  1. The pancakes at this place are particularly good.
  2. Is this joint still open? I've been meaning to check it out for a couple of years now.
  3. I had the softshell crab sandwich at RFD a few weeks ago. It sucked. Bad.
  4. With customer service like this, I can't imagine they will be around for long. All it takes is one call to the Health Department by a disgruntled customer.
  5. McDonalds is a chain. McDowells isn't. They got the Golden Arches, we got the Golden Arcs. They got the Big Mac, we got the Big Mick.
  6. Burr grinders produce a more consistent grind than blade grinders, and are easier to use. While most burr grinders are much more expensive than blade models, I've found this $30 model by Melitta to do the job just fine: https://www.melitta.com/cgi-bin/SGSH0101.EX...&UID=!+USID!
  7. This is quite unfortunate. Do you know to whom she has sold her goats? They must surely be saddened by this turn of events as well. Perhaps Ms. Eastham's legacy will live on, in a different location. I am sure that she loved her goats.
  8. Perhaps they would have to shift their focus to smokeless tobacco. Unless there is a ban on smokeless tobacco in bars and restaurants.
  9. I am a smoker and while I enjoy smoking a zillion cigarettes every night in various bars and restaurants in Washington D.C., it wouldn't bother me too much if a full ban on smoking were enacted. I would only hope that the various establishments that attract smokers might have the insight to provide an adequate number of ashtrays around entrances. Otherwise, a smoking ban might cause quite a litter problem. Of course if the smoking ban is an issue to any of you, just take your business next door to Virginia, which is a tobacco state that will likely never ban smoking. I think that you can smoke in public schools there, even.
  10. Red Maple is good, but be prepared to spend $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ if you have an appetite and weigh more than 90 pounds. The decor is so gorgeous that you will want to lick the walls for dessert
  11. Yes, tonic is very good. The cheesesteak is exceptionally tasty. More restaurants should serve tater tots to adults.
  12. Mr. Gerbik's Pizza, which was a Georgetown staple for years, had the finest low cost pizza around. A large pie was only $5. And I never ended up with food poisoning after enjoying a slice, EVER!
  13. I feel that the place is too small to have a sign. If it were more heavily publicized, it would make it so difficult to find a decent table or a seat at the bar, that it might not be worth visiting anymore. Cooking is an art form.
  14. While I do not proclaim to be an expert on the substance, it is my understanding that the distinct bitter flavor comes from the chinotto extract. Chinotto is a citrus fruit. As bitter as the soda tastes, I can't imagine biting into one of those things without suffering a gruesome fate.
  15. I can whole-heartedly understand the concerns of restaurant owners. Opening your dining establishment to dogs amounts to opening a proverbial Pandora's Box. Next thing you know, patrons will be demanding equal space for their pet tarantulas, pythons, cats, piranhas, and rabbits. And at some point, the lines between what is pet and what is food become blurred, and mayhem ensues.
  16. http://www.usbeerdrinkingteam.com/ These guys do a show called BeerRadio on the FM talk station in Baltimore, but it's on at 11am Saturday mornings, of all times.
  17. I must vote for Anchor Steam.

    Budweiser Budvar

Czechvar is good stuff. I hope that it is properly marketed and distribution expanded.
  19. I would love to reveal what I like to do with it, but frankly, I am uncomfortable discussing it in a public forum I enjoy it straight out of the bottle, with a spoon.
  20. I love ramps. When they are in season, you can drive down the highway in parts of West Virginia and smell their sweet aroma wafting from the forests.
  21. Old Dominion Brewing Company in Virginia produces a pretty good root beer, and they also make ginger ale, although I have yet to try it. The root beer is available on tap in many area restaurants and bars.
  22. Does anyone out there love this stuff, other than me? For those of you who haven't tasted it, it's a very bitter citrus soda.
  23. I liked the Tropical flavor much more than Berryclear.
