https://forums.egullet.org/topic/156030-dinner-2018-part-1/?page=141&tab=comments#comment-2163242 It was quite famous in the area for years. The mother of the guy who opened the pizza place next to the brewery worked there for over 20 years. Hughies was in the same neighborhood and was closed by the same controversial eminent domain land dispute documented in a recent movie called 'The Little Pink House'. HC

My version of a local legend, the Hughie's Love Salad, more garlic roasted mushrooms, local corn and garlic bread. HC
  4. We are leaving for Italy in a few days and I have made all the sauce I have time for. Deb will be bringing a big bag of tomatoes into work for a giveaway on Friday. In a way, I am fortunate, as it was an early year for us, tomato wise. I was hard pressed to find any green tomatoes for dinner last night. HC

It is interesting, because in some cases, like the beer selection, they just seem to have added more stock. There is definitely a greater selection of breads, rolls, cakes and the like. There is a new section of fresh fish that was never there before. More cheeses and specialty cheese (I tried a new truffle cheddar, I'd never seen before). I also noticed more brand names here and there. HC

Thursday was the grand reopening. If I had known it was going to be so well attended, I probably would have waited a few days, but I was already there. You can kind of see from the color of the bricks, the extent of the new addition. It really doesn't look like much of an expansion, but seems quite a bit bigger inside. Because of the turnout and the fact that the store has been totally rearranged from a layout standpoint, it was a nightmare to try and navigate. I grabbed the things I have gone without and beat feet. I went back yesterday to try and get a few pictures. There was a surprising turnout and a kind of humorous ribbon cutting ceremony. To their credit, they came out and handed out these gift cards to everyone in line. If I had to put a label on it, I would say that the emphasis seemed to be on more fresh produce. Before they closed, the fresh eggs were 43 cents a dozen. I have grown addicted to this Tuscan bread. I bring it home and put it in the freezer. It makes great sandwiches and bruschetta. My ten year old cell phone sometimes does not take great photos. HC

Given the choice, I'd like to try some more creative things with lobster as well, but just plain old boiled lobster, the right tools and some melted butter makes Deb a very happy camper. So I don't mess with success. HC

Normally, we may have lobster once or maybe twice a year, but they keep going on sale and I keep bringing them home. HC
  18. I tried my hand for the first time at getting steamer clams yesterday, digging like I have seen others do, along the waters edge at low tide. After spending an hour and a half and only finding 8 legal steamer clams, I put them back and headed in. I had a brief discussion with the game warden who checked my permit. He told me that the area where I was digging has been pretty well picked over and that using a small boat or canoe, would open up many more productive areas and would greatly improve my chances of getting the daily quota. I spent the remainder of the day checking local prices and looking online and found this kayak at a very good, marked down price. I want to give it another go soon, and have hopes for better luck HC
  19. Lobsters are on sale again this week, so dinner plans are made. My favorite sushi place is right next door.......I think you can see where I am going with this. HC

    Dinner 2018

After weeks of being closed, due to heavy rain, the clam beds finally opened again and I was right there to bring in the gold. Linguine with white clam sauce was my reward last night. HC
