I read on DC's alcoholic bev board site that Le Paradou had applied for a licence to have a garden patio. Anyone know if it's up and running yet (assuming that it is approved)? Would so love to go there on a crisp summer night, if we get one of those again...
Actually here's what ABRA decided back in March:
Adjudications
March 17, 2004
Adjudication Issues for the Newspaper
8. The Board decided that placards should be placed at Le Paradon, LLC, t/a Le Paradon, 601 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Class CR, to allow for community input on the licensee’s request for a summer garden, with an outdoor seating capacity for 58 persons.
( I guess I should get back to work now )

Frankly, it would be my hope that someone at Outback corporate would read this and do something about the lack of quality control and virtual prostitution of the franchise name in Centreville, VA. It is THAT bad.
They really maybe probably don't care....
Well, I must say, I'm impressed. alporcini from
Tampa, eh?
The radio ads could be a little less annoying, no?

Awh, you guys don't love your Dads!
So, I'm headed uo to NYC on Tuesday, with Dad...
It's a reception for gallery opening of his
...and it's Restaurant Week up there(and he doesn't know this).
It seems Dads just like to chill on Sundays, you know?
I think Father's Day should be on like a Thursday. Isn't Sunday for rest and sports and nothingness .
If you think of good breakfast options let me know (in DC that is, but NYC suggestions for Tuesday are welcome too). No fancy shit.

No interest in some nice Dickey's custard? I already had mine today!
Wear your sunglassses out there.
It's bright and the air feels like oily.

How about Coppi's on U St? There's more than pizza -- though that's really quite good too -- on the menu now that they've closed the more-ambitious Vigorelli in Cleveland Park and are putting all their energy into the 14th St. place. Plus, with the Tour de France coming up, there's no more appropriate place to hang and check out the pictures of il campionissimo himself.
Well at least in here there's some correlation with the Italian biking theme.
".... Rollo is also an angry young clown and he'll be damned if he's gonna wear Lycra or care about what the metallurgical content of frame tubing is, or what kind of stinkin' rear derailleur is missing from his bike. Rollo is all about the bigger, scarier picture. If you think Rollo could be your buddy, then he might just be your next bike."
Not Afraid of Clown? Get Rollo!

A critical piece this week on Adega Wine Cellars and Cafe :
"But I ask him, and you, too: Which would you rather have? Plastic plates adorned with thoughtfully prepared, sometimes very good food, or a restaurant that is itself plastic, with canned atmosphere and dull, generic dishes? "
We want the canned atmosphere and plastic people...and mini-vans everywhere! We want corporate offices in Dayton, Ohio and lots of 800 numbers to voice complaints! Not! Fine, how about Riedel crystal then?
Anyone have the burger yet?
"And the burger, a half-pound of meat soaked in a cabernet reduction, topped with aioli, and nestled between two exquisitely dimpled slices of rosemary flatbread, crosses the line into too upscale for its own good. Though all sandwiches come with excellent kettle-cooked chips, I’d spring for the eggplant fries, a frequent special: a mound of virtually greaseless sticks of deep-fried eggplant sprinkled with chopped parsley and Parmesan, with a small cup of marinara for dipping."
I hope to God that the big Washington City Paper delivery truck drops loads and loads of papers to those swanky new movie theaters in Silver Spring. Show me 'em stacked to the ceiling, and no using those papers as shelter against the torrential rain!
Todd's right, this is an important place, plasticware or not...
Go. Go.

I ordered some sort of spicy seafood pasta dish that was watery and flavorless. 1 mussle, 2 shrimp, and a handful of those teeny-tiny "scallops", thrown in for good measure
Sounds like a viscid mess!

They are sssllloooowwwww there, and often a bit surly.
This is related to War on Terror, I think...
Used to not be that bad.

If you want to stray down to M Street between 18th and 19th there's a good Indian/Persian/kebob store front called House of Kebob, the all you can eat lunch buffet, eat in and take out, is $6.95.
And next door to House of Kebob is Malasyia Koptium.
Wait. So that's not Moby Dick's (House...)?

Sushi Ko. Sushi Ko. Sushi Ko. I am completely sold on this place.
Indeed. This thread explains why Sushi-Ko is the place.
Yes, I fully agree.
My feeling:
You must take a seat in front of Koji before you can even begin to further critique.

OK, but that is in the context of a "private function." I'm not sure that this disposes of the question of whether a customer partaking of the regular service in a restaurant in VA amidst other customers may bring in his/her own bottle of vino. Maybe I'm just being too literal...
Good Luck, Buddy! Ever take the LSATs?
-
Q: Can a restaurant conduct a private function and allow participants to bring in their own alcoholic beverages
A: Yes, only in a private room that is separate from the public. If the establishment has only one room then the entire restaurant must be closed to the general public.

The important thing is that we know Cosi cares about us and our little ones. They're looking out for the children at Cosi, they really are...
-
I think Rico, the Border Collie, would be a better barista than they ones at the Cosi on 15th and K. I mean, dogs wag their tails and aim to please. That bread, which I used to like, has been tainted by the bad service. It smells just like Subway's now...

I'll be at the old irish brogue in great falls for bloomsday. good food, good company, good times.
I second this motion.
That place is great!
I could never do it, though, I'd die driving home on those dark winding roads...
it's not like there's Metro out there.
Good news:
I don't have a car nor do I drink and drive
What about the Irish Inn at Glen Echo? I know nothing about that place now...
I knew it better when it was "Travs" or whatever it was called. I was like four or so when they closed, but I remember that pirates and sailors seemed to go there. I'll stop deviating from the topic now.
I'm Irish, so I can just talk to myself and run around a field or something...

Catch Kliman tomorrow morning on The WMAL Morning News
Judging by the little plug here on WMAL's website, I'm thinking he might talk about
Adega Wine Cellars and Cafe in Silver Spring.
Me, I'll be awake and primping for the gym tomorrow morning at 6:38 a.m.

Right along the same corridor (well not in an alley, but close...) is Moby Dicks House of Kabab. I think it may actually be N Street between 18th and 19th.
That's a good cheap lunch.
i hope you are a chick, because they get treated much better at moby dick than men do.
I am a man, but I have super nice umbrella from Burberry's and pretty eyes.

Congrats, guys!
Here's Richard Nalley's piece (July 2004 Food & Wine):
"Nectar
WASHINGTON, DC
Every wine on Nectar's list is available by the bottle, half-bottle and glass, which is not only a fun idea, but in Nectar's case probably also a necessary one. Toe-in-the-water sampling can be an appealing strategy at a place that offers no Bordeaux, no Burgundy, no Chardonnay and very few familiar names. A recent list included a Müller-Thurgau from Baden, Germany, a Primitivo from Puglia, Italy, and a vin de paille from Jura, France. "I want to force customers to think, and to drink, outside the box," says restaurant director Jarad Slipp. "But these aren't just quirky wines for the sake of weirdness—they stand on their own." Slipp chooses the 2002 Adelsheim Tocai Friulano ($57) from Oregon to pair with chef Jamison Blankenship's scallops with haricots verts and curry-spiced chorizo. "It has a lovely floral quality and the body to stand up to the curry spices in the chorizo," he explains. NECTAR'S BEST DEAL 2002 Calvinor Torrontés ($29) "Ever tasted a wine from Uruguay? This one has a juicy brightness and a little spritziness that reminds me of a Vinho Verde," says Slipp."

I'm still looking forward to eating at Ray's, in spite of this:
I'm sure you could find a similar report on many good restaurants though. I found similar reports for Maestro, for example. Yeah, I got too much time on my hands...
Time to Raise the Stakes, I guess...

That's sort of how I feel. Why be greedy? Why search and search for something when you already have it. Marriages fail this way...
I mean, if I get to Makoto, great...but I just as much (or more) want to repeatedly visit Sushi-Ko.
Sara, was the ice cream place Max's?
