I've been remiss in saying what a good time I had on Sat. night, despite the fact I couldn't indulge with you all. I will be glad to provide a suggestion for a kosher place to try. There are 4 places I can think of. But one has lousy burgers, one is filthy and I refuse to eat there (although the burgers are decent), and the other two - it's been a very long since I sampled their burgers. So, I've got my homework assignment, and will try to come up with an acceptable place.

You forgot the duck fat group and the chocolate group.

I'm being displaced from my apartment for the next 5 days so I'm relocating to my in-laws in NJ. I think a trip to Woodbridge will be made. Scharffen Berger for $6.99? That's a bargain. I've seen it for over $8.

Bux, you know how Starbuck's actually has a small coffee, but you can only get it if you order a short? Perhaps RTR has a smaller size, but we don't know the proper lingo.

Plus, there's always alcohol.

And I thought my mom was the only one who did this. Perlows - it seems as if you're cleaning out your pantry trying all these experiments.

I came to roasting cauliflower last winter. Wow. I've always liked cauliflower, but the roasting brought it to a whole new level of taste. I have to check the recipe out on the archive. Thanks for the heads up.

Maybe I'm used to paying over-inflated prices, but I thought it was a pretty good value. We ordered a small, which contained to two flavors, and there were two of us eating, and we couldn't finish our portion. There was too much. BTW, I think a cone a Haagen Daz is $2.50.

I remember when the Wegmans in Ithaca opened. It was like supermarket nirvana. I had never seen a supermarket with aisles that wide or such of great assortment of prepared foods. I have no recollection of the prices being that I was a college student and charged all my groceries to the "Bank of Dad." But I still look fondly back on my sunday night shopping treks in order to stock the apartment fridge for the week. I can't wait to check out the Woodbridge store. Although my husband has visited the Ithaca store, he doesn't understand how a supermarket can earn such devotion.

I had something similar happen to me two weeks ago. I had a slow gas leak and they had to turn my stove off for 3 days until the new part arrived and they could install it. Needless to say, we ate a lot of cereal and take-out that week. I look forward to hearing your comments on the farmer's market. On my last visit to SF I visited the market by the Embarcadaro. It was early spring and the offerings were significantly more substantial than what was offered in NY. Everything was gorgeous and I got to sample lots of tasty fruits and vegetables. As I walked through I found myself continuously saying "I wish I had kitchen here." Plus, the vendors were so friendly. We spent about a half hour talking to one of the guys about greens and with another another berries. I remember the visit fondly.

I know the purpose of BC is for analyzing burgers, but would it be a problem if I stuck my head in and said hello? As of now, I'm free on saturday night until 8:00 (curtain).

My favortie Jersey City influenced word is "who-wah" (whore).

If you live in the Heights, or thereabouts, the reason for no Brooklyn accent is that they're all Manhattan transplants. Oh, and if you think Brooklyn is bad, you should hear the Bronx accent.

herb - fwiw, I'm not a fan of Cupcake either. The cupcakes are beautifully decorated, but I didn't think there was enough flavor. I was dissapointed by my cupcake.

Harmless?? You've never been dive bombed by a crazed pigeon. I supose you think that Trafalgar Square's charm is all due to the pigeons as well?
-
Actually, the Lawn Guyland accent is a bastardization of the the Brooklyn accent.
-
Oh, man, I wish. It's flourishing in City Hall Park. Why, oh why do people think that feeding pigeons is a good idea? I just don't get it. (where's the perplexed emoticon?)
-
This is the reason I don't understand the obsession of feeding those damned things. They're rodents with wings.

The origin for New Yorkers standing on line comes from the fact that they used to draw lines on the ground in order to indicate where people should stand. So people stood "on the line." Yet one more way you can tell a native new yawka.

I've always wanted to know what type of berry is a lie-berry.

The lemon myrtle sounds a bit like lemon verbena. Does anyone know if they're related? -
I've been to Crumbs a number of times. The cake part of the cupcake is ok, but not chocolate-ty enough. What makes up for it is the toppings. I liked their version of the Drake's Yankee Doodle. The Reeses Peanut Butter Cupcake was enormous. I couldn't eat it in one sitting. But their carrot cupcake was the best of everything I sampled. One thing though - Grimes complained about the size of their cupcake. In fact, they come in two sizes. And the smaller one is a perfect size. It leaves you wanting more.
