Yesterday we lost two of our six members of vacationing party to their need to return to work, so it's just my husband, niece and nephew for the rest of the trip. We were only moderately hungry yesterday (and did not feel like driving) so went to a casual place near our rental house, the Pearl http://www.wellfleetpearl.com clams casino fried calamari avocado but with housemate chips salad with strawberries and goat cheese pasta with creamy pesto and chicken oyster po boy We are going to Provincetown today.

I am on the Outer Cape now and thought I would add my dining experiences to this thread. It's insanely crowded out here right now so we won't be traveling other than on foot until after the weekend, but I'll be out in Provincetown a couple of times and will stop in to Pop and Dutch. I remember seeing it last year but we did not go in. We came out Thursday night to beat the bridge traffic and stayed two nights at a hotel in Eastham before checking into our usual rental house in Wellfleet. On Friday we had breakfast at the Fairway https://www.fairwaycapecod.com My niece and nephew both had pancakes My husband got the Flying Pigwich. Ironically they forgot to put the bacon on it! That was fine because my meal came with too much bacon so I gave him some of mine I had the Nanny's potato pancakes with poached eggs We were expecting more members of our group to join us that evening so decided to just go back to the same place for dinner. I'm lazy like that sometimes. My husband and I shared an order of fish tacos. They were huge. I could have been done eating after this. My niece and nephew got mozzarella sticks I ordered linguini with clams for dinner. It was enough for five people! I prefer smaller portions. My husband got lobster mac and cheese. Again, too much food My niece and nephew opted for calzones

It's striped bass season so that's what I am hoping to grill for the 4th. I'll post about my restaurant meals in the New England dining thread.

Back from a two week vacation in which there was not enough home cooking (other than breakfast) and too much restaurant food. I am afraid to get on the scale. Last night's fish share was hake. I made a coconut curry fish recipe from the book Made in India and from the same book, green beans with mustard seeds, sesame seeds, and ginger.

Unfortunately it is a little overcast today but the view is still nice and the egg sandwich is still tasty

I am now at a vacation house on the other side of the island with arguably a better view. I will post a picture of it with my breakfast tomorrow

Curried chicken salad on organic locally grown greens. There is only one farm on this island mostly greens and herbs but occasionally tomatoes are available. And of course local fruits. Local mango is in this salad. and for my picky eaters who turn up their noses at curried chicken, cheese, crackers and fruit. Plus some leftover steak from the other night.

I spent the Memorial Day weekend out in Wellfleet on Cape Cod. The weather was gorgeous (except for today, it is pouring today!). I did not do much cooking, but we ate out a lot. The Beachcomber is probably the most famous restaurant out here. It is not at all fancy, always extremely crowded, and the crowd can be a little rough (aka drunk!). We go for lunch because the scene at night is not always teen appropriate. They do a nice job with their fryer. One result of being in a weekly fish share is that I end up with lots of little packages of fish in my freezer: tail pieces, or maybe there was just too much fish to eat that week. Last night I took out most of the packets and ground them up with cilantro, toasted coriander, ginger, garlic, cayenne, scallions, egg, panko, salt and pepper and made crispy fish cakes. They were served on a salad with cucumbers, pickled grated carrots and a spicy chili mayo. The recipe was from a new cookbook I picked up called num pang. Apparently num pang is a sandwich shop in NYC. The fish cakes were quite good, and cleared out my fish bits section of my freezer.

Yesterday's family meal: fish and chips, fries, onion rings, and slaw. One of the few meals that everyone eats!

Hahaha! I made my husband hold the plate with his hand flat like a waiter so I could get the water view in there. It is an egg, cheese and apple sausage sandwich. This morning's breakfast: huevos rancheros. No flying saucer effect this morning as husband was still sleeping when I made this.
