article on the history of salads This coincides with the ongoing and current thread on salad bars, but is different ...of salad bars ...and dodo birds ... not in the same bowl ... This article made me nostalgic for those salads of yore ... If I only had one salad to eat, I'd opt for _________________. Me? Cobb Salad: the right proportions of ingredients, chopped into a uniform (small) size, and mixed with a creamy, tangy dressing.

Animals Rights Protestors Shut Cat-Meat Restaurant
Gifted Gourmet replied to a topic in China: Dining
I understand that on occasion, the Chinese eat almost anything, but generally speaking, they prefer relatively ordinary foods such as pork, beef, chicken and fish. Perhaps, one of the truly exotic foods that they eat with any great frequency is squid, which is not really particularly exotic in many European countries ... a fluffy cat isn't any more bizarre than those precious little ducks with their soft feathers and down ... -

Rogov, I thank you for bringing this book to our attention .. and certainly have to agree with your sentiments expressed here that there is something far more intimate, more endearing to leafing through the pages of a book than by merely hitting a "enter" button and moving on to another page as it pops up on one's screen. My personal enjoyment of wine labels comes from a town where my daughter lives, Santa Cruz, California, which is well known for Bonny Doon Vineyards ... we had their owner do a Q & A here on eGullet: Randall Grahm speaks about his witty labels on his wines ... "Le Cigare Volant," "Cardinal Zin," "Muscat Vin de Glaciere" among others ...Bonny Doon website

Perhaps an example from my father-in-law and his mother before him: Coffee and soups had to be served while still boiling .. anything less was considered to be just 'unappetizingly tepid' ... one meal I prepared was soup and coffee ... I heated them as hot as I possibly could ... the steam rose from their surfaces! .. they sipped both gingerly and responded, quite civilly: "ice" ... A sidebar: one lived to 93 and the other to 91 ... expected their autopsies to indicate charred mouth interiors ... nope! Damn! You do know about the term Magiric ?
