however is few and far between.
  2. They're both very good. Try both. It sounds like Noodle Chu may be closer to you, though.
  3. There's at least 1 or 2 persian restaurants in Edgewater. I haven't tried any, though.
  4. Staying away from the strictly religious aspects of this thing, because I am sure it could be applied to Vegetarianism and other restricted diets of choice as well, I have a problem with parents imposing these kinds of dietary rules on their children, unless if they were born into it and it was integral to their culture, which would be a completely different circumstance. Assuming these kids were pre-teen or older, you can't successfully force kids to adhere to you or your spouse's choice of diet, be they religious, political or even health motivated.
  5. Now that was a good burger! I cried when it disappeared. It was a packaging disaster, but conceptually I liked the idea of last second assemblage of the lettuce and tomato by the end-user. In execution at most McDonalds it sucked because the "cool" side would heat up under the heat lamps while the burgers were being put out for purchase. However a FRESH specimen was really, really good. Here's some fan sites: http://www.bertlesman.com/McDLT.html http://www.eyrie.org/~frobozz/review/fmmcdlt.html
  6. Ok, if we're gonna include fast food sandwiches that you can only get with a time machine, then I have to say 1) Original Burger King chicken sandwich, circa 1980 or so 2) Roy Rogers double R, gotta agree with that one 3) The Mcdonalds ill-fated McDLT 4) Any Wendys burger, prior to 1990
  7. Yeah, I like that one too. The greasyness of the shortening in those biscuits are great.
  8. Mass Market: 1) Quarter Pounder With Cheese 2) Regular Whopper (off the broiler, hold the mayo) 3) Sausage McMuffin with Egg Small to Medium Chain: 1) Chick-Fil-A sandwich 2) Nathan's Hamburger 3) White Castles Local 1) White Manna, Hackensack NJ
  9. In Greece and Turkey, "Greek Salad" is simply just "salad" or sometimes "Shepherd Salad" or "Koban Salatsi" (in Turkey). In Jamaica, Jamaican Patties are just called "Patties". In Switzerland, Swiss Cheese is simply referred to by the actual region like "Emmenthal" (with means Emme Valley, where the stuff is produced). Emmenthal of course is the "swiss cheese" with the signature holes, but of course you also got cheeses like Gruyere which are distinctively Swiss as well.
  10. Kris, whats your procedure for making the Pajon? That looks really good.
  11. http://www.wineaccess.com/store/chelseawin...uct_id=10585816 The 2001 Clos Mogador goes for $69.99, dios mio. http://www.winecask.com/winestore/detail.cfm?sku=17628 the 2000 Erasmus is going for $115.00 (cough!) http://www.klwines.com/product.asp?sku=1005976 The L'Ermita 2001 Priorat is listed here at $349 (gack!) Here's a "mas barato" wine that is made from grapes that didnt make it in to the L'Ermita. Have you tried it? http://www.wineaccess.com/store/winehouse/...uct_id=10587623
  12. What kinds of food would you pair with these three? Do you have approximate euro pricing on these so we can have an idea of what these might cost in the States?
  13. Lauren, this is obviously EXTRA reason for you to bring a Durian pie.
  14. Damn, and I was gonna wow the crowds with my Durian Meringue pie (Tony Bourdain might show up, ya never know...) I'll eat the Durian pie if you bring it.
  15. Victor, have you tried any of those Priorats?
  16. I'll have to try that Fino they mention. Thats the only Sherry on that list though, correct? 3 Priorats and 4 Riojas. I guess you could say Priorat has come of age.
  17. http://www.lpb.org/programs/lucy/ http://www.mslucy.com Has anyone seen this show? Its a riot. Its put together by the Louisiana Seafood Promotion Board, the Louisiana Department of Economic Development and Lucy Zaunbrecher, a Cajun grandmother who speaks to the audience like she's talking to developmentally challenged children. Seriously, I'm watching this thing and its like she's the visiting chef on Mr. Rogers Neighborhood and she speaks ... really ... slow and she interacts with her pre-teen grandaughter like she's mentally retarded or as if this was produced for a 5 year old demographic or Forrest Gump. The feature recipe on the episode I just saw was "Cajun Tator Tot Casserole" which was essentially trinity sauteed in 2 sticks of butter, a whole chopped kielbasa, 2 cans of mushroom soup and like a pound of grated cheddar cheese all glopped into a saute pan, mixed up for a bit and cooked until the cheese melted and then poured over a casserole dish layered with frozen tater tots and then baked. Sick. Although come to think of it, i'd probably like it a lot.
  18. Rachel and I made a short trip to the Arthur Avenue retail market today and we made these sandwiches for dinner when we got home: Da Bronx meets the French Quarter: Muffaletta A La Viale Del Arturo: All of the salumi is from Mike's Deli: Bresaola (cured thin sliced filet mignon), Alpino Salumeo, Prosciuttini, Prosciutto Affumicato (Speck), shaved aged San Michele provolone. I topped this with Central Grocery Olive Salad from New Orleans sandwiched between a wedge of round loaf from Madonia Bakery.

  20. Yeah, I'm thinking other types of Spumante. I did have a rose cava as recently as 2 weeks ago but I totally forgot what producer it was. It had an insanely red color to it though. Quite drinkable.
  21. I fully admit to liking this stuff, and I find that they are highly underappreciated as serious wines. Current Favorites: Egly Ouriet Ambonnay Rose ($40, but hard to find) Argyle Rose (hard to find but well worth it at about $30 a bottle) Dom Perignon Rose vintage (very expensive but I feel its actually their best wine if you're going to drop $200 or more on a bottle) Any rose Cavas or Proseccos or Cremants of note?
  22. Seriously, the modern bagel has almost completely lost its hole. Its now like a navel, or a rectum.
  23. Aright Irwin, no need to keep us in suspense.
