  7. You have brought up some good points here which I had not thought about previously ... yes, of course, the feeling of intimacy is especially important and there is nothing like a glare of harsh light to illuminate laugh lines and forehead furrows ... and the energy one spends on analyzing food can indeed be considerable, Marcia ... just never thought about it this way! and from birder 53, which is now something I will listen for when I eat in nice restaurants.
  8. some information here on the taste and we had a thread here on these grapes in which therese describes eating scuppernongs quite expertly!
  9. Sounds as if you are my separated-at-birth sister, Marcia! Talk too much about food? Not possible ...
  10. The Seven Silly Eaters by Mary Ann Hoberman, Marla Frazee The artwork alone will be engaging for children who can read the book by themselves already. I have given it as a birthday gift on a few occasions.
  11. The Carrot Seed by Ruth Krauss (which taught my daughter to read, or so she claimed!) Cherries and Cherry Pits by Vera Williams Chicken Soup with Rice by Maurice Sendak (a classic I still love!) Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett
  12. article from the CS Monitor Discussing food, as the author of this article notes sagely, is often a great ice-breaker. Food is generally a common interest for many and is usually neutral unless it becomes political or judgemental. With that in mind, might I inquire: Do you discuss food with others? Whom do you usually do this with? Is this something one can do with friends and strangers alike? Does food chat add to your knowledge base? Does it evoke nostalgic memories?
  13. If you want to do a potato kugel, one simple and the other a bit more complex, try these two recipes from Recipe Gullet

  19. like the original vines? Hard to tell with a few scrapings from the wine vessels and the ensuing of years, I'll bet ... Does this finding mean we'll have to endure a special of Food Network from Marc Summers "Wines (& their mummies) Unwrapped"?
  20. Tut tut, my man, hopefully not a merlot ...
  21. thread on Apple Mac & Cheese an Alton Brown idea ...
  22. Not yet but after your introduction to it, I will be hunting down a copy for my collection! Thanks for this "lead"! and, best of all, the used copies are only $13.25!
  23. Apple stir fry? Waldorf apple salad? Apple turkey saute? Glazed apple sidedish? Apple yam casserole?
  24. Not so much "swipe" as "receive great inspiration from to enlarge and enrich" the topic and make it less regional .. romance is popular in many parts of the world ... Betcha that romantic dinners occur in Botswana and Boston and Eritrea and Paris and Dubuque ...
