This weekend would be a great time ... they're hosting their Grand Opening! Details in the claendar HERE A.

Not so much dinner, as prep for dinner ... Friends of ours just returned from a business trip to Montreal with 12lbs of brisket from Schwartz's ... 4lbs for us!! I don't know why this stuff is so frickin' good, but even before it's been steamed it smells terrific. 4 lbs is too much for a single sitting, even for me We cut it up into 1lb sections ... just enough for 2 nice sandwiches (or 1 spectacular one!) No pictures of the sandwich this time. We were too busy eating and licking the fat from our fingers. A.

[host] For furture reference, feel free to start a new topic. The DOV threads are really particular to DOV experiences which, as we have noted in other threads, is often completely different to experiences had the remainder of the year. However, as Mosaic is not likely to start a huge amount of discussion, starting a separate thread doesn't make a lot of sense. As you were [/host] I'll second canucklehead's comments on the chocolate cake which BCinBC was kind enough to share with us after lunch Wednesday. I had one piece after lunch, and the other for dinner. Rich, moist, and capable of creating a sugar rush so high, the crash had me as close to a sugar-induced coma as I have ever been. Glad to see your man enough to use the words "madelines" and "friggin" in the same sentence! A.

Thanks for that Ducky ... I was going to say the same thing about Nick's, but I didn't want a repeat of last time [CLICK]. The whole sorted incident resulted from a satisfyingly cheesy experience at Osteria Napoli Ristorante on Renfrew @ 1st. Good luck! A.

That's been my favorite part of the show so far ... the way Ramsey deals with the customers. I EXPECT him to go ape on the contestants ... but the customers? Now that's funny! My favorite was when he told one of the four blondes in the first episode to "go get some more plastic surgery." Brilliant! A.

Our own Eric Pateman is hosting his own tour of the Richmond Night Market. Details HERE A.

As a kid, no trip to Kelowna was complete without a trip to Illichman's Deli. Don't know the address but I could find the place in my sleep! Cold-cuts and kaiser buns were piled into the Coleman cooler for the long drive home over the Hope-Princeton. There was another stop we made every trip ... and that was at the fruit stand just outside Keremeos that had the big bear as their "logo". Anyone remember the name? Cuz' I don't ... Parson's or something like that. Stocked up there with tomatoes and pickling cukes. I fear both places are mere shadows of their former selves ... but worth revisiting if for nothing else but their kitch factor. A.

We need to keep this discussion focussed on wine-cellar suppliers for Western Canada, or in particular, Vancouver. General wine-storage discussion belongs over in the Wine forum CLICK HERE Some threads found on cellars: What do you use to cellar wine? Small Wine Storage Unit Cellar Questions Cooling unit for a wine cellar A.

I agree 100% with the humidity issue ... which is one of the reasons the Sub Zero unit is a standout. I'm not going to stand here and defend its price tage ... which is truly outrageous ... but it's one of the very few residential units that delivers the whole package. [shameless plug]For storage (shelves, etc) you can always call me.[/shameless plug] But I'll be honest ... custom units aren't cheap. The folks at Vin de Garde Cellar Systrems have a nice looking product, at it's made in modules, which keeps the price down. A.

As a Norwegian, I don't often acknowledge the Swedes have offered anything worthwhile to the world. This may change all that. Okay Lee ... I think the guys need to do this one justice. I'm thinking a ham-cake, a giant lobster and a keg of GI Kitsilano Maple Cream Ale. A.
-
Yes Brian ... way too damn chatty! Never darken these forum doors again! But I agree with you 100%. Great stuff ... I wonder if a lobster bake is due Although, I'm more of a crab person. After all, didn't this thread start out being about crabs?? Talk about being OT! A.

Care to elaborate Sam? The Trout Lake Market is open Saturdays from 9am until 2pm. The Market at Nat Bailey Stadium (parking lot) opens on June 15 and runs from 1pm to 6:30-pm. The West End Market (Nelson Park) starts on June 18 and runs Saturdays only. We've been to the Trout Lake Market twice this year. So far it's a bit early for the produce ... although Heimat Farms had shiso plants last weekend! Strawberries were available last weekend as well ... tasted good but you can see where this is going to be a short season this year. Too much rain I suppose ... the berries were a bit soft and bloated. We bought a couple loaves of bread from Brothaus Bakery, as well as English Peas for a risotto we had on Saturday. Like I said, produce pickin's are slim right now. Still too many craft-people IMO. Cheese vendors like McLennan and Moonstruck are back ... as is Kelly from Bad Girl Chocolates! How about some of the other markets? Coquitlam? Mission? Gotta be something near Chilliwack! Let's hear about them! A.

I don't understand this ... why can't you say if it was good? Did you like the pie? If so, it was good I like Savary Island except for its layout. When it's busy, there's really nowhere to stand while you're waiting. But the pie is worth the wait IMO. I just hate being in the way ... A.

You need my help Lee. Both with your kitchen, and to "look after" that lobster!! A.

I'm having a Opera, and "J" has a Manhattan. Happy Friday! A.

About damn time you started posting! Just no shilling for the Wyles character okay? I didn't see a menu either, but in one of the local rags (Pawsey wrote it I think) there was something about the upstairs menu being ... *sigh* "West Coast" favorites, and the concessions downstairs being more traditional beach fair. if they were smart they'd load up on munchies for the BC Bud crowd. All I had to do was look at the title of this thread, and I knew it was started by Sam!! I was down there last week ... and I don't disagree. But then, the previous building was no Taj Mahal either. Is Watermark still on track for June 15? I'm interested to see how much of their menu (not take-out) is deep fried. A. -
It's a shame the folks from Ch'i who saw fit to promote their restaurant on this very site, are not here now to answer these questions. A,

Or whatever rate FatPort is charging! Free WiFi is awesome! A.

Or you can join us at The C Sustainability Luncheon and hear from the other side. And now a word from the forum host ... This thread is straying OT. Discussion of the swordfish for example falls outside the definition of "our coast fisheries" unless things have changed. I've moved a number of posts over to this thread in General Foods HERE. Discussion in this thread needs to be specific to this region. Let's get ou t there and share this brain-trust with the world! I return you now to your regularly scheduled thread ... A.

You ever so humble servant. A.

The illustrious Mr. Talent has thoughtfully moved the "other" discussion over HERE. Let's here what the rest of the world has to say! A.

As we like to say at forum host school .... One more time ... with feeling We've strayed way too far off topic. This line of discussion was allowed to continue as it pertained somewhat to Pan-O-Pan ... remember Pan? The topic? We need to bring this thread back around to dicussing Pan-O-Pan, it's food and whether or not we like it, or even it's freakishly wierd mascot (see the web page.) This other line of discussion, albeit an excellent topic, belongs in General Food Topics and not in a regional forum. If we can't get back OT, I'll have to close this thread. Thanks, A.
