  1. We always tip on the final total, & have never heard of anyone deducting the wine before calculating the tip. Read somewhere the head of the Restaurant Association in B.C. doubles the GST on his bill to figure the tip...seems a little cheap to me!
  2. Congratulations Lisa! I have your book on my shelf.....& now really must try your recipes for: DROWNED (BOILED) BABY DOG'S BODY SOUSED HOG'S FACE Yum!
  3. Interesting your recipe for Isle Flotant comes from "The Gaslight Gourmet" TV show. The show is made in Canada, & I'm wondering if it's broadcast in your area, or if you got the recipe from the internet. Really enjoying reading about your daily life in France, & viewing your photos!
  4. Glad you enjoyed your trip, chasmartel. Couldn't have picked a better time weather wise!
  5. Lucy, your photographs are just beautiful...they should be published! I'm really enjoying your blog, & living in France vicariously through you. Much cheaper this way!
  6. Thanks Jamie, I got a laugh out of your letter to the Calgary paper. Pete McMartin had a good article in The Sun on this same topic.
  7. How about making this particular blog a permanent thing? What do you say?
  8. Great photos! Looks like you had the best birthday! The food in your room looked as good as the restaurant meal... And weren't you the lucky ones to have chosen a time when the weather was so great? Got to love Vancouver Island!
  9. I don't think we can get 100 proof vodka in Canada, so....would it be worthwhile making Limoncello with regular vodka only?
  10. CityFood can usually be found in LCB stores, in a rack near the front door. They usually go quickly though.
  11. I haven't specifically looked for wedding cake supplies, but Gourmet Warehouse at 1856 Pandora has a large selection of all things food related, at reasonable prices. I usually find what I "need" there, as well as lots that I just "want"!
  12. Many thanks Marlene! I felt I was a house guest of yours for a few days, & you made me feel very welcome indeed!
  13. Thanks for sharing Marlene, I'm really enjoying this.
  14. Hope you meant to type "broil"....

    Tofino

Thank you answering Merlin....I was begining to think we were the only ones who DIDN'T find the food we had at SOBO...... "not just recommended.....a must !!!!!!!!!!!" "beyond compare....." "fabulous......" "outstanding......." Nice that others did though! (We were there about 15 minutes after they opened for the day.)

I don't know what's the matter with me, but we ate fish tacos at SOBO 2 weeks ago, and I can't honestly rave about them the way others have. I'm not saying the tacos & shrimp cakes we ordered weren't tasty, but I was expecting them to be much better after reading the comments here. Maybe we hit them on an off day.....

    Tofino

So.....if someone were to go to Tofino in the next few weeks, what places would be open for dinner? Are there enough choices for several nights worth of meals, or should we wait until the winter 'blahs" have passed?
  19. Thank you Barolo for your Island suggestions. It's enough to get me thinking of heading down there right now, & picking up some sausages & cheese for lunch! It's been too long since my last trip. Maybe I'll also pick up some seafood for dinner & fixings for salad & some Terra bread.....&......
  20. poohg628...we've already had our Thanksgiving, but happy Thanksgiving to you & yours!
  21. We're taking out a guest who loves a good fish taco. Any ideas on the best place to order them in the Vancouver area?
