  1. I just thought that it was rather cheesy, proposing not only in a restaurant with everyone gawking, but doing it on TV. I'll bet that he thought that she was joking about being able to get fat now that he was hooked. He'll probably find out different.
  2. This one had to be the worst episode of them all. They wasted a good thirty minutes on the table of women who were watching the schmuck that proposed. The other half of the show was about trystes between the staff. Is this a restaurant or a swing club? I wonder who paid for the trip to the Hamptons? Maybe Rocco took out another loan from Amex?

    Port

Is necessary to finish a bottle of port shortly after opening or does the higher alcohol content retard oxidation?
  4. Holly, by the way, I was travelling down I-81 in VA a few weeks ago and stopped at a couple of the places that you had on your website. Next time you're down in Middle Tennessee, you've got to go to Miss Mary Bobo's in Lynchburg. It's good, simple food served family-style. If you can't get reservations there, try the Iron Skillet on the courthouse square.
  5. I wasn't thinking of any place in particular, but it gets to me when a place purports to have "home cooked meals" and serves up canned gravy and instant mashed potatoes.

    Staryucks

Those Starbucks that you see at airports and bookstores aren't owned by Starbucks, Inc. They are franchises (or so I've been told).
  7. The Kleerview restaurant in Murfreesboro is a really good meat-n-three that has hot water cornbread that is the best I've ever had. A nice touch are the cafeteria trays from Decherd elementary school. It is the real thing, not some calculated wanna-be.
  8. With all of the drama that we see from the staff, you would think that we would've heard more about it if they weren't getting paid on time. I don't think that they weren't being paid. It was just a setup to give them another chance for product placement. The thing is, when they do it, it is always so clunky! Like anybody even believes that they like to drink that Coors swill. They were even drinking it during that stupid bit at the comedy club. I can imagine the directors saying, "Move your hand, the camera can't see the label clearly!"

    Staryucks

Actually, as much as I dislike the coffee at Starbucks, I have to give credit to the CEO, Howard Schultz, for making the American public aware of espresso drinks. Pre-Starbucks, almost no one knew what an "expresso" was and they surely weren't going to pay 3 dollars and change for a cup of coffee. He has opened the door for independents with a focus on quality and service to be able to be successful in other than major urban centers. The key for the independent is recognizing espresso as a culinary art and giving it the attention to detail that it requires. Super-auto machines, espresso pods, and scalded milk aren't gonna cut it.

    Staryucks

The few times that I've been to Donna's, the coffee was horrid. The last time that I went and ordered a latte, I got a cereal bowl(!) filled with milk and a shot of thin, over-extracted espresso. I didn't know whether to pick it up and slurp it or grab a spoon! I actually wrote an email to the company but got no reply. I'll never go back again. Life's too short to drink bad coffee.
  11. Their cafe is now open in Silver Spring. They are located on Georgia Ave. beside the metro line. On Friday and Saturday evenings, there usually some type of live music. Their coffee is really good, probably owing to the fact that they roast on premises.

    The Mojito

Does anyone have a source for the Yerba Buena seeds? Also, what mint variety is the closest to Yerba Buena?
