  1. I had some pulled pork from there the other day that was pretty good. They make it with Dinosaur BBQ sauce though which is probably why it was so good. Not very smoky but saves me 7 hours off cooking and I can't get it to come out any better from my oven.
  2. Perry's is pretty good up there
  3. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but where does the smoke go? I'm stumped how there can be an indoor smoker! half goes out the sliding glass door and the other half seeps into the carpet and walls and slowly releases a heavenly scent for 5-7 days.
  4. That's probably because they didn't taste Duke's. Actually, they did.
  5. Dinosaur is definitely one of my all time favorite places from back in my college days. Was up at Cuse a few weeks ago for a basketball game and ate at dinosaur twice and brought home a couple sandwiches as well! Definitely the best ribs and pulled pork I have had, though I am a northerner... Everyone should try the sauce, especially the wango tango. We have it shipped down to DC off their website, but I understand you can get it at the new Wegman's out by Dulles!!! (Another favorite place of mine). I have the cookbook, autographed by John Stage, and have made a number of the recipes and everything has turned out excellent. I also adapted some of the BBQ recipes for my oven since I am an apartment dweller....damn good results but the smoke smell does take a good week to clear out of the place. Kudos for them moving over to NYC after the Rochseter move...should open in Buffalo too so I can go when I go home to visit the parents. Also DC would be a great spot because all the BBQ here sucks!
  6. Got me. But "Hellman's Real Mayonnaise." Oh. That. Well, you know Holly, I don't see why the teenagers with strong arms in the prep area can't be shown how to make mayo at the beginning of the shift. The only hard part is the whisking and it can be done in a blender or processor. Safer and easier than chopping onions. By the way: What kind of onions does BK or McD's use? Yellow cooking onions or something more palatable? I was watching America's test kitchen a few weeks ago and they did a blind tasting of different Mayos. Needless to say when they unveiled the winners it was Hellmans #1 and Light Hellmans #2. If i was some 15 year old kid and they wanted me to "whip up some fresh mayo" there would definitely be a couple health code violations if you catch my drift....safer from the jar and taste-test approved.
  7. Real Mayonaisse says "Hellman's"
  8. I haven't been yet, but got a report that they have Sahlen's hot dogs here which is reason enough to rent a car and make the trip!
  9. Everyone always complains about the sides at pollo rico on here, but I think they make really good fries and slaw and look forward to that as well as the chicken. If they started expanding the menu that would only expand the price in my opinion, and that is one of the best selling points
  10. I have that Rocklands problem as well. Pollo Rico is great, but I still could not see myself going too far out of the way to get it, especially if I were to move into DC. Maybe if it was nice to sit in there I would consider it, but I usually I just take it home which would be tricky if I wasn't in the area
  11. 55th and Madison byt the Sony building, but this was 5 years ago. Man that cart was good. They had a line around the corner but worth the wait. The guy's wife made the tzatziki fresh every morning....used to make him put it on the fries and everything. Too bad they don't have carts like that in DC!
  12. They definitely have people at the door bright and early in the morning on weekends. Not sure about weekdays, however... I think it depends on what sort of rugby/cricket shenanigans are going on in the world. Yeah whenever I am there that early it is because I am there to see Syracuse beat Georgetwon at the MCI center
  13. I've been carded there at 11 am, and in no way do I look under 21 anymore.
  14. I suggest trying the menu items as well as the omikase. had the 80 and 100 omikase and then ordered the menu the third time there. Still very good and comes out quite a bit cheaper. I ordered a sampler appetizer which is 3 or 5 little cups of whatever he wants to make...so with that and an entree I still got a lot of variety and it was all awesome tasting and definitely helps the wallet even with a couple sake-tini's
  15. Was there last night. still damn good. I do think the pork is even better than it was. Had some fried dumplings that were pretty tasty too.
  16. Since the reopening? i had heard that it had gone downhill a little. I was there a couple days after it opened and then again once more since then. All I had was pork noodle soup and choi sum but they were damn tasty as always. Don't let the somewhat brighter and less dirty atmosphere scare you away!
  17. I third the Full Kee motion.
  18. I like progresso's Manhattan clam chowder better than Campbells. I like Campbell's condensed split pea soup better than any other brand though
  19. Just joking about Cananada. I grew up near the border too....as does 90% of their population!
  20. You would think that would be tough huh?
  21. i think you can bring in one bottle per person....but err .... I think that is more of a suggestion if you catch my drift... Also, coming down from Canada I dont know what kind of deals they have. I always buy on the way up into America Jr.
  22. they have wine i believe, but you can only have liquor in an actual liquor store in NY. BUT, if you are crossing into Canada just go to the duty free shop and they have really great deals. In fact do this any way even if you weren't planning on it. Last time I was up there I got two 1.3 litre bottles of grey goose for $40 and they also have great deals on Macallan and other single malts (that is all I drink but they also have deals on other liquor/cigarettes/perfume, etc). You can also stock up on cheap cases of Labatt Blue, which is a must if you are going to be in Canada!
  23. my experience has been completely opposite. It happens. :) Case in point: I'm pretty sure that our bad exp at Ravi Kabob was an offday, but it was a bad enough exp for my dining partner...that we aren't going back. Dry kabobs are icky. :) Kind of like an experience I had at Johnny's Half Shell. Everyone told me how great that place was for over a year and I finally went there and had one of the worst meals ever but everyone else still loves it. Will never go back out of principle, but that doesn't necessarily mean it isn't good (although it isn't!)
  24. I agree with Kabob Bazaar over Food Factory
