You should axe them why.

You shouldn't load up on anything first time around. Put a small taste on your plate and use your fork. If it's good, take a little more. Come back for seconds. Does anyone want to nominate me for Empress? Other items in my platform: everyone will have to smile at babies, and men will wear a tuxedo once a month. I'll furnish the tuxes, if elected.

Great point, Ray. Buffet owners should print signs saying as much.

I wish I could use it. If I hadn't seen it in neon, I would have thought Phaelon'd made it up and then it would be okay. Grrrr. I even have a neon font. Oh, phoo-phah. I just can't do it. (Can I?)

David Niven's miniaturized brother can drink all the coffee he wants.

It's all coming back to me. Melkor's food blog was all those pretty coffee drinks with the hearts in them, right? Now the question is, "Were the hearts a lovenote to wifey, or to coffee?"

San Francisco Chocolate Factory Wine products An out-of-this-world combo is Bonny Doon's Framboise (pant, pant, pant) with Scharffen Berger bittersweet chocolate. A one-ounce bar is just about right. Not too long ago, I picked up a bottle of Framboise that had attached to it a small bar of Valhrona dark chocolate. That was a sublime combination. Framboise and chocolate, mmmmmm. </Homer Simpson gourmet mode>

I agree with the owner. Wastefulness is the same as destructiveness, and both are the only "sins" I know. The kind of attitude displayed by those callous young men is why the world is in the shape it's in. "Hello? It's the clue phone, and it's for you!" Bah.

I won't go near that quote with my own version - it would be way too revealing I'll have to ponder for awhile to come up with a few others but I always like the one that Coffee Messiah in Seattle uses on their window and their t-shirts Then there's the bumper sticker: "Friends Don't Let Friends Drink Starbucks" Izzard's other one: "I like my women like I like my coffee: with a spoon in them!" "Caffeine Saves" is so good, but I shouldn't use it. I might use "Worship Caffeine." Thinking and thinking. A little birdie whispered to me that Melkor is the #1 Grand Poohbah of Coffee in these parts. 'Zat true?

Stand back, folks. Artichoke Festival in Castroville, California Tomato Festival: over THREE HUNDRED varieties of heirloom tomatoes for tasting. Sell my clothes, I'm going to Heaven.

There's always the Eddie Izzard line, "I like my women like I like my coffee: in a plastic cup." (Or "I like my women like I like my coffee: covered in beeees!")

You know, that's one of the sites I visited when scrolling through some of the "attitude" humor at the CafePress stores. Screaming Man is good, but I don't want to swipe someone else's deal. Thanks for the link, though. Maybe I should hit the the thesaurus.

Is there any way to get into the LA Times site, like the NY Times site? Thanks.

There is a new chef at Blue Hill in New York, I think his name is Juan. Michael has moved completely to Stone Barns. Dan will be going back and forth between the restaurants to assure continuity, I suspect. The teamwork -- it's downright family -- is one of their greatest strengths. It elevates them to the heights they've achieved, and deservedly, in my opinion. Were there a restaurant Olympics, I would want Blue Hill's team to represent the USA. (So sue me.) As far as the "not in the best taste" thing, I would wait to hear from others. Taste is very subjective, after all.

I am keenly aware of the devout feelings that coffee drinkers have towards their brown beverages. I'm making a series of designs along those lines, and was advised by a fellow eGulleteer that some of you might brainstorm and help me out. The first of my designs can be seen on these products. I'm working with old-fashioned clip art, and have several other things in mind. But I love that one graphic so much that I am considering using it again with different words. If anyone feels inspired to lend a phrase, feel free. My intro to that section of my website says, "Might as well face it, you're addicted to Joe." Feel free to confess, divulge, or trumpet your love of the little brown bean. Edit to note: I have even created left-handed and right-handed coffee mugs.

Oooh, I forgot about Acacia and Sonoma-Cutrer. Others I just remembered: Rombauer and S. Anderson (though their sparkling wines are the be-all, end-all, in my book, their Chardonnay is exquisite, too). Both are Napa wineries.

I think I could eat beets and/or red bell peppers every day of my life. But I'm not big on the sour beet thing. I'm willing to consider Ms. Tillie's elixir, but other than that, keep my beets unpickled and pure. Redolent, earthy goodness. And beet greens? I need a fan. I love them so.

New Orleans Restaurants: Reviews & Recommendations

Another vote here for Jazz and Heritage festival. Go to the fairgrounds, git you an oyster po boy, and then go visit the gospel tent. If you don't die and go to heaven, you'll think you have. -
Oh my God, at one of the farm dinners last year, Evan Kleiman made Beet-Ricotta Dumplings that were some of the best things I've ever had. As for me, I love beets. I wash them, cut them into large chunks and then give a light spray of olive oil. Then wrap in heavy foil and roast at 400 degrees until they're easily pierced with a fork. Let them cool, add to a plateful of spinach with pine nuts, goat cheese, and some kind of vinaigrette, and that's a fabulous salad. Or cook up the greens in a little EVOO and thick balsamic (I've got a bottle of 20-year-old stuff that pours like syrup), with the lightest bit of salt and pepper. And again, you can't go wrong adding goat cheese to beet dishes. Mmmmm.

I think this post refers to the episodes which reran on Friday and Saturday, the 2000 Flay/Morimoto shows done in NY and Japan. Oh, I didn't know that was a re-run. But nonetheless, he jumped on the countertop twice, right? Or more than that? What nauseating arrogance. How embarrassing to be an American in those circumstances, around someone so unprofessional and insulting to his hosts.
-
Did you think the Flay episode was fixed? I could NOT believe he leapt up onto the counter again, cutting board or no. Talk about The Ugly American.

Absolutely and without question: we have a winner. Trader Joe's tangerine is pretty damn good, too.

I don't think you should limit yourself to those two counties, as there are many many good Chardonnays produced in the Santa Cruz Mountains. From the Outstanding in the Field farm dinners, I can recommend these: 1) Anything that Dan Lee makes. He's the SF Chronicle's winemaker of the year, and his Morgan Chardonnay is one of my favorites in the world. 2) Russian Hill Winery (Sonoma) 3) Storrs Christie Vineyward Chardonnay. (They're in Santa Cruz county.) 4) Frog's Leap: John Williams is just a brilliant, wonderful guy. They're in Napa county. 5) Thomas Fogarty 2001 Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay: Michael Martella is their winemaker, and he also has his own label. If you can find anything he makes, consider yourself lucky. And one I recommend though it's not expensive is J. Lohr Riverstone Chardonnay. I can get it on sale at my local Trader Joe's for about $10 a bottle, though it usually retails for $15 or so. David Bruce is also a fine producer of SC Mountains Chardonnays.

I'll bring you some Meyer lemons from my tree, BondGirl, providing I can make it. Otherwise, I've seen Meyers at my local Trader Joe's (here in Santa Cruz). What are your dates again?
