    Dinner! 2003

Sunday was burgers. Truffle scented angus beef burger with Neal's Yard Cheddar, applewood smoked bacon and truffled foie gras mousse. Spinach salad with bacon fat-aged balsamic vinaigrette, bliss potatoes and Humbolt Fog goat's cheese Blueberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream
  4. Only one rule Mark? I agree. Merlot is good. Chardonnay is good. It's all good if you look hard enough.
  5. We did it, won "something." But writing that check was akin to prostitution. The end quote says it for me. Something like "at best it's a legitimate award, at worst, it's advertising."

    Red Wine in the Frig

I've been drinking a lot of stuff from the Languedoc lately. They seem to take a chill pretty well and for the most part are inexpensive. Plus, they don't require intense examination. Just pull the cork and enjoy. When does the rose thread start?
  8. Just kidding about the wine notes. I'll try to get my notes posted too, if I can find them. Long night though.
  9. No wine notes? I went for mine and a friend's birthday last month, 6 top in the kitchen. One of the top dining experiences you can get in the city. My man Michael is doing well after taking over as chef de cuisine. Sit in the kitchen if you can. Watching "the dance" never gets old.
  10. Sometimes Chardonnay tastes like apple. Is that normal? (just trying to have a little fun folks)
  11. I went in December and was not given one reason to go back. My recollection is that it is the Chili's of seafood disguised as a place not trying to be the chili's of seafood. Had no idea it was a chain. Why not Pesce? Can't rememer if they have a grill but they do a great job.

well, I guess that about wraps this up!

    German rieslings

My question would be if eiswein has a sugar requirement at harvest by law like the other pradikats. I think it is awarded solely on the grapes being frozen. Obviously, they would have high sugar content due to long hang time, but I think the big time sweetness comes from pressing the not-frozen juice quickly so the water crystals stay behind. And I don't think you can freeze them manually.

    White Shiraz

White Shiraz=bad. Trevor Jones = good. Those boots are made for drinkin' Mark Sommelier will certainly have something to say about that.
  16. Make mine Old Raj (I think it's seriously high proof). Plus, it's got a cool label. Then, Hendricks or Bombay (regular).

    Wine advertising

Nope. Don't like it. If you advertise, you need to.

    Gruner Veltliner

Mark, talking to Terry last month he feels that they are age-worthy. I agree getting ahold of him would be your best bet.

    Over-extracted

Carema; Great post. I was just trying to provide an example with the Martinelli. As it is a judgement call, I prefer less extracted, old world style wines to the big fruit bomb new world style generally, but would certainly not turn down a Turley product (actually do not turn down much of anything). Sometimes I find all the alcohol in the "over extracted" wines to be unpleasant, thowing the balance off for my taste. The beauty of this beverage is you have to find your own way.

    Over-extracted

I chose very very carefully. It is of my strong belief that those Pinots are too much. I think that her zinfandels and petite sirahs can handle it, and I am not complaining at all about her chardonnays. To boot, I've certainly extoled the virtues of the Hayne petite sirah in your presence.

    Over-extracted

Oh boy. This will start some arguments I am sure. Go buy a bottle of Martinelli Pinot Noir. That's a good start.
  22. Isn't it funny the best beer is not always the best beer? The last beer in my fridge was a Miller High Life. The Champagne of bottled beer. After work, it was the best.
  23. Frat-free. I like that. Micheal Flynn at Kinkead's also does a great job with his list, but haven't been there recently for a glass.
  24. If I was going to Nectar, I would go to Citronelle to have a drink. Within walking distance (a bit far) or a short cab ride. Mark does a killer job with his by the glass program. A little closer Marcel's would suit too, great Belgian beer selection. Everything else to my knowledge is GW bars (see frat boys). Just my opinion.
