  1. I've been wanting to try Delhi Club, it's been open about a month now. I wonder if they do carryout (I live close by).
  2. Count me as another who subjected themselves to Galileo during restaurant week. The service is bad enough to non-VIPs during the regular season, and during restaurant week it's even worse. The food was absolutely dreadful. I agree that they shouldn't participate. Restaurants that I've enjoyed during Restaurant Week: Melrose, 1789 and Equinox.
  3. I think he's been trying to sell breadline for awhile now. I had the soft shell sandwich once, it's available on Thursday & Friday. I do not care for the brioche it is served on (the same one all of their seafood items are served on), it is too sweet to my taste. Also, the soft shell I got was tiny & not very meaty, the taste of the crab was easily overwhelmed by the other ingredients. It is served with very greasy french fries, I know a lot of people love their fries, but they are too heavy for me.
  4. Tom gives Sette 2 Stars.
  5. China Star gets 2 stars
  6. Greenberries is my favorite as well (for coffee, not ambience).
  7. I think Pasha Cafe is now Portabellos (http://portabellosrestaurant.com).

    Palena

Yes, they are Frank's recipe & made at Palena (it said that in Sietsema's original write-up), that's why Ann was saying to Don "We just don't understand how all these people think that the only thing worth buying at the bakery is a doughnut. And the one thing that we don't make. Think about it. It's so demeaning and hurtful to be confronted with this so often." I wonder what the price of the paninis are going to be, $9 also?
  9. Do you have to eat at the bar when your order off the bar menu at most of these places, or are tables available (like the palena cafe)?
  10. I went on Friday night (Sat. morning) at 2am, at that time they were only serving pizza & desserts, which was kind of disappointing, but then again it was open at 2am. I had a simple Margarita pizza which was excellent, not as good at Two Amy's, but better than most other pizza in the district (esp. Paradiso). The waiter was very attentive and friendly. The chocolate cannoli is indeed great (came with berries) & the coffee was better than average too. I agree, it will be impossible to get in after it gets reviewed, hopefully it still won't be too bad late at night.
  11. I used to really like Ray's the Steaks when they served hamburgers along with the affordable steak & fish dishes. I would go there fairly regularly with friends and families - you never needed a reservation & could be seated immediately. Then they decided to raise their prices & become "reservation" only. I tried to go there one night with my parents & was turned away, even though the dining room was completely emptly except for 2 tables. We ate at Guajillo instead, and when we left Guajillo, Ray's was STILL empty. Shortly thereafter Tom Sietsema reviewed it & it became wildly popular & now you DO really need a reservation to get in (I've never been back though). I'm not much of a steak-man, but their hamburgers used to be amazing (with unlimited high-quality toppings).
  12. 2 Amys is the best place for pizza in DC, I don't like Paradiso. I've only been once but it tasted so bland, I don't understand the appeal at all. 2 Amys does seem to be increasingly popular, the last time I DIDN'T have to wait for a table was last spring. The new holding area seems like a great idea. I would love it if they expanded & added another branch somewhere.
  13. My favorite place for coffee is defintely greenberry's. Although I don't like the decor so much, they definitely serve the best coffee in the area. Also I like Java Shack. Common Grounds serves gross coffee that manages to taste both burnt and weak. Yes, the service is rude too. It's a shame because the space is quite nice. El Charrito is far & away the best place for mexican, followed by Guajillo. El Paso Cafe & Rio Grande are good for Tex-Mex. Mexicali Blues has gone way downhill. El Mexicano is pretty bad, I would love if they did revamp the menu since I live so close. I'd rather walk to Baja Fresh for fast-food Mexican. It doesn't surprise me to learn that it is owned by an Indian gentleman because the El Mexicano in Gaithersburg used to also serve Indian food. I love Kabab Bazaar for Persian. Ask them to make you a falafel sandwich, it's not on the menu but is a lot of food for under $4. My tip for cheap weekday lunch is the Verizon cafeteria ...it's not bad for a cheap/quick lunch. They serve salads, pizza, sandwiches, hamburgers, etc...most made to order. If you work in the courthouse area, it's a nice change from going to Wendy's or Boston Market or Cosi or whatever. Also I really like Abi's for popusas & salvadoran fare. Has anyone been to the Broiler? It's on Columbia Pike I believe...a lot of my coworkers like it but I've never been, I hear the Philly Cheesesteak is pretty good.
  14. I had a chocolate cupcake once, it was very dry and overpriced. I don't know why they continue to sell such horrendous cupcakes, everyone I've talked to seems to know they're bad.
