  2. Ciao, Down south - on the 101 you can always stop in Santa Barbara - they have a pretty happening wine scene going on and there are a few tasting spots in town. About 10 minutes south of Santa Barbara is Montecito - another small town that is quite famous with the more elite of people. I used to work the line at The San Ysidro Ranch - that would be a great place to stop and get a bite to eat in the early evening. They have a 'Pub' where you can get some pretty good food at an OK price - scenery is awesome and feel free to walk around the property...it is really nice! North of Santa Barbara about 45 minutes is a small Dutch or Scandinavian town that is ALL TOURISTY but is cool to see - I forgot the name of it but it is off the 101 and about a 15 minute drive - I think the Michael Jackson "RANCH" is out that way too!!! I think it is a good idea to stay out of LA - not much there!!! A cool place to eat in SF is The Slanted Door - look it up - it is a really fun place with AWESOME food! Ciao, Ore
  3. Hmmm...the cork story is interesting. Do most of your recipes for cooking octopus require some type of ACID?? I know that whenever I cook octopus I always add some wine or vinegar - and I always add a cork - Possibly with the same connection as the acid - the water leeches out the acid from the cork that the wine left in the cork - both white or red. Who knows?!? Ore
  4. One of my fav. foods...Gelato!!! Well - Just earlier today I enjoyed 2 cones at Italy's ranked 13th gelateria...Bar Trieste in Jesi (AN). The owner is a certified Italian sommelier and makes all of his gelatos from scratch - using all natural ingredients + all the ingredients are listed with the appropriate flavor. I suppose the major diff. between the 2 is that Gelato is almost always with the presence of eggs - mostly yolks - it is richer, smoother than ice cream - and the freezers are diff. I cant pinpoint it yet but a few more months in Italy and I should know the exact diff.!!! Ciao

    Wild Rice Help

I hope the meal was great - just wanted to add that as above mentioned - it is really a type of seed rather than a type of rice. Ciao!
  7. Come on...there are so many more... "...I like my sugar with coffee and cream" & "If you try to knock me you'll get rocked, I'll stir fry you in my WOK" Peace, Ore

  9. Ciao, My name is Ore and I am really exited to see a link so close to my new home. I am now living in a small city called Jesi, about 26 km from Ancona. I am here for the SOLE purpose of FOOD as I am enrolled in the Slow Food Master Italian Cooking Program - Ital.Cook. The program will be over in the middle of August and afterwards I plan on doing a stage at a restaurant in Italy. I really hope to get in to Le Calandre in the Veneto but I am really glad to see such great restaurants in my near vicinity! Only if I had a way to get to them all - walking isn't really an option! If anyone is in the area and looking for a dining partner - write to me!!! Also, if you can recommend some nice restaurants you think would be a great place to stage - please list those too! Thanks!! Ore
