Seems to be $1.00 difference between west coast and prairies. I did pick up 2 lovely fillets yesterday and will enjoy them tonight (2 fish nights in a row!). Want to get a couple steaks if they are decent for steaming before they go off the flyer next week...Superstore @3.99/100g Waited in line with about 100 others yesterday, in a chilling west wind, for pickerel from the Gimli fish guy! Wasn't going to get any as I still had 4 lbs in the freezer, but brother and kids wanted some. Had the granddaughters up for play date and son joined us while d-i-l worked. Sent 2 pieces and chips home for d-i-l. She re-heated them up in the oven and said the batter was still crispy! Fish in "beer batter" -but used only soda water and double-fry chips. Dips were curry gravy, spicy or regular ketsup, tartar sauce, or malt vinegar Picked these "cones" up at Stokes, in anticipation of the kidlets...They ( 5 and 3 year olds) were happy to have their own special dishes...perfect for little hands: fish "sticks", chips, fresh vegetables

@ElsieD: It's House Foods - sold at Safeway. I've been trying to get the Zerooles brand but both my suppliers are "Out of Stock or Sold Out"! I keep checking their sites every morning. One of these days!

Had picked up a boneless lamb shoulder bundle and got to cook it for Easter dinner for two. Decided to not roast it. Cut the chunk into large pieces, and did a cumin stir-fry. Eaten with a piece of roti and roasted cauliflower. Plenty left over, so two portions were shared with friends who are sole lamb eaters in their families. Still had enough for another meal last night for us. It's a nice change up from the usual roast, or grilled, or coconut curry. Rice would have been lovely, especially the slightly sticky short grain we had been eating on our Asia trip. However...trying to reduce carbs yet again!

Starting to get my mojo back from jet-lag. Granddaughters spent the afternoon, and fulfilling their requests for supper kept me going! Char siu ribs Shrimp Chow Mein

Been away travelling (Japan, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and Korea) since March 6 and just got home last night. Re-stocked the fridge with lots of vegetables, cheese, a boneless lamb shoulder (reduced $5.00), a couple of sirloin steaks (reduced $5.00), 2 ribs roasts on sale @$4.77 / lb! and some other protein, but all I could muster was a family favourite - comfort food. It was quite a contrast to our last dinner in our hotel in Seoul. Mac & Cheese moat with creamed salmon and corn Seafood Buffet at Ibis in Style Hotel, Seoul, Korea The first plate from 11 o'clock: Deep fried Shepherd's Purse and Deodeok, Deep fried Cereal-coated Shrimp, grilled onion, 5-spice Pork Belly, stuffed Squid, Butter Braised Abalone, grilled beeg shortribs, sushi stuffed with kimchi, and another sushi wrapped with moss-like nori. The abalone was fabulous! It's been many years since I'ce had fresh abalone. I ate FOUR! Other options were clam and beef tendon soup; rice noodle soup with baby octopus, mussels, clams, shrimp, and scallops; shrimp in cream sauce; chili clams salad, Singapore Spicy Crab, and on and on.

The Last supper...at home... Might be called a "3-P Dinner: Pickerel, Peas, and Pattie! Drizzled with mango-chili sauce on the fish and spicy ketsup on the tater pattie We should be getting lots of different and fresh seafood where we are going!

Trying to get stuff in the fridge used up before we head off for another Asian trip. Picked up a pack of 2 thick boneless pork sirloin chops at Safeway - 50% off with 2 days before "Use before date". Brushed with mayo and coated with Creole seasoned Panko crumbs. The chops were 1.5 inch thick, so I started them on the stove then into the oven to finish. Sauteed some mushrooms, and had some of the orange/cranberry/apple/pecan chutney I made at Xmas. Totally off the low-carb wagon! Hope the walking, climbing on our trip will work that off. Had pulled out a "Chuck Bottom Blade" roast but we're not really pot roast fans. So it was cut into big chunks, added Penang curry paste, fresh lemongrass, Kaffir lime leaves, carrots and celery for a curry. Threw in some green beans also that had been languishing in the fridge. After sauteeing, added coconut milk, and it was ready in 50 minutes in the Instant Pot. The meat was tender but still a bit of chew on the gristly part. The beans basically melted except for a few! Eaten with a roti (which should have been rice or naan!)

You've downloaded the one I used...Indian Instant Pot Cookbook by Uravashi Pitre

Chicken Korma from Indian Instant Pot cookbook. Having all the necessary spices and other ingredients, the dish was easy to put together. Loved the aroma, the full-bodied flavours, and the bit of delayed heat. Eaten with basmati rice cooked with cumin seeds and the green cardamom, cauliflower and peas, and a"salad" of avocado, tomato, and radishes. Kitchen still smells lovely!

With balmy temperatures of -7C yesterday, we finally took down all the outdoor Xmas decorations now that CNY's Day has been celebrated! Supper was also a "take down" of leftovers and the vegetable crisper: The leftover strip loin au poivre over sauteed yu choy And tofu, eggplant, green bell pepper in Toban sauce (Sechuan spicy bean sauce) Dessert was cherry pie - without ice-cream 'cos we're on a diet!
-
Well seasoned with grinds of black pepper - Strip loin grilled on top of stove and finished in oven. Made some green peppercorn gravy for dipping. Eaten with stir-fried snap peas, asparagus, and bell pepper and carrot fries.

On a whim, and attracted by price, I picked up a can of frozen minced lobster... Then, I didn't know what to do with it. Today, Superstore had 3 oz. lobster tails on for $2.98, so on a whim, I picked up 4 of them. Decided it was a good time to make lobster sauce with the minced stuff and the little "bodies", tomato puree, shallots, tomato paste, bell pepper, basil, mint, and parsley. Had some capers and fresh green peppercorns, so they all went in. I didn't cook the tails in the sauce...just sauteed the chunks in butter. Had this over Zeroodle mung bean noodles mixed with black bean noodles. After seeing the mussels on previous page, I really wanted some. However, they didn't look too lively, but the Manila and Savory clams looked good. Steamed those up with lemongrass, cilantro, and white wine. Supper came together nicely but wayyy too many pans used!

Kaffir Lime leaves under the skin and inside the cavity. Turmeric massaged onto the skin. Roasted and devoured!

Picked up some Za'atar for a recipe last year and it's been sitting on the shelf for too long! Marinated some chicken thighs in a mixture of Za'atar, lemon juice and zest, garlic, and OV, and seared them on the cast iron grill - finished in the oven. Eaten with Brussel Sprouts with pecans, shallots, and Dijon mustard; and carrot fries.

Punjabi Dry Curry Chicken - a couple of weeks ago. I THINK it's a recipe from Twosleeves - Urvashi Pitre I have such a pile of new recipes to try...Must get organized! But this was a nice change from the saucy curries we usually eat.
-
Picked up 2 pkgs of lamb chops - price reduced by 50% - gotta love my Safeway down the street! Trimmed the meat off the 7 chops, marinated with salt, pepper, and cumin in the fridge for the day. Heated the cast iron wok to smoking and seared the bones first, added chunks of onion, then the slices of lamb. Eaten with curry cauliflower and gingery bean sprouts. I REALLY enjoyed gnawing on the crispy bits on the bones.

Unfortunately, I have to wait for spring to get our treat of gogi vegetables. What did Pig Offal include?
