I've edited the above link to give eGullet a commission if anyone buys it. Please use eGullet commissioned links when purchasing from Amazon.com.

I love Dom DeLouis' Eat This! One of my few cookbooks that is almost falling apart. Love Dinah Shore's recipe for moussaka in it.

A Flying Saucer is an ice cream sandwich created by Carvel. Go here and click "Novelties" for a picture.

I doubt they're regional, but they also don't appear in the freezer aisle, since they aren't frozen when you buy them. I think I recall seeing them in the aisle with the non-refridgerated juices, like near the juice boxes. Either there or check the snack aisle. Good luck.

Do they have to be in Westwood, or are you willing to travel to neighboring towns?

Here's the eGullet thread about Zen. -
Here's what Jason and I posted about Zen, in another thread: Corrections: 1) We were at the Livingston location of Gary's Wine (off Rt 10), not Madison. 2) That location is not a Gary's Wine anymore, it is now called Wine Legend, but it doesn't look like they changed much about the store. Phone: (973) 992-4441 (Here's a link to Gary's website). 3) The Japanese restaurant is Zen Japanese Cuisine, it was one of the best sushi experiences we've had recently. (Address: 277 Eisenhower Pkwy, Livingston, NJ 07039, Phone: (973) 533-6828)

Sorry we didn't respond to your request for ordering advice in time, Curlz, but the "Taste of Fink" is what I always recommend to newbies at the counter, so you did good.

I know exactly what you mean. I usually ask vendors with whom I am not familiar if they grew the produce themselves. However when things aren't in season here, it's nice to still have the variety, if the quality is better than supermarket stuff. Frequently, we buy products other than produce at Farmer's Markets, simply because it is local stuff, like baked goods, meats & cheese.

Have you done a search yet? Click here for my initial search. There's already a lot of information out there if you look first. If you have questions about specific places or types of cuisines, that information would be helpful too.

I like the Englewood market, but I haven't been to Ridgewood to compare. Hasbrooke Heights isn't too far from you, you may want to check that one out. Ditto for Rivervale, but I haven't been to either of those. I've been to Teaneck, that one is pretty good too. Like you noted the main thing is to get there early, at least during the first hour or two before stuff starts to sell out.

Here's a link to the USDA Farmers Market page for NJ. The link has additional information, such as contact phone numbers and/or email addresses, in addition to which markets accept WIC coupons. It is organized in alphabetical order by town, as opposed to our by day order. If there are any additional markets that were not listed on the USDA site, please let me know to add them to our list. As I was reviewing the list compared to last year, I noticed that many of the markets have cut back their hours slightly, frequently cutting off the last hour. Plus, a few have changed locations. So, be sure to double-check the list for your favorite market. I don't think any of the people commenting on this dish at C46 have seen the raw vegetable. Cooked, it looks like most other cooked leafy greans, only with a red jus.

OK, I haven't been to Bill & Harry's for years. Not since Harry Chu separated himself from B&H. His restaurants are Mr. Chu (Rt 10, E Hanover) and Noodle Chu (Rt 46 Parsippany) and we preferred both of them over Bill & Harry's.
-
Did Bill & Harry's move? I thought it was next to a tile store.
-
You can only buy them blanched? I can only seem to find them fried in olive oil and salted. Very addictive.

I like Sono in Millburn and Nikko up Rt. 10. -
Doh! I was thinking that people were bringing food to help comfort the sick person. Personally, when I have a cold I want Chinese Chicken Corn Soup.

I feel a sense of forboding from that last installment. I wonder what the mole man did?

Wow, Steve, very beautiful wedding cake. Inspired me to look at your site again, you've added a lot more pictures haven't you? I especially liked the idea (and cakes) of using cakes as table centerpieces. Was there an additional wedding cake for the cutting ceremony? Did people serve themselves of the centerpieces for dessert?

Even at non-passover times, we can find glass bottles of sugar Coke at Mexican bodegas. Of course, this is in NE NJ, I don't know about NC.

That's what I was going to say!

Although it is fabulous that so many people are bringing your mom food, it seems that many of them are not taking her conditiion into account. Isn't crab imperial, King Ranch casserole, tetrazzini, chicken parm, etc., full of fat, cream, cheese, etc.? For someone who just had a triple bypass, I'd try to bring heart healthy items, like all the women who brought salad, veggies, tuscan soup, etc. Send her our best wishes.

what type of mussels did you have? were they the black ones or the green new zealand? did you have a long wait? They were medium in size, black shell, cream to orange flesh. I assume PEI. We arrived ~7:30 on Sunday night. There was no wait for our 2 top, although there was a party of 5 or 6 waiting outside for a larger table to free up.
