Not sure if you guys already read this or not, but I think that culiblog has a really creative, informative, and somewhat realistic perspective on some of these sustainable/local/etc issues. Or maybe she's just delusional (insert sarcastic "softening wink" emoticon here). Either way, it's a good read.
