    Dinner 2024

Elk roast with potatoes, carrots, onions and mushroom gravy.
  4. I would love to have one! Have found 2 for sale and the first I waited too long to purchase and it was gone (at a very reasonable sum!). The other was at auction and an eye-opening bid of several hundred more than I was willing to part with. I picked up an old Le Creuset piece for $10 at the same auction so not all was lost.
  5. Yours and mine must be kin somewhere along the line!! My father has always joked that the smoke alarm is my mothers kitchen timer. I called my mother a couple years ago and when she answered, the alarm was going off. I asked what she was cooking as burnt offering this time as I could hear the "timer", a few uncharacteristic 4 letter words from her and she hung up on me.
  6. Ive been GF for a long time and in addition to the above, use McCormick GF gravy packets. (Horrors I know!) They are available on Amazon and I use just a pinch at times. The one issue with the gravy packets and the cornstarch- they can be weird reheated. Texture wise they stay a bit thick/gloppy when reheated. If you are pre-making your braise, stick with the potato starch/instant potato, you will likely be unhappy to serve the reheated braise with the cornstarch. And if not out of place, cream cheese is a fabulous thickener.
  7. Yes please! I am a commercial fishermans daughter and it goes back many generations in my fathers family. Water and fish slime are in my blood ❤️, I spent many a day on the deck and mending nets.

    Dinner 2024

Quick first night home back from vacation dinner- rice, chicken thigh and a root veg medley with parsnips, onion, sweet potato, carrot.
  11. I am the opposite- I want ham and deviled eggs and baked beans full of smokey bacon and a ridiculous pineapple casserole thing for the ham...... Stepdaughter will be with us Christmas Eve and since she doesnt get fish/seafood in her home, its been requested I make something from the ocean. (Ive been pouring thru recipes and nothing is sparking creativity. (Halibut chowder is an option. Last year was clam chowder.)).

    Lunch 2024

Wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun. Partner did animal style which included grilled onions and sauce.
  14. 1app, 2 adult beverages, 2 of the taco trios, 1 dessert was 90 without tip. Quite reasonable. And do get the mushroom taco- literally the highlight food wise. We did Freelys one night, nice Flatbread, gluten free even. Nice spot! Wallpaper in bathroom is a hoot!

    Dinner 2024

Unless the bear was living on fish, it will be quite mild in flavor. This harvest (2 bears) was our first and decided to grind and cut 50/50 with ground pork shoulder and make into sausage-the fore mentioned spicy Italian, and a mild breakfast sausage. I had about 3 pounds left of chunks that I made a stew with which was amazing. I would do something really simple if this is your first bear meat. I like the idea of meatballs- perhaps with ground veal (if you can get it) since its milder than ground beef and a gentle hand when it comes to seasoning them.
  21. I feel quite the same about holiday meals, be grateful to have a seat at the table. I ask guests what they are allergic to, hate, love. aside from that, they can make their own meal in their own house if they want to dictate whats on the table.

    Dinner 2024

Last night was bear pasta. Spicy Italian black bear/pork sausage, onion, mushroom Raos marinara over Rummo gf pasta. (Mozzarella hidden between the two). And Brazi bites cheese balls. Couple nights ago was on my own for dinner so prepared chicken curry that I added shrimp to.
  23. Turns out I'll be alone for the day (Partner going to his family) and I am working so.... to be determined. The only thing that is set in stone- there will NOT be turkey on my plate (thank heaven!). Im guessing either wings, curry of some fashion or a Yellow Pea Soup from Hank Shaw that I positively LOVE and partner doesnt. (it has ham hocks and rutabaga, there is nothing to not love!)

    Dinner 2024

Elk roast done in the oven with carrots, onions, potatoes. Gravy with mushroom and onion. lubed up
  25. Vastly different ideas on what equals dinner with guests! No one would starve if Partner was left to his own devices, and none of our friends would blink twice other than to ask if I had gone on a trip.
