  1. I've always loved it there and the last lunch 2 weeks ago i had was probably the best of the 3 times i've been. Aircon is probably because of the chaps having to keep their jackets on. I'm not in the league to go there for the a la carte in the evening though
  2. I think he's poor You'd of thought the guarniad would of employed someone who is more of a foody ponce as it's the sort of paper foody ponces read. BTW I regard myself as a foody ponce hence hanging around this site
  3. I did a day at Le Gavroche a month ago. Was going to write it up here when i had the time. It was pretty awesome though. I had always wanted to see what it was like in a professional kitchen and sent an email saying i hated my job and could i pop down for half an hour just to see what it was like and got a reply from Michel Roux Jr saying to come down for the day.
  4. that he snapped at him 'i don't care who you are, you're still a fucking wanker!' Winner was silenced. I always would like to think if i saw him in a restaurant it wouldn't take him spilling wine down me for me to point that out to him
  5. I think what Jay's saying is that if you're spending that kind of money at a top end restaurant then it shouldn't be such a pain in the arse to do so.
  6. Yeah i wondered given that Mark Sargeant & Angela Harnett are working in the TV studio everynight who's going to be looking after those places. And i agree the programme was shoddy like some crappy I'm a celebrity in a Kitchen get me out of here. I can't understand why Ramsay is doing it or what he will gain from it other than increasing his profile and obviously book sales. As a foody ponce and a person who eats in his places i'd far rather he was actually cooking in his restaurants than doing the pantomime dame angry guy to a bunch of z-list pillocks (Al Murray excepted who's fantastic)
  7. Sorry, who? Sorry meant Fort it was early
  8. Please find below my handy cut out and keep survey of critics i read/have read: Gill - Tit. Not worth reading Fort - Good Maschler - Good Winner - Tit. Not worth reading Moir - Good, if a bit irritating Coren - Tit. Sometimes worth reading Rayner - Good, sometimes very funny (opinion not swayed fact he posts here) Young - Tit. Worth giving a shoeing.
  9. You may be interested to know that on Trouble at the top 9:50pm on BBC2 it follows Tom Aiken going back into business with the new set up
  10. So did you go yesterday on the 3rd? If you were walking into the dinning where abouts would you have been sat? I went yesterday and went for the same starter and main (think that was the most beautiful potato i've ever tasted) and the lamb was superb Went for a chocolate pear creation off the ala carte menu for dessert which was beautiful For the price it's an absolute steal and if i ever get into the Howard Long category (have you read his review of Sketch on london eating? he got cash) then i'm definitely going back for the tasting menu.
  11. Have to say i've booked for lunch in a couple of weeks on the basis of this thread
  12. For Soho, i think you can't go wrong with Vasco & Piero's Pavillion on Poland St. I always enjoy it there and have recommended it to many a friend. Tremendous value.
  13. I had dinner there before christmas and have to say i was disappointed, i have eaten at the Orrery before and think Chris Galvin is excellent and was fully aware that is was brasserie style food but my dishes were both over salted and a bit poor. The room definitely has a buzz about it though. My wife likes the sleb rubbish and felt short changed by getting that ginger bloke out of love actually and Kilroy
  14. There's plenty of good gastro pubs in the area, Atlas as mentioned before. The Scarsdale is nice http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/show.shtml/172/ as is the Abingdon http://www.squaremeal.co.uk/restaurants/lo...p?Rest_ID=80090 which is more of a restaurant than a boozer I had a nice meal at kensington Place just before Christmas which is quite loud inside but good food http://www.squaremeal.co.uk/restaurants/lo...p?Rest_ID=80780
  15. Yeah it's been closed for the last couple of weeks for refurbishment, it re opens tomorrow night, am looking forward to checking it out again.
  16. OO OO OO!!! Long time listener first time caller. I have to recommend Ma Cuisine, it's tremendous value for money and my local. I've had one good meal and one poor meal at McClements (the poor one was on Valentines night and probably down to my school boy error of trying to expect something good on that night when they just jammed people in and provided a set menu). I really like McClements though and like the way they have just been quitely ploughing their own furrow, trying to bring a bit of high end dining to Twickenham. Glasshouse is excellent too.
