Roasted oysters with tabasco lime butter Panino with tomato chutney, arugula pesto, and aged cheddar Pulled pork sandwich Spinach salad with smoked chicken Chocolate cake Chocolate mousse Salted caramel tart
  7. I spent the Memorial Day weekend out in Wellfleet on Cape Cod. The weather was gorgeous (except for today, it is pouring today!). I did not do much cooking, but we ate out a lot. The Beachcomber is probably the most famous restaurant out here. It is not at all fancy, always extremely crowded, and the crowd can be a little rough (aka drunk!). We go for lunch because the scene at night is not always teen appropriate. They do a nice job with their fryer. Fishwich Fried clams Steamer clams Oyster po boy And from the raw bar, sesame seared tuna
  8. Croissant stuffed with scrambled eggs and bacon jam
  9. One result of being in a weekly fish share is that I end up with lots of little packages of fish in my freezer: tail pieces, or maybe there was just too much fish to eat that week. Last night I took out most of the packets and ground them up with cilantro, toasted coriander, ginger, garlic, cayenne, scallions, egg, panko, salt and pepper and made crispy fish cakes. They were served on a salad with cucumbers, pickled grated carrots and a spicy chili mayo. The recipe was from a new cookbook I picked up called num pang. Apparently num pang is a sandwich shop in NYC. The fish cakes were quite good, and cleared out my fish bits section of my freezer.

  11. Yesterday's family meal: fish and chips, fries, onion rings, and slaw. One of the few meals that everyone eats!
  12. toasted pan de mie with strawberry jam
  13. Hahaha! I made my husband hold the plate with his hand flat like a waiter so I could get the water view in there. It is an egg, cheese and apple sausage sandwich. This morning's breakfast: huevos rancheros. No flying saucer effect this morning as husband was still sleeping when I made this.
  14. Breakfast with a Cape Cod view
  15. Some things from Sunday's group dinner. An orzo salad with wax beans and cucumbers in a tzatsiki-like dressing a watermelon, pickled onion and feta salad a nectarine and black bean salsa there was also grilled mahi mahi, roasted potatoes (for the non-orzo eaters), grilled bread (for the non-orzo AND non-potato eaters) and grilled sausages (for the non-fish eaters), but I did not get pictures of any of that. It gets a little hectic when food for 10 starts coming off the grill.
  16. Bacon egg and cheese sandwich
  17. As the weather starts to warm up, I am experimenting with pre-dinner cocktails on Saturdays. Yesterday I made blueberry margaritas. Overall tasty but ultimately too sweet for my liking. I only drank a quarter of mine before getting bored. Dinner was just burgers. I made beef for most people, but also made the Serious Eats black bean burger recipe: This recipe calls for roasting the beans before making the burgers. I really liked the resulting texture. Sometimes bean burgers are too mushy, but not this one.
  18. More office toaster oven cooking: sweet potatoes, black beans, salsa verde, chicken, Monterey Jack cheese and scallions in a tortilla.
  19. last night I made a Melissa Clark recipe from the New York Times for a ginger-garlic chicken with rice. I cooked the rice in the stock I poached the chicken in. We had some chilled gai lan with garlic with it.
  20. Naan pizza made in my little office toaster oven
  21. Last night's dinner: cedar plank grilled Faroe Island salmon, baked sweet potato, and braised green beans, summer squash and tomatoes.
  22. @dcarch, at least the pot landed meat side up! Still salvageable in my book, though I am sure the loss of the liquid was sad. Yesterday's fish share was flounder and Faroe Island salmon. I made the flounder into fish tacos. I would have preferred corn tortillas but the store only had flour ones yesterday.
  23. @huiray, thanks for the info on the blood clams. I am going out to Wellfleet in two weeks and will check to see if they have any for sale. They gave me a refund on a gift card, no questions asked. The rain let up enough that I was able to grill yesterday. I grilled some pita bread, and some chicken, and some steaks. I only got a picture of the steaks I also made a greek salad, and a quinoa salad with chickpeas and spinach
  24. @huiray, I spend a good amount of time on Cape Cod, and those clams are sometimes available in the fish market I like out there. I also find lots of their shells on the beach. The fishmonger told me that most of them are exported to Asia, they are not really popular here because of their bloody appearance. I have not bought any yet because I always go to the market with my sister and she is squicked out by their appearance. How is their flavor as compared to, say, littlenecks? The other night I bought some crabmeat to try and replicate a crab linguini recipe I had at a restaurant. Supposedly it was fresh Maryland crabmeat. Supposedly. Yeah, no. This crabmeat was SO fishy! Totally inedible and ruined my dinner. I had to throw it out and make everyone omelets. I am going to the store where I bought it and asking for my money back this morning. The other food markets offer double your money back if you buy fish or meat that is off, so I will be interested to see how this market responds to my request (WEGMAN'S ). I don't want double my money back, but I spent $50 for this crappy crab, so I would at least like some recompense. Dinner was much better on Thursday. I made a Mexican chicken soup. Very tasty.
  25. @mm84321 and @huiray, your morel dishes look so delicious. I love morels but they are hard to come by around here. I made a couple of thin crust pizzas last night. Plain old cheese-basil: and white clam
