Vegetable stew made with what I could salvage out of my fridge: a zucchini, some scallions, a couple of ears of corn and some cherry tomatoes, basil, some tomato puree from the freezer and a couple of poached eggs. The toast has garlic butter on it. I really need to go food shopping.

Another recipe from Made in India: Fresh spinach with paneer. Very tasty. I served it with some naan. No photo of that because it was just the store-bought stuff.

Ha that happened to us too, in 2011 I think. We were the last plane to land before the storm caused the airport to close. It was wild when we got up the next morning: our room faced the harbor and it did not seem like anything was happening. Then we went to the ocean side of the hotel and the wind and waves were crazy! Luckily the storm blew out quickly and the rest of our vacation was lovely. Light photos from yesterday. We walked on the beach trail down to my favorite beach, Warwick Long Bay, with the intention of coming back up on the road and having lunch at the South Shore Swizzle Inn. Unfortunately we ended up walking in the wrong direction and ended up back at our resort haha. Grilled shrimp wrap from the Beach Cabana: Dinner was at the Waterlot Inn, one of the oldest restaurants on the island. It's been around in some form or another since 1610. We shared a tart made of local Bermuda onions for our starter. For mains I got the fish sampler, which was tuna, salmon, and grouper. My husband had a waygu steak. This is an a la carte restaurant so for sides we shared some sautéed spinach and truffled mac and cheese. Too full for dessert, though they did give us some chocolate covered sea salt caramels. They are in the fridge for later. Everything was tasty but don't go here if you are on a budget. The bill was punishingly expensive.

Yesterday breakfast was fruit and cottage cheese. Boring and no photo. Lunch was at the Cabana Grill, a wahoo sandwich on raisin bread with slaw and tartar sauce. Pretty decent, not as good as Art Mel's Spicy Dicy, but I am not getting over that way this trip. Pre-dinner snacks and drinks at the Dock at the Waterlot Inn. Cocktails are pricy at $16/each, but as you can tell from the photo they are large. Left is a Mango Lemon Press (Grey Goose, Malibu Mango, hand-pressed lemonade, fresh fruit) and right is a Burnt Jalepeno Margarita (Patron silver, charred jalepenos, crushed cucumbers, pressed lime) Nibbles plate of almonds, edamame, and olives. Nothing special Second cocktails are a Island Passion (kettle one citron, st. germaine, passion fruit falernum, orange, and pineapple) and a Molecular (grey goose citron, pomegranate cranberry, cointreau caviar) A flatbread with carmelized onion and goat cheese and some shrimp with brava sauce Live music and a nice sunset Dinner at the Newport Gastropub. They were out of everything we had planned to order. Oh well. A "plush ploughman" platter (prosciutto, gherkins, deviled eggs, pate, cheddar) and we shared a grouper sandwich Service is always harried here. It's probably my least favorite restaurant at the hotel, but fine for its purpose. Cup Match is over so we are venturing out to new places today

I am in Bermuda now for a short trip and thought I would add my dining experiences here. The island is very crowded right now for Cup Match and reservations are a little tricky to come by at the more popular places. I should have planned better in advance as we got shut out of a couple of favorites. I do have reservations for each night but may change them around depending on what opens up. We'll be staying at or close to our hotel until the Match is over because buses and taxis are hard to come by (everyone is at the Match haha), and I refuse to rent a scooter after being dumped off the back of one too many times by my Dad as a teenager. We arrived yesterday, and are staying at the Southampton Princess for its proximity to the South Shore beaches that I love. Late afternoon snack while waiting for our room to be ready: That's pimiento cheese, spinach artichoke dip, and hummus from the Jasmine Lounge on property. Dinner was at the Ocean Club, an outdoor restaurant that is also on property. Red snapper seveche Tuna tartare Local fish trio (wahoo, snapper, tuna) Snapper in banana leaf with Thai chili sauce complimentary key lime pie Restaurant view

20 minute fish curry from Made in India. It took longer than 20 minutes to do all of the chopping, slicing, cooking etc. The flavors were nice though. The fish was hake from my fish share.

Bumping this thread because the tomatoes have finally come in! Here is what I picked up at my Saturday farmer's market. I also got some swordfish steaks and soft pretzels but could not fit those in the picture. The ravioli is filled with spicy roasted peppers and goat cheese. The thin bottle is lemon flavored olive oil. I am using the cherry tomatoes, basil, wine, bread, swordfish, lettuce, and squash for today's group meal. The eggplant and onions are destined for a curry on Tuesday evening.

I ended up choosing to make the pistachio and yogurt chicken curry. It was very nice. My husband thought that because of the richness of the sauce, he would like it even more in winter. If I make it again I would go heavier on the chopped pistachio garnish (the pantry was low on pistachios). I added cilantro because I like it, and served the curry with rice and naan. As for other recipes, I have not cooked much from the book yet, but have made and really enjoyed the coconut fish curry and the green beans with mustard seeds and ginger. The vegetable curries sound especially appealing to me so I am guessing I'll be cooking from that section of the book for a while next.

cedar planked salmon with a sour cream, yogurt, onion, parsley and lemon sauce, arugula salad and zucchini-feta fritters I want to make one of the chicken curries from Made in India this evening. If anyone has the book and has cooked any of the chicken curries, I am trying to decide between making the creamy fig curry, the pistachio yogurt curry, and the Mum's chicken curry. Any opinions welcome. (I'll also check the cookbook subforum for any input)

Yesterday for family meal I made two bowl recipes that appeared in the latest issue of Fine Cooking Magazine. The tuscan bowl (grilled chicken, roasted broccolini, escarole, tomatoes, farro, crispy garlic chips, pesto, balsamic glaze) and the sushi bowl (seared rare tuna, edamame, blanched baby bok choy, rice, black sesame seeds, wakame, pickled ginger, mirin drizzle).

Provincetown, the "Outer Cape," and Wellfleet Too
liamsaunt replied to a topic in New England: Dining
For our last lunch we went to the Beachcomber http://www.thebeachcomber.com This is the most famous restaurant in Wellfleet, partially for the music and bar scene. We always go at lunch which is crazy enough. I am too old to deal with the shenanigans at night. The beach was not so welcoming on this day We opted to stay up top of the dune. It was cold enough to warrant some clam chowder My nephew loves this restaurant because they fry their fries in a separate fryer, so he can eat them I also had a fried clam roll. Whole bellies of course niece just wanted mozzarella sticks For our final dinner, we returned to Mac's Shack. Oysters French random sushi the big tuna striped bass That's it for now. I'll be back out there for 10 days next month and have some new places I want to try. I'll post about them here.- 714 replies

Provincetown, the "Outer Cape," and Wellfleet Too

A couple more updates. The day we went to Provincetown was HOT, so we decided not to go into town. Instead, we had lunch at Mac's Fish House, which is about a mile away from the center of town. https://www.macsseafood.com/restaurants/macs-provincetown My niece is a sushi hound, so she ordered many of the same things I showed in the Mac's Shack post. We also ordered a tempura fried spicy tuna stuffed avocado: I had the swordfish pastrami rueben Husband had a scallop roll Nephew had a burger (no picture). He's allergic to shrimp, crab, and lobster, so has pretty limited choices when dining out on the Cape. Luckily he really likes burgers. Yesterday we backtracked a bit and went to Chatham for the day so the kids could go shopping at the candy stores. Mistake, it was insanely crowded. We had lunch at the Impudent Oyster https://www.zagat.com/r/impudent-oyster-chatham/menu Nephew's veggie burger (no fries because of his allergy) Tuna pan bagnat Scallop roll with housemade chips chopped salad Sticky toffee pudding Salted caramel brownie sundae On the way home we stopped at PB Boulangerie for some treats. http://pbboulangeriebistro.com Croissants Coffee eclair, cheesecake, and chocolate tart -

Yesterday we lost two of our six members of vacationing party to their need to return to work, so it's just my husband, niece and nephew for the rest of the trip. We were only moderately hungry yesterday (and did not feel like driving) so went to a casual place near our rental house, the Pearl http://www.wellfleetpearl.com clams casino fried calamari avocado but with housemate chips salad with strawberries and goat cheese pasta with creamy pesto and chicken oyster po boy We are going to Provincetown today. -
