Thanks, I was just hoping that my guests would not be privy to my greasy kitchen! The way our space is set up, most people gravitate to the kitchen as much as I dry to dissuade them!

If I want to do a braise for company, browining the chicken before braising it with liquid half way up the sides so the skin will stay crispy? Can't find a definitive answer and I don't want to poison my guests. Ideally, I would like to get the chicken skin really crispy, which will make a mess of my stove top, then hold it (and clean the kitchen) then start the braise a couple of hours before dinner. Is it feasible?

I've never seen or heard of smoked tuna. Did you smoke it yourself or purchase it smoked. My husband would go crazy for it.

I feel the same way. Corned beef hash with a poached egg and a reuben are the best reasons for making corned beef in my humble opinion.

I find it's an easier sell when I don't try to "disguise" vegetables as something they're not. Minced cauliflower, not cauliflower rice, shredded zucchini, not zoodles... You get the picture. I'm kind of that way myself actually.

Healthy or not - it all looks delicious!

Potato crust quiche tonight. Weight watchers compliant. Shredded potato shell, eggs, fat free evaporated milk, sharp cheddar, lean prosciutto, sundried tomatoes, asparagus and broccoli. Served with salad. It's good but I cannot get spaghetti carbonara out of my head and there is no way to make that WW friendly, so I will eat frugally for the next few days and then have my carbonara on the weekend with my leftover points.

Red Peppers stuffed with ground turkey, whole grain and wild rice blend, mushrooms, onions, garlic and spinach. I suppose I could have scraped the spaghetti squash from the shell, made a nest of it for the stuffed pepper and garnished it artfully. Obviously I didn't do that.

It's odd for me in that when I click on the picture, it comes up with a black background which is stunning! In the post, it shows up on a white background which I don't care for nearly as much.

There a few small "liquor agents" in remote parts of BC (usually combined with a couple of other businesses) where you have to ask for what you want and they bring it out from a back room.

Good memories Kim. My Mom did this too. Eggs served in a parfait glass with "toast soldiers."

Amazing schnitzel. My birthday dinner downtown Vancouver plans got waylaid due to Colin James postponing his Vancouver date until September 30th, so my husband asked me to choose a local place for dinner this weekend. My first thought was the Bavaria Haus in Abbotsford. Their schnitzel is perfect (although pork, not veal) and one can choose between potatoes or spaetzle and their red cabbage is amazing. Second best choice to having dinner with you, but sadly, my husband said that flying to Germany for dinner with Duvel is not an option. He's so mean!

Thanks for the likes, but probably some of the worst waffles I have ever made for a couple of reasons; lazy procrastinating, until about an hour before dinner, so didn't do the seperated egg thing or the yeast risen ones. Bascially pancakes shaped liked waffles. You get what you give. Also had the waffle iron cranked to high, but they never got crispy. I shall perservere.

Kind of uninspired for dinner tonight and then I remembered that I got a new waffle iron for Christmas that I hadn't used yet, so proposed breakfast for dinner and my husband was on board. His homemade back bacon, waffles, air fryer "fried" potatoes and onions and dribs and drabs of fruit. Picture is sans accoutrements, which for me is home canned salsa and some fresh cilantro on the potatoes and a drizzle of maple syrup on the waffle.

It is definitely a favourite for us. Just asked my husband to remind me when we're there to pick up a couple of gift cards for our daughters for next Christmas. I guess it may be volume based, but their prices are unheard of in Vancouver. It is cheaper than a McDonald's breakfast (at 100 times the quality) for heavens sake!

I I shall indeed report. I'm a bit shy taking photos in restaurants, but I'll do my best. The two places mentioned were chosen as they are both walking distance from our hotel and the venue where the concert (Colin James) is. One of the only ways I can convince my husband to venture into the city is if we can drive to one point and walk from there. I am planning on breakfast the next day at Breka Bakery and Cafe on Denman. My daughters and I have breakfasted there numerous times when (pre Covid) we stayed downtown for a musical theatre production or Cirque de Soliel. It is incedibly good food at an unbelievable price. https://www.breka.ca/

Your dinner looks great. My husband and I are going downtown (Vancouver) later this week for a concert and will visit the Fanny Bay Oyster Bar for appies, before heading to Frankies Italian Kitchen for dinner. I am insanely excited as we haven't been into Vancouver for almost 2 years even though we are less than an hour away. The town we live near and the next nearest one are kind of food deserts, other than fast food and chains.

What great timing! Was just contemplating a pack of 4 thighs. I'll just sub asparagus for the green beans later on in the cooking and I won't even have to leave the house!

I have picked that sauce up from Costco as well - a decent quick meal for sure.

Yes, there is a slot for the stem - it's facing me in the picture.

My sister and I were both born in March - 2 years and 10 days apart, so we always treat ourselves to a nice birthday lunch and yesterday was the day. We went to a local winery - Domaine de Chaberton - that makes one of our favourite white wines. Quiche and salad and a glass of said wine (Bacchus) and then it was a nice enough day, about 12C, to sit outside and enjoy a flight. Sunny day, great company and good wine.

I agree wholeheartedly. Broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, asparagus - all benefit from a quick dip in the hot tub, and then into ice water. Carrots are okay raw IMHO (depending on freshness) , as are peppers, celery, snap peas (if fesh) , but most of above mentioned cruciferous do better with a quick blanch

Looks like the dog's breakfast, but it was my lunch. Fairly typical for me - use up some leftovers and try to get a couple of servings of veg in. Cooked beets, acorn squash, cherry tomatoes. Topped with feta and some pickled onions. Lots of black pepper and a drizzle of balsamic. It was good, no matter how it looks.

High praise coming from you Ann. My husband and I are sticking pretty close to weight watchers so Greek yogurt has been a great sub for sour cream in dressings and other applications. It was just greek yogurt, grainy mustard, pinch of salt, pinch of red pepper and a sploosh of rice vinegar. Went well with the selected vegetables.

The ceviche looks fantastic. I eat my body weight of cheviche when in Mexico. How do you get so close to the whales? Kayak?
