  1. Should be a doddle at that time, though depends how many there are of you, 2's & 3's easy for them to find space as you just share tables, larger than that takes more time.
  2. er, she's away. currently being 'covered' by victor lewis smith. ← God VLS is shite in the standard He was shite in the guardian and is really shite again in the standard His writing is so formulaic and dull for "funny" writer Crap joke at start, shoe horned into linking it to piece, sprinkle in 3 or 4 really laboured similes/metaphors, along with a general feeling of "it'll fucking do" and file. I swear he was actually good/interesting a long time ago but his restaurant and TV stuff is just dross these days
  3. We had an absolutely fantastic table from hell a da fiore in Venice. We were at lunch and an american couple was sat behind us. The woman in the couple verbally and loudly destroyed this guy over 90 minutes in the usually relatively sedate michelin starred restaurant. She took him apart for what a lousy man he was, how he left his original girfriend for her making him scum, how he didn't love her, was emotionally bankrupt and went on and on. I felt so sorry for the guy that it was my wife who had to stop me from letting me advise the the guy to tell her to fuck off. Also in the restaurant was a loudgroup of 10 french people getting boistorously leathered at one end of the room who actually came over to apologise to us for them being drunk and loud, which i thought was quite considerate but they were nothing compared to this woman It was one of the most excruciating, entertaining, embarrassing, fascinating and amusing meals i've ever had. Food was pretty good too.
  4. Vasco & Piero's pavillion, Poland street, soho - is excellent
  5. Welcome DKPS, Few thoughts RHR is argueably the top restaurant in the country, certainly in the top 3. If you start off at the top then everything after at an upper level may not compare aswell. Having said that they're paying so why not go for the best. What about Anthony's in Leeds? it'd be less far to travel and RHR is only open on weekdays. If i was to give one piece of advice it would be cane the wine list wherever you go, well they did say fully expensed.
  6. WOO YAY HOUPLA Just got mine for May too *Does headspin*
  7. http://www.squaremeal.co.uk/news/display.php?CategoryID=6 3rd story down Great news this I had a superb meal there in Paris a few months ago Not sure if it will be a sitting on bar stools place like the Paris Restaurant. http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=69966 Wonder how they'll get on at that site though
  8. Fine Dining - Tom Aikens/Pied a terre Gastropub - Anchor & Hope waterloo Afternoon tea - wolsely snack fare - marylebone high street has plenty of places along it
  9. Isn't this the former premises of Anda? Very tricky location, IMO ← Yes indeed, ex-Anda, ex-Incognito, since I have lived here, I have not seen a successful restaurant here - I hope they can make it work, we need something really good in this area! Another dead spot in the area is the one in Marylebone Lane where Relais de Venise is about to open up, ex-The Lane, ex-Pick up Stix, ex... ex.... ← and Michiachi looks to have closed just down from it, which was a shame as it was a nice place. am looking forward to trying Galvin Bistro, it's about a minute from my work, i feel some expense claims coming on
  10. I would not accuse of them of using food coloring, but I would not rule it out either. ← yeah the thought did occur to me but i would hope at that level they wouldn't be stooping to that
  11. I've absolutely no idea how they made it so amazingly green, only the 1/2cm between the flesh and the skin in an avocado is that green, it was such a stange and brilliant dish, the top layer was definitely "set" kind of like a mousse and there seemed to be a hint of lime in the crab but then to be fair the avocado could have had it too, i think that would be the only way of keeping the avocado from turning in contact with air. Good luck recreating it though, it's probably the toughest one to recreate off that menu and you're far braver than I.
  12. Just found this. Thanks so much for posting this, it has just brought the memories back of yesterdays meal, which despite the circumstances was fantastic The circumstances were that it was sunday morning of a stag do, who's drinking had started at 10am on Friday morning on the Euro star and finished (bar a few hours sleep) at 6am on sunday morning. I've wanted to go to this restaurant for so long so when i found out the stag do was going to Paris i knew i had to try the opportunity to sneak away from the group and indulge my foodie needs. At noon with the lads sat outside a cafe trying to piece together the previous night I told them I had something i needed to do (none of the others had the desire to spend €100+ on their lunch) On arrival i was delighted to find it was actually open (as it was August) and only half full. I took a seat with a great view of the kitchen and after drinking two oringina in 60 seconds followed my a litre of water set about the tasting menu. It was great, I had the same menu as you mentioned but I went for the lamb. The staff were very friendly for someone sat on their own and realised I was in much pain. After the mushroom martini glass foam course I thought there was a very real chance that I was going to die but eventually I finished the meal and with the help of an lovely glass of white then red I left the restaurant believing everything in the world might just be OK. I met up with the rest of the chaps at the eurostar lounge at Garde Norde to find them taking full advatage of the free beer. As we pulled away from the station I had a big smile on my face at the treat I'd enjoyed, that and I'd helped myself to a few of the free stellas (there was no way i was getting on that train sober) I'd highly recommend it
  13. Have given it 3 shows and hoped it would get better but it just doesn't seem to work, it's really awkward watching and in essence cack. Which is a shame because I really want a decent foodie program.
  14. Corn, and re hashed old corn at that Christ he really was shite.
  15. Don't you think it's a good thing we have someone trying something new, not assuming techniques and actually questioning why things are done the way they are done and could they be done better another way. If we didn't have people pushing boundaries we'd never progress and go stale.
  16. When i was 23 i was really nervous about going to a michelin starred restaurants, i thought as i wasn't posh and was young either they wouldn't let me have a table (I used to get a girl in the office to book for me) or that they'd realise I was actually scum and treat me badly/ask me to leave. I'm not exactly sure why I had this idea, that was my impression of these types of restaurants before hand but i was so wrong, at that level the service was superb, I had never been to restaurants where they couldn't do enough for you and to a certain extent if you're spending that kind of money they bloody should treat you nicely. I totally agree with with what Matthew said about not going to a 3* first though. After a few 1* we ate at RHR and it took me another year to fully understand why it was a 3* compared to other 2 & 1stars. Also it means that experiences get better and better rather than a huge high which other 1 stars will struggle to match. Besides being the youngest people in a restaurant is cool it feels like you are special and different from the other people.

    Allez le stag

Thanks a lot for these suggestions, much appreciated. I didn't consider the private room option either which is an excellent idea too, it will keep us out of harms way.
  18. I know this isn't the usual type of question posted on here about the best 3 star in paris but I would appreciate some input if you could spare the time. I'm on a stag do in Paris early August and am in charge of booking the restaurants for the two evenings. There's likely to be about 10 of us. None are morons but then we are still 10 English lads which isn't the most appealing to restaranteurs. Much as I'd like to try to steer them to a top place we can't afford it and I'd be concerned if they shouted "what the fack is this jelly rubbish?" at somewhere like pierre gagnaire. In short i'm looking for somewhere mid level €40-50 a head or lower with wine that would accept a reasonable size male group. Can anyone help?
  19. You could try Michael Moore's on Blandford Street http://www.london-eating.co.uk/2434.htm I've been a couple of times as I work nearby and it's good
  20. I think the best kitchen for learning in London is probably Le Gavroche
