Colette fills her form out in English and I do it in French; so who knows how we're classified. I've heard rumors that American-based respondants are over-represented.
-
I cannot think of one that I'd be uncomfortable walking in.

Today's NYT had a 36 Hours in Mykonos article by Andrew Ferren that mentioned Te Maerio, Raya, Agios Sostis, Club Belvedere, Uno con Carne & Nammos.

I have finally seen the hard copy of the issue and it's quite clear that the content of Lobrano's article is good and hangs together, the goofy title is, as I suspected, the editors' attempt to be provocative/witty/ironic/amusing/etc. Disclosure: I like and agree with Lobrano a lot.

Updates for Paris Restaurants: Auguste, Pinxo, Toi
John Talbott replied to a topic in France: Dining
I think I agree with everything above. Auguste delivers only 33% of the time, that's the problem. I'm still eating at Le Gaigne. My problem with Citrus Etoile is his ego/price ratio. Pinxo has never disappointed me nor db but I haven't been in a year to either. Besson, excellent. -
I'm certain that Alec Lobrano, after 20 some odd years in Paris didn't come up with that title; editors at work I suspect.Alert readers may recall that The Wall Street Journal said December 10-11th, 2005, that the “Trendy….New ‘Hood” was to be found in the 10th, 11th, 19th and 20th. Interesting concordance, eh? Felice sent me the link a bit back and I wasn't aware Gourmet had such a dedicated site.

Although I'm not surprised, that's what I was afraid would be the case. ← Let me just add that I've been in Paris the week between Christmas and New Year's for two decades and while it requires extra attention and more searching, one can survive for at least one meal out per day.

The Week of Aug 11th, 2008 Monday, Le Fooding's Sylvie Augereau wrote up Le Duo des Lys in Nyons. Figaro Madame had an article on Anne Fontaine’s new book on Normand food. This week in l’Express, there was an article by Sylvie Wolff on restaurants in Arles that included: La Chassagnette, Le Bistrot d'à côté, La Charcuterie, La Bodeguita + Chez Bob. As I’ve noted before, it’s a slow news month, so I’ll list these 10 Hot places in Paris according to Gayot.com: L'Astrance, Le Chacha, Chen -- Soleil d'Est, Le Dali, L'Epigramme, ETC., Fogon Saint-Julien, Gordon Ramsay au Trianon, Jean-Jacques Jouteux, 153 Grenelle + Lasserre. Saturday-Sunday in Figaro Madame Lucile Escourrou had an interview of Gregory Coustanceau about his 10-year-old resto Les Flots in La Rochelle. Saturday/Sunday, in Bonjour Paris, John Talbott published an essay on “Bistro Brasserie Resto Café Bar II.” On Sunday, Edward Lewine had an article in the NYT entitled “Classified Matters” that discussed the debate over St Emilion chateau wine classification. Please post comments here and not in the Digest thread.

I am gradually updating the compendia of existing topics and there is one on holidays and one that is specific to Christmas.

The Reservoir Tavern in Parsippany, really Boontown, is a blast from the past. We were advised to get off 287 en route from Baltimore to North Adams, Mass, by an old eGullet Society member, to try a place that was quite special, although some web reports were horrible. It’s been in business since 1936, run by the Bevaqua family, Nick being the current reigning presence, and specializes in pizza that has the best crust I’ve ever had in this country or in Italy. The beginning salads were very generous (the radicchio, arugula and other greeny things very fresh and tasty) and the pizza’s topping of garlic and clams a bit too wet for me but not Colette. The bread was incredibly good, especially with some garlic/pepper/rosemary infused olive oil; the salad and bread and the pizza crust ensured that we’ll be on by next year. Our bill = $34.51 with three iced teas and no dessert. This is a local’s place; all the patrons being either old folk, some from Nick’s high school class, or young’uns from the Silicon Valley East companies in the area.

I've already reported that Raimo reopened and Julien above commented on Constant but ParisObs/NouvelObs's "Holiday on Ice" article this week lists as third to these - Alpérel which provides delivery via the internet.

I'm reading between the lines or finding information by omission, but it seems that Les Saveurs de Flora Mikula is no longer serving a "women's lunch" but has a 29 Euro one for all, according to Les Gourmandises de Philippe. {PS I always liked the place.}

Just don't be disappointed if all the stuff listed on their outside signs isn't available in fact.

The Week of Aug 4th, 2008 Monday, Le Fooding's Mamie Françoise wrote up Ô. Bontemps. Wednesday in the NYT Mark Bittman wrote an article entitled “Rich, Luxurious, French (Not to Mention Vegetarian)” about La Zucca Magica in Nice. Saturday-Sunday in Figaro Madame Lucile Escourrou had an interview of Gregory Coustanceau about his 10-year-old resto Les Flots in La Rochelle. Saturday/Sunday, in Bonjour Paris, Margaret Kemp wrote a piece on the missing Michelin searcher Pascal Henry and John Talbott one on “Bistro Brasserie Resto Café Bar.” Please post comments here and not in the Digest thread.

This is an old topic but one which has relevance this week after the news stories, such as that in the IHT about the disappearance of the guy, Pascal Henry, a moto courrier who was going to eat his way through the 68 three stars of the world and quit at #40 El Bulli. Today's Le Monde had yet another article calling him a marathon man and mocking the whole business. Margaret Kemp in this week's Bonjour Paris offered him a free subscription if he'd come in from the cold. Slow news month I'd say.

I have been twice since the re-make and both times it was fine but not great. As someone who ate at l'Archestrate and early Lucas-Carton, it is apparent that this is not the same but given price-quality from a great man, it'll do very well indeed.

An article in today's NYT by Lionel Beehner listed the following in Kosice: Twelve Apostles, Bill Restaurant + Diesel Pub.

Any good eats in Geneva, Switzerland?
John Talbott replied to a topic in Elsewhere in Europe: Dining
As you know, Geneva is right up against France there and Annecy is not far and though not a lot of members have reported lately Marc Veyrat's place is a "destination;" nor is it far to a place I love, the Ferme de Lormay in Grand-Bornand (at least in non-snowy weather) which closes Sept 8. -
While awaiting replies you might want to look at the topics listed in the compendium of existing topics on starred restaurants, updated just yesterday. There are lots of good ideas and opinions there.

I've told my tale before but Pierre's post prompted an addition to it: while Phyllis/Felice and I had a terrific dinner there just after it opened and I had one OK lunch the following week and one disasterous lunch soon after - I have not gone back, despite my many meals at the old Regalade. (I also have recounted my declining experiences at Bruno Doucet's Regalade).

Laidback; what is your source/reference? June's WHERE had a piece by Alexander Lobrano indicating it was in business and their website is still active.
