  1. How about the Villa Gourmet Deli? It's not exactly in a strip mall, but that place, next to good ol' Trader Joe's, a Jenny Craig, The (ghettismo) Honey Baked Ham, some golf store, a rundown Iranian book store, a liquor store, maybe even a day care... It has all the characteristics of Rockville Pike, in fact it's even on 355

( aka Wisconsin Ave. in Bethesda)...

It's one of the saddest shopping centers I've ever seen and across the street, fur coat shops, to mark the official border of Chevy Chase (20815).

Anyway, I did this thing where I went to the gym (worked up a big hunger) and got carry out from Moby Dick's (next to Stromboli's) and then got the extras at the Villa Gourmet Deli. The place is cheap!! Dolma is some of the best I've had...and they do have beer and wine, in case you get thirsty. Does anyone know this place? Good takeout, I swear, and it's more than dolma.

I miss Scmaldi's, though, or whatever it was called over by pathetic G.C. Murphy, now 2 Amy's vacant cement back yard.

  2. I don't have anything to add regarding the restaurant itself, but I just had to say, again, how much I enjoyed DonRocks's concise review of RM.

I loved it so much I shared it with others (credited back to this thread, of course).

I still can't say something 'sucks' without thinking 'ducks, bucks, monster trucks' immediately afterwards.

I think he did say 'why' he thought the place sucked, and he just happens to have a very thorough way of expressing said suckage.  good for him.

Cakewench, your avatar looks a little like ventworms!

I love this thread too. 'Sucks' has been reiterated in my vocabualry. There are many levels of suckiness. If it sucks, sucks, sucks it best not cost a lot!! Sucks my wallet.

    SUCKS

  3. East Potomac Park? Then it'd have to be a doobie picnic. I run around there fairly often and the rule seems to be: If you're out of the car, you're fishing. If you're in the car, you're smoking a fattie. We're going to need a lot of donuts...

Dude, if you're running, you're out of the car, right?

  4. I'll bet she has cookies for $1.25. The best you can do if you don't have change is to apologize and decline the transaction.

You mean those hand-decorated elephants with the long eyelashes might be under $2? Oye Dios Mio.

Hey - - Does anyone to go on a boozey picnic with me in the park this afternoon? It seems like a nice day. Maybe that park over by National Airport...

  5. Possible solutions:

1)Sell the frickin' doughnuts in boxes of 12

2)Install an ATM machine that dispenses fives

3)Get a larger bank in the cash register

    4)Accept debit cards

    5)Take checks

6)Post a discrete sign on the door requesting small denomination bills

7)Change the name to Amernick's Exact Change Bakery

Or we could just go to Nam-Viet Pho-79 at 11:30 when they open, have pho, drop a twenty, get back $12 and change after tip...and then go buy the donuts.

  6. Ginger Reef has a lot of work to do in their kitchen, though the fruit-based drinks can sometimes be fabulous (and sometimes not).  This may not be cool runnings, mon.  I lament that Hibiscus Café is gone forever.

Oh...Hibiscus Cafe--that was the one under the bridge in Georgetown, right? I loved that place--went there for a fabulous 22nd birthday. When/why did they close?

    filed for Chapter 11

  7. "Scotch egg

A hard-cooked egg that is coated with sausage, dipped into beaten egg, rolled in bread crumbs and deep-fried. Scotch eggs are halved or quartered lengthwise and may be served hot or cold, usually as an appetizer."

Thanks, my friend. I could use one of these guys; sounds scrumptious!

  8. The bar serves food, including some really yummy Scotch eggs that my friend had. Their fries were perfectly good as well. It has about 8 beers on tap, including a house amber which was very good, and a good selection of scotches.

    233 2nd Street NW

    Edited to include web site

Tell me more about Scotch eggs. Never heard of those. Can I eat them at night time?
