  1. Anything with Jell-O in it. Jell-O is vile. I always regard the bringers of the Jell-O with a bit of suspicion. It's obvious that they're out to get me. I mean, why else would they bring it? Does anyone actually like that stuff? *gag* And any pre-packaged stuff that is made "special" for the holidays. Red & green M&Ms, red & green Oreos, etc.
  2. OK, now I'm glad I stayed home.
  3. Sorry I missed out on all the fun yesterday. I was enjoying some much-needed sleeping in. I've turned into a real insomniac lately -- happy just to get more than 3 hours of sleep in a row. And I missed some of Elyse's cookies??? Sheesh! I've yet to try these puppies. So, should we start another thread for the Sunday Afternoon Drinking Club?
  4. I just managed to extract myself from bed (late night last night). Snow, Saddam...all sorts of interesting stuff goin' on this morning. I think I'm going to go back to bed in about 5 minutes, so it looks like I'm going to take a raincheck for this afternoon's non-BC funfest. Have a ginger ale for me, will ya?
  5. Oooo...I think I can make it after all! The holiday thingie I'm going to starts at 3:30 and is only a few blocks away. I may have 2 or 3 friends in tow.
  6. This weekend has turned into a big old mess of stuff to do. My old roommate from DC is coming into town, so between entertaining her, getting my holiday shopping finished up (er, well...started anyway) and a friend's last minute holiday get-together sunday afternoon, I don't htink I'll be able to join you guys.
  7. A lot of northerners eat pork and sauer kraut on new year's day. I believe it's a German tradition. Close enough though.
  8. I'm not in NJ, but I've got some mulled wine going. It's my first try. It sure smells good.
  9. A tasty treat? A big hunk of mac & cheese, battered and deep fried. that sounds pretty good. i've got some frozen mac and cheese, which i'd normally pan fry. perhaps i'll reconsider. Oh yes. This stuff was incredible. And the battered and deep fried Snickers bar. Well, words just can't describe... P.S. I was so disappointed that I didn't have my camera with me. I plan to go back soon and snap pics of all this fried goodness.

  11. Oh yum! Can I come over?
  12. no fucking way. I hate to break this to you, but maybe you haven't noticed that beef prices are skyrocketing. It's just not going to be possible anymore to get good meat (burger) in Manh for $8. Good burgers will simply elude us. The only exception, IMHO, are the smallish burgers like PM's, for example. You mean burger places don't have tasting menus with lil sizes?
  13. Went to the Chip Shop (Brooklyn) last night. Had diiep fried mac & cheese, deep fried fish & chips and a deep fried Snickers bar for dessert. It was heavenly. Slept in till noon today, got up and made a spinach and fontina omlette, some wheat toast, a pseudo-mimosa (OJ and seltzer), and some vanilla hazelnut coffee. Gonna watch movies and do some baking today, then I'm sure I'll get antsy enough to want to head out tonight. I think a friendly bowling tournament will be in order.
  14. It's like potato chip shortbread. Mmmmmmmm!
  15. I odn't do beer, but I'm up for some kick-ass fries.
  16. I eat quiche. And I like it. I tend to make the standard spinach/broccoli/mushroom quiche, but I don't use a crust. I bet goat cheese and roasted red pepper would make for a good quiche. Maybe a bacon and cheddar quiche with crunchy hashbrowns for a crust. I'm determined to find a way to incorporate french toast into a quiche.
  17. yes. it's not Burger Club without elyse. Then what difference does it make if we go somewhere else then?
  18. Hmmm... Do we really have to go somewhere else? My 2 friends who were planning to join us wanted to come because it was Blue Smoke. They probably won't come if we go somewhere else.

    Chili Variety

Isn't that the classic "Cincinatti Chili?" No. It's the cinnamon (gag) that makes chili Cincinnati style, not the pasta.

I'm not sure I've ever actually eaten a side with chili. Is cheese considered a side? Sour cream? Fritos? Sometimes, if I don't have enough left to make a decent meal, I'll dump it over pasta.

    Chili Variety

How timely..l.I just got home and was about to whip up a batch of chili to have for tomorrow. Here's what tonight's version will be: ground beef cubed sirloin chorizo crushed tomatoes diced tomatoes jalapenos onion garlic chili powder cumin oregano cayenne cocoa powder
  22. Uh oh. Now I'm lost. Could we do it the next week, or will everyone be too busy getting ready for Xmas? The 13th is just about the only day I have free until after new years. So if we have to do it another day, I won't be able to make it.
