  1. There may be more than one restaurant in the Bois de Boulogne, but I suspect you are referring to Pre Catelan. My wife and I ate there last September and absolutely loved it. Definitely a grand dining experience with a beautfiul room and formal ambiance. I think it would be about right for the budget you mention and they certainly have a good wine list. The food is interesting without being overly challenging and expertly prepared.
  2. Couldn't the same be said of much of their current "New & Notable" list? At least 4 of them were open when I was in Paris over a year ago.
  3. I suppose the Maltby Cafe is too far off the track? I had a pretty good breakfast at a place in Marysville a couple years ago, but damned if I can remember the name. It looked like a log cabin and was right off the freeway. How's that for helpful?
  4. They had matsutakes at Mutual Fish when I went by yesterday. I pan roasted them with black cod last night, very tasty.
  5. Don't forget the China Sun Buffet in Port Orchard as our other local representative...
  6. Glowing review by Nancy Leson in the Times today. 3.5 stars, same as Union, Lark and Cascadia! Damn....
  7. I actually went to 727 the other night and took advantage of their bar menu. I would say that service was at least as good as any other time I've been there and the food was very tasty.
  8. Congrats Batgrrrl & Klink! This is really great news. We're almost three months into baby-dom already (time flies) and it's an amazing experience. What about casserole kinds of things like moussaka or spanakopeta? Just about anything braised should freeze fine too. I made this Turkish eggplant & lentil stew recently and it came out fantastic. May not be freezeable, but should be made a day or two before eating anyways.
  9. Thanks Pat. Also, is the One World menu going to be carried over to next week or will there be something new?
  10. Just got the menus emailed to me today. At the bottom it says 'Tuesday - Friday'. Does this mean that these menus are going to be served on Friday as well or is it still the buffet?
  11. Probably for the same reason that Wild Ginger continues to be a darling of the Seattle diningin scene, not that I understand what the reason is, mind you....
  12. I totally agree. Before eating at Union, I never thought of pairing mushrooms with fish, but those are some of the best dishes I've had there.
  13. I'm just about as big a Union fan as could be (not that anyone here could tell that), and I have to agree with Gourmet's comment on service. It is almost always well-intentioned and friendly, but I've witnessed too much jaw-dropping amateurism to give them a total pass on it. Certainly nothing I've experienced will keep me from going back as often as possible, but it does prevent the experience from reaching the next level. There are a couple servers that are the worst offenders, but I can't say I've ever had what I would call a truly top-class service experience there.
  14. I think sauvignon blanc would be a better choice....
  15. Peel, slice, eat.....
  16. Interesting what a different experience I had at Chez l'ami Jean when I was there last year. My wife and I arrived for a somewhat late lunch (~1:00) so the restaurant was relatively calm and we were the only tourists that I could discern. Food was excellent, highlighted by piquillo peppers stuffed with cod brandade and pig's feet andouillette. Service was indifferent, but the chef did come out and talk to us briefly.
  17. That's probably it. Guess it's not new then and I have no idea if its any good. As always, I'm a font of useful info....
  18. How's this for vague.... Driving through SODO recently, I saw a sign on 1st Ave S (or was it 4th?) saying there was an Italian deli opening soon, so maybe there's some hope.
  19. Two places that are good for late-night and I think a vegetarian (though not necessarily a vegan) would have enough options to put together a satisfying dinner: The Capitol Club Pomodoro
  20. For salmon and oyster (crab too), definitely Elliott's on the waterfront.
  21. Great list S-D. I work a stone's throw from a few of these, so I really need to take the plunge for lunch some day soon.
  22. vw8v, thanks for reporting back. It's always good for those of us who think we know what the flip we're talking about to get feedback from visitors. Takohachi? Why don't I even know of this place?? Give it up the 411, someone!
  23. I shouldn't critisize when I don't have a good alternative to suggest, but the one time I tried Shiro's I was very dissapointed, particularly given all the adoration that flows its way. Many people, including the chef at Mistral, have sung the praises of Saito's to me, but I haven't gotten there yet. Saito's 2122 2nd Ave Seattle, WA 98121 Phone: 206.728.1333
  24. If 'teenage' means 13 or 14, no, but if it means 18 or 19, I spend every day surrounded by them...
  25. Tulio is just a block away in the Hotel Vintage Park.
