Your Daily Sweets: What Are You Making and Baking? (2017 – )

Turogomboc - Hungarian farmer's-cheese dumplings. Those served with pasta, home made plum jam, walnuts, cinnamon. With brandy. This is a shared portion, BTW. -

That's a must for a good pad see ew. My method at home is to cook the noodles al-dante, wash and drain. Cook everything but. Lastly mix the noodles with a bit of sauce and fry without stirring, pressing down to compress them. Then mix with the rest.

Guess I was missing Thailand, cause for the next dinner I made a Thai stir fry. Stir fried eggs, wood ear, chili, spring onion, garlic. Fish sauce, some sugar, oyster sauce ,MSG, a little soy sauce. Very savory. Not a noodle dish, but we weren't filling like rice, so I added a few rice noodles. Also stir fried with a bit of soy sauce, so they got caramelized and chewy in places. Beer. But not a Thai one (each country has its strengths and weaknesses).

Massaman curry. Paste bought in a market in Chiang Mai. Some fresh aromatics, not too much coconut cream, tamarind, carrots, mushrooms, tomato, tofu, potatoes, onion. My non-classic version of a yam som o. Pomelo, papaya, scallions, mint, cilantro, lime, palm sugar, peanuts, toasted coconuts. No fried shallots.

The opposite of a local bakery, but still. An Italian colomba. Served lightly toasted. It contains candied orange, vanilla, bitter almonds and candy sugar coating. Very eggy and rich.

Good call. Though I'm an ouzo with the meal kinda-guy.

Steamed buns with chocolate. Chinese pastry filled with: Something sweet and salty, maybe with beans or shrimp. Melon with sesame oil. Durian with a funky guava flavor. Mochi like pastry with black beans and banana flavor. Fried plantains and fried taro. Crisp puffed purple rice cakes with caramel.

Hot ginger juice with stuffed rice balls - egg yolk, red beans, sesame, taro; fried dough, brown sugar. Longan juice smoothie.

Very tasty stir fried woodear with eggs, chili, herbs. Mushrooms in dryish green curry with eggplant and deliciously crispy coconut shoot. Yellow curry young lotus with prawns. Too acidic-sweet (which is not a flavor combination I like that much, too ketchup like).

@ErinKeegan I have my own, but if you are looking for one easy to follow, I can suggest this one by Stella Parks.

After a visit to the temple, we had some time before the dance show that is included in the ticket. We went to a nearby dried fish market, a very small, smelly and interseting market. Definitely not one that sees many tourists.

Spanakopita cups. Mixed some up by adding blue cheese to some and chopped shrimps to some others. Both additions works well, but adding a whole shrimp on top was a bit much Yogurt, tomato salsa, olives and ouzo.

A visit to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and King's Palace. A small upside of the pandemic at the time was that there were really only a few people, which was pleasant when strolling around and admiring the structures, art and detailed murals.

Snacking in Bangkok markets. Really delicious thickly sliced fried taro, hot, with pandan and a crisp coating of sugar. Chive dumplings. Shaved coconut ice cream with fried dough and tapioca balls. Flat rice noodles with shrimp and spicy sauce on a sizzling plate. Warm lightly sweetened coconut milk with boiled egg, taro balls and fresh coconut flesh. Surprisingly popular, given how hot and moist the evenings are.

Home made thick potato starch noodles with a fragrant-spicy fermented black bean sauce (xiang la douchi jiang) - garlic, douchi, peanuts, toasted sesame, chili, sesame oil, soy sauce, black rice vinegar, sugar, five spice. With wood ear mushrooms, egg, scallions. Usually served in a less messy fashion.

Santorini fava, topped with confit garlic and rosemary. Focaccias from the freezer, warmed and crisp. Wine, olives, pickles.
