  1. can anyone out there tell me if fleur de sel and sea salt are the same? if not what is the diff, and for a newbie buyer should i go for fine or course sea salt and where does kosher fit into the mix?
  2. les amis moved a little while ago to west 2nd just east of burrard
  3. i also like tosi's as a store but will never ever spend my money in there again as the doufus with the touque(toufus?) insinuated that i was trying to scam him when i bought noty one but two bottles of olive oil off him that tasted like green apples if you can believe it, both times he agreed that it was off and both times all i wanted was to exchange it for another bottle(not even my $ back), he then accused me of spiking the bottle with something, then when i thought about it i remember him telling me that that oil was unfiltered which was absolute bullshit,l i even asked him again about it and he again lied , so they get the big lifetime boycott from this cowboy, shame it is a cool little shop with decent selection
  4. col thing about that market and others in that area is that they are actually fijian east indian
  5. i think its more of a $ slice now, pretty decent za though
  6. last i heard big al joined forces with an indo guy in a place called tom and gerry's(not kidding, ugh!) was supposed to be some sort of fusion deal
  7. tacos mexico sabroso on 400 block w. hastings very close to mouse and bean is a place a co-worker raves about, delicious tacos very authentic and very cheap, mexican cooks as well so
  8. caffe artigiano, simply the very best
  9. whats so seedy about the place? the area, well then surely pink pearl would be equally guilty. the decor ? no more grungy than many a fine resto in chinatown, even when you consider both it ain't much different from a whole-in-wall place on the drive where it might be considered an alluring feature
  10. i'm too lazy to have a really close look, but in case no-one else has mentioned it the broadway location closed down about 2 years ago, so i would say that would make the chinatown location the preferred one
  11. took the old fashioned trolley car out to g.i yesterday and went and had a look at the progress of fish.patio looks complete , looks like its just about that time
  12. went by lift and go fish the other day, lift still looks far from ready but at least the army of workers were in evidence and as for go fish the floor has been set down and they are waiting for the rest to arrive from alberta and are shooting for an end of august opening and word is they are hoping to obtain a liqour license, yeeha!
  13. ya when i posted i was just going by what the building dirctory said , it says suite 500 and something so i figured that meant 5th floor but a day or 2 later i went by and realized the building doesn't even have 5 floors
  14. agree with jaime on the seasonally-challenged locations but it does appear that perhaps go fish will have the luxury of closing for the off-season if business doesn't warrant it being open whereas lift won't have that option and then as far as chambar i think that will be a challenging location all year round, both the street location as well as being on the 5th floor
  15. while i'm for sure no expert on the construction industry, i passed by the future location of "lift" and having read the sign saying it was scheduled to open this month i had to shake my head at the skull of a building that was in front of me,but on the positive that location is so unbelievable that i can't wait to see what emerges from there, i'll be eagerly awaiting the chance to dine and drink on that patio in what will be the opening up of the next up- and -coming place to be developed in van to dine for spectacular views
  16. maybe the best comeback in history next to lance armstrong, but went by dosa hut today and was biz as usual, said to the owner that i was very surprised that after a month or so of being closed they had re-opened, he told me that it was more like 2 months or something , go figure, glad to see it though, love the dosas!
  17. might have been avery's or somethingthat is the couple who still run it
  18. i know you can buy them at the steamworks wine store as well as other private stores one in kits as well, but they are not in prov stores as of yet, pretty sure they have a web-site listing all restaurants and stores where they can be found
  19. has anyone tried these so they can say whether these are good wines or just novelty bc plonk crap
  20. while seattle is a nice enough place with some good food to be had , its just not even in the same league as van , but i guess thats just the way in the world of corporate america, its all about hyping the biggest money-maker, not necessarily the most relevant players
  21. theres always the witch burger(?)served at the witch of endor pub in maple ridge, its absolutely massive, so big in fact that if you can eat the whole thing within an hour i believe, then you get it for free and don't have to pay the $30 they charge for it , last i heard no-one had been up to the task
  22. well folks much to my chagrin looks like that tibetan place on w. broadway is now history before i had a chance to even try it, i think maybe its uniqueness was both its biggest strength and worst enemy , so did any of manage to try it , if so how was it?
  23. have heard nothing but good of kashcool, 222 pemberton n. van
  24. also agree with all said about the naam went once and have never been back service was unbelievably bad( thought it was an act or something) had to get up grab coffee pot from waitress station and pour our own coffee and then when it came to paying the bill we basically had to all get up head to the door like we were gonna pull a dine-and-dash to get the bonehead waitress to give us the tally, worst service i've ever had and this was just after i'd got back from india, nepal and s.e asia!!
