Just a quick note to let you all know--the Malay Satay Hut on 12th is back open. I just found out, so I apologize if this is old news. But I, for one, cannot wait to go to dinner there! I missed it.

Welcome - see you posted on the Gourmet Best Restaurant thread. Let us know when you hear what's hot in Seattle! I don't think Malay Satay will be on the list...

Thanks for the welcome....

Looks like I'll have to wait for my magazine to know which places they choose. Won't it be nice if it's not just the same list of over-hyped (under-performing) places around town....

I just ate there tonight. Roti canai, yam pot, mango shrimp, a noodle soup, and kang kung belachan. Everything was excellent except the kang kung, I guess I prefer more garlic than shrimp paste.

Also wandered the neighborhood waiting for my friends to show up. I now know where the Seattle Deli and Nha Trang are, saw about 5000 other banh mi shops, at least one more place adverstising beef 7 ways, golfball sized thai egglants at hau hau (can you get the pea sized ones in Seattle?), and looked in the window of Azuma Kaiten Sushi, which looked totally empty.

I've been to Azuma at least a half-dozen times and at most, there were six other people. The majority of the time it's me and two or three others. I hope that they don't go under because I don't know of another Kaiten style shop and it isn't bad sushi.

The conveyor belt, long may she rotate.

Welcome, aaustin, and thanks for the reminder. mb7o, I've seen the pea eggplants occasionally, once at the former Viet Hoa market at 7th and Jackson, and once at Uwajimaya. I snap them up whenever I see them and make a green curry.

Wouldn't it be funny if the Vietnamese restaurants started trying to one-up each other in types of beef served? Maybe in a few months we can all go for "beef 35 ways."

mamster, why do you call it the former Viet Hoa market? I'm pretty sure it was around 7th & Jackson I just saw them there 2 days ago. I was in the neighborhood and walked in as I hadn't seen that market before, just to check it out. Lots of frozen fish and other frozen items, as well as some fresh meat (I looked for brisket since someone on egullet had asked about it, but didn't see any). I don't recall seeing any produce though. It could be a different place, but I seem to recall the name was Viet Hoa.

BH, are you talking about the store with the really steep stairs and the fish tanks in the entry? I think that is the Viet Hoa Seafood Market, isn't it? Maybe I'm wrong.... I should pay more attention to signs :)

I think Mamster might be talking about the produce store across the intersection, which I think is now called the Chinatown Market, but used to be called the Viet Hoa? :)
