  1. It's a shame they keep raising their prices while making portions smaller. When Buck's first opened the prices were supposed to be lower than Greenwood, but now the prices are the same, if not exceeding Greenwood. That $38 steak used to be $29.50. I guess they're not hurting for business so they can get away with charging what they like, but prices are pushing it for a casual meal. It definitely has prevented me from going there as much, and I'm a big fan of Carole's cooking.
  2. That's interesting, I noticed the increase of avocado dishes at Oyamel on my last visit. They even said they're having Avocado Week the week of Cinco de Mayo. My friend tried a special dessert called Avocado Four Ways & had a look of ecstasy on her face, I've never seen her look like that!
  3. I would just like to say that the service at Murky Arlington is WILDLY inconsistent...you never know if you are going to get someone who knows how to make an espresso drink or not. My friend ordered a triple shot of espresso & was served a single shot, when he brought it up the barista insisted it was a triple (it definitely was not). I try to keep track of the baristas who know what they are doing, but everytime I go it seems to be different employees. Also half of the time they are out of chocolate for Mochas/Hot Chocolate. But the product is definitely better than what was served at Common Grounds.
  4. I would recommend Delhi Club for Indian, a block or 2 from Iota. I think the owner posts on egullet. The dishes are carefully prepared & reasonably priced. Kabob Bazaar is delicious Iranian food, very casual and inexpensive, also within walking distance of Iota. The food at Iota is actually not bad. I'm not a fan of Boulevard Woodgrill or Whitlow's. BTW Tallula is less than a mile away from Iota, just up Washington Blvd.
  5. I'm sure they'll add you if you send a request to coloradokitchen@aol.com The email updates are sent from that address.
  6. Tom awards a single star
  7. Read on the other board that Amernick is closing & there are only two days left of operation. Does anyone have more info? Very sad if true!
  8. Anyone remember The Eleven? That was the shit.
  9. That's my hope. The menu that I was mailed a month or so ago didn't wow me, but it also looked as though it had been worded by a Smithsonian staffer rather than someone on the food side ("Red and white wines"). ← I will also be attending the Keller/Richard dinner tonight at Citronelle. I agree that the menu they sent a few months ago didn't look so great, but we shall see!
  10. Their cupcakes are pretty bad, I think the owner needs to spend more time on perfecting his craft & less time on marketing, but hey he seems to be doing well. If you're going to spend that much on a cake, I agree that Amernick is a better option.
  11. I think Two Amys received 3 stars previously in his book (Paradiso might've as well, I don't have a copy right now in front of me). Huong Que previously received 3 stars, downgraded now to 2. Buck's definitely deserves their 3 stars, every meal I've had there has been fabulous and it's less expensive than Nectar & Palena (backroom).
  12. Surprised no one has mentioned Taqueria El Charrito Caminante in Arlington...Their burritos easily blow away all the chains mentioned.
  13. that steak story is hilarious - carole's steaks are huge!
