  1. That's exactly what I was thinking, Katie.
  2. Our own Fat Guy and Ellen Shapiro visited Bobolink Dairy & Bakeyard recently. It is dairy farm hoping to "become an important center for promoting grass-based, sustainable, profitable, family-sized dairy farming as an alternative to the industrial, confinement-based farms that typified the dairy industry in the late 20th Century" run by eGullet member, Curdnerd, aka Jonathan & Nina White. They offer their cheese via mail order, farmers markets in NJ & NY and on Saturdays & Sundays at the farm. Here is the thread from the NJ forum with lots of pictures Ellen took at the farm.
  3. I don't think so.
  4. Not a deli, but Fink makes some great cole slaw and potato salad both for $3.75 per pint.
  5. Jaymes, I love you. Really. But "Pigstock"??? That's like sticking "-gate" at the end of every scandal. Hasn't there been plenty of "-stock"s already?
  6. So did you feel the cheese was better melted on top, or did you long for it to be melded into the filling?
  7. OK, but everything you mention, except the lamb, we had at the first dinner at China 46. I didn't want to repeat the menu. I also didn't want to have two dishes stuffed into sesame buns. Next time, no Ruby Pork (sorry tommy).
  8. There's a good description of Sammy's Ye Olde Cider Mill, Menham, in this thread. Oh, here it is:
  9. I can't draw, but I was thinking something with Gully, but a pig in his belly instead of the computer mouse, would be kind of interesting.
  10. Gee, Steven. Tell us how you really feel. BTW - the ordering was done by me, tommy & jhlurie. If Jason had been involved there would have been no fish casserole.
  11. My credit card feels your pain. But, it's so good, I'm also hearing the siren's call. Did you tell them we sent you? They're supposed to call us when they are making the mozzarella so we can go and take pictures. BTW, that homemade butter is clarified, nearly 100% butterfat. I melted it and there was barely any foam and no liquid that wasn't golden.
  12. Of course it would be cheaper. You're talking about going to a regular Sunday Buffet at a good restaurant. (BTW, there's also a Moghul in Morristown.) While I'm sure they have excellent food, it is not the same as setting up a special banquet, is it? I've been to the one in Morristown, and they have a lot of interesting and unique dishes that separate it from most Indian restaurants. If I were setting up an event there, I would want to include many of those dishes. May I suggest that you pick a date that's good for you? Whoever can and wants will come. If you leave it up in the air the way you have in this thread the planning can go on and on for a long time before a date is set.
  13. Oh no, I think you missed something here. Unless you are 100% sure that it was fish skin, I think what you are describing is the cellophane noodle, which is an integral part of this soup, according to Ed, eGullet's Chinese Cuisine Coordinator. The broth was so good, even Jason ate it, and he usually avoids most things fishy. As I wrote above, I agree with you about the scallion pancake, they were good, but "deluxe"?
  14. We're thinking of doing a "make your own milkshake bar" for dessert. We could bring ice cream & milk & syrups and sherbet & seltzer (for a Sherbet Cooler) and our Hamilton Beach Drink Master. We would need room in the freezer and an outlet. How does that sound?
  15. Why do you think it necessary for Kaga to be subtitled? I'll admit, I'm lazy; I preferred it in the beginning when he was dubbed too.
  16. I've sent him a note asking him to take a look at this thread, but keep in mind he is busy running a restaurant. I'm sure he'll check in soon.

    Lobster Bisque

So, did you make your bisque?
  18. Jon shared some of his stash with us. They are really good. I generally prefer to buy almonds raw and toast them myself, but these aren't overly greasy or salty. The flavor is unique, somewhere between almond and macadamia.
  19. They weren't high on pot when they created this, but may has well have been.
  20. No, because she spells her name wrong. (She actually spells it Rachael)
  21. Exactly.
  22. It's acceptable for them to run their business anyway they see fit. It is also acceptable for you to leave after hearing about this "policy." Then they'd have two empty tables, instead of one. You should have shared the old expression with her, "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." Although in their case it was two in the hand.
  23. Wasn't that Burger King?
  24. Went to 13 pages on the 13th. On my screen, it's only 10 pages long. You guys need to adjust your Board Settings (click My Controls->Board Settings (on the left), set forums/topics to 40 per page).
  25. When making deviled eggs, buy the small or medium eggs. They are cuter when finished and more of a one bite hors d'oeuvre than larger eggs. Deviled Eggs non-recipe Hard cook eggs, peel and slice in half lengthwise. Push yolks through a sieve and mix with a little mayo & mustard until creamy. Fill whites with yolk mixture and sprinkle with paprika.
