Sarma, I saw you on NY1's segment on raw food this morning.

Nothing tastes/looks/feels worse than....

I had a room-mate who left an open bottle of apple juice in the fridge for such a long time that mold formed on top. Some months ago I kept picking up an unpleasant smell and finally figured out that one of my onions had liquified. -
I've seen these called Roma Beans at the greenmarket.

The vanilla gelato looks great even on its own. I'm intrigued by the use of the coffee bean.

Tonight's menu: Borscht - beets, crispin apples, ginger London Broil, rare in a soy-honey-rosemary marinade Green beans Ratatouille Blueberry Pie Tomorrow's lunch is the standard salad with grilled chicken breasts.

I braved the pouring rain and hit 97th street. Picked up some rosemary (baldwin farms), sesame pugliese and rosemary sourdough rolls (tribeca ovens), green leaf lettuce and kirby cukes (bialas farms), and cherries and assorted sugar plums (locust grove). My wellies made a hit with the Locust Grove guy. He gave me lots of extra cherries. Plus, I learned something new: Bing cherries can't grow in this part of the country. We get to much rain and it causes the skins to split (the pits will pop out).

I often parboil them and then just toss with some toasted sesame oil and kosher salt. Sauteeing them with minced garlic and ginger and the sesame oil is also good. The other thing I frequently do after parboiling is toss them with either a tarragon-dill vinagrette or dill mayo that I make.

Chris Carmichael did a segment on OLN earlier this week on diet and the number of calories the guys take it. If I remember correctly their diet is made up of 75% carbs. For those of you thinking of going to Paris on sunday --- Do!! I was at the final stage in '90 (Le Mond won). It was wild.

BTW, saltines play a small, but important role in the movie The Terminal.
-
You're so right about that. I throw the dried ones into a pot of black beans and it gives a great meaty flavor.

When I was growing up one of my favorite lunches to bring to school was saltines liberally schmeared with peanut butter. My mom would actually make me extras because she knew they were so popular with my friends. Nowadays the only time I eat saltines is when I'm suffering from a bad stomach. I had surgery 2 years ago and that was the only thing I could keep down for the first few days. On those occasions I'm always reminded how good they are - I can demolish a sleeve of them in a single sitting.

Thanks. I knew someone here would know what I'm talking about.

I make duck for the express purpose of rendering the fat. As soon as my supply starts shrinking I make another duck.

Prada Sport and JP Tod make great looking shoes that are extremely comfortable for a heavy day of walking. Cole Haan has just introduced a line of shoes that look very comfortable yet stylish as well. Your feet will look and feel great in a museum or in a cafe, whatever your preference.

There are 4 bottles in our refrigerator. Since I don't eat that crap I assume that Blovie has opened them all.

What about the Japanese market on 59th between 2nd and 3rd? (I'm drawing a blank on the name)

This is my favorite method. But I leave them whole and use a bit of sea salt.

It's interesting that to you these traits scream American to you. To me, many of them are signs of Germans. Particularly the short shorts. I've been seeing a lot of that on the subway this summer. It's hideous. In regard to suggested dress codes when visiting the continent: everyone always says that wearing sneakers will get you outed as an American. And yet, all the Europeans wear sneakers here in NY. What's up with that? Do they think they blend in? Cause they don't.

From what I heard, the reason behind Coors entering this merger is because there is a lack of interest in the family to continue running the business. As many of you know, Peter Coors is running for Campbell's seat in the Senate.

It was only 2 years ago that I finally kosher chipotles in adobo, but I scooped up several cans when I found them. I also have a stash of chipotles that I use when making beans.

I don't know if Barnes & Noble carries the same magazines nationwide, but check them for WFI. I know they carry it up in NYC, maybe it's the same by you.

Do you have any Spanish roots? If you recall during the Spanish Inquisition many jews converted to catholocism but continued to practice Judaism in secret. Maybe the fish thing is related to that.

I found myself at Union Square a little after 5pm. I picked up 5 ears of corn, 2 apples, green beans, beets, zucchini, and carrots. The last four items cost me $1 each per bunch or bag (for beans and zukes) because they were trying to sell off all their produce.

Which brings me to... Cap'n Crunch and unsweetened whipped cream
