  1. I hear that Restaurant Eve is sorucing some of its cheese from Cheesetique.
  2. I think he meant to imply that second-class service would be an upgrade?
  3. Doesn't the label say "Woodbridge, by Robert Mondavi?"
  4. Charles Shaw is definitely a lifestyle wine, a lowlife style.
  5. Weekends are harder than weekdays. Also, I find that he can get you in on shorter notice if you can wait until about 8:30 to start your dinner. Call between 12 and 2 and you will likely get to talk to the ruminant regent himself.
  6. I went to one of my daughter's soccer games out in Herndon, VA and there were a whole bunch of Hispanic playing soccer on an adjoining field. There were three, count 'em, three taco trucks there for the event. Find out where the Hispanic play soccer on the weekends and you will find taco trucks. I'd be willing to participate in some investigatory work on this one, for the DC area.
  7. How about taking a load of half-smokes with you.
  8. I'm curious Don; did you try their wine before you pronounced it "plonk" and "shitty?" Busboy seems to have a somewhat different view after tasting the stuff. Just curious is all.
  9. Could you bring me back some --- Tasso Ham???
  10. Speaking of dead favorites--Fio's, formerly in the Woodner Apartment building on 16th St. Excellent, small, family run Italian joint.
  11. Thanks everyone for all of the good information. I have passed it along to my brother, hopefully, his Blackberry will pick up the messages.
  12. Just so I understand, this thread is about the Sam Adams establishment at Dulles and should not be characterized as a slam on Sam Adams's beer in general?
  13. Chef Michael is indeed upgrading his wine service. He is in the process of acquring/installing a nitrogen system so that he can offer a wider selection of better wines by the glass. I think all will agree that this will be a weclomed improvment. Now, did you happen to notice the hard-top for Michael's convertible sitting on top of the alcove that forms the doorway?
  14. Bad or expired beer is primarily the fault of the distributor. They should monitor for expired beer and rotate stock. In my youth, I worked for a beer distributor.
  15. Chili, pot roast, Hungarian goulash, veal stew, bvraised lamb shanks. I am especially eager to try a new technique on the lamb shanks. I plan to saw off the small end so that when cooking, the meat all draws up into a ball at the other end of the bone. A trick adapted form chicken drumsticks.
  16. Check out the wine list at Oceanaire. They have an extensive list printied on the back of the menu. However, they also have a separate hard-bound wine list with their "reserve" wines on it. I ate ther for several years before I realized there was another "list." It made no difference to me because I wasn't going to order anything off of the reserve lilst anyway.
  17. The Exxon station on the road to St. Michael's just outside of Easton, MD makes exquisite cheese-steaks. They also sell really good home-made country style fresh pork sausage. It is worth a short detour if you get hungry on the way to/from the beach. They also make home-made fruit pies, but I have never tried any of them.
  18. I'd use a well seasoned carbon steel skillet.
  19. My brother will be traveling next week to Scotland with his wife and daughter to install her as a freshman at the University of St. Andrews and would like some restaurant recommendations for Glasgow, Edinborough, St. Andrews and Inverness. Can any of you folks from the Land of the Single Malt provide him with the benefit of the local knowledge? typo edit
  20. I am sure, given a little time, that an on-line dictionary definition for "yahoo-assed" will appear. It did not take long for "ventworm nut" to show up.
  21. iamthestretch, mdt and I will be hitting the bar at Restaurant Eve tomorrow evening at around 6.
  22. What it means is that the restaurant is protecting the really good stuff from the ignoratti and the apparantly high risk that tourists will not like an expensive bottle of wine and will try to send it back as "bad." Cognoscenti, on the other had, are much less likely to send back an otherwise good bottle of wine merely because it was not what they were expecting and/or did not like it.
  23. I'm heading over to Oceanaire after work for a couple of beers a cigar and perhaps some half-price oysters.
  24. Flufflypopsicle, Welcome to eGullet.
