  1. Near the square across from Epstein's.
  2. Jocelyne's, Maplewood Fascino, Montclair Nicholas, Red Bank Rat's, Hamilton Township would be perfect. You can walk through the sculpture garden for about an hour or hour and a half, have a drink on the patio and then have dinner in the restaurant.
  3. Years ago we ate at Garlands in Oak Creek Canyon. They have a fixed menu. What they cook is what you get. Everything was outstanding and price was reasonable. Many years ago though. If I was in the area I'd check them out.
  4. I had lunch there yesterday which is very inexpensive and comes with soup or salad and a small Thai eggroll. Most lunch items were $8. Started with an excellent mushroom/leek soup. We shared a tofu and Chinese vegetable stir fry that came with a scoop of white rice; Chinese chicken salad; and a spicy noodle dish. Food was just as outstanding as the Somerville location.
  5. Congratulations to the author who has written laugh aloud commentary and has me waiting for more! Great stuff.
  6. Information on the new three course prix-fixe dinner at An American Grill is on Table Hopping With Rosie 5/19--Restaurant News. http://www.njmonthly.com/rosie/rosiemain.html
  7. dinerrm--Welcome to eGullet and thanks for the info. The fact that the restaurant was 3/4 full on a Tuesday night is impressive.
  8. Yes. MANY years ago.
  9. Not in your 5 mile radius but Frog and the Peach in New Brunswick is excellent and they have outdoor dining. Trattoria Fresco in Caldwell. Arthur's Landing in Weehawken. Huntly Tavern in Summit has a lovely party room upstairs. Also liked the food at Verjus in Maplewood but they don't have outdoor dining. Lovely dining room though. There are restaurants by the water in JC with gorgeous views of NYC. One that comes to mind is The Vu.
  10. We recently dined at Trattoria Fresco, 435 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell as we heard that the restaurant was now owned by co-chefs Rich Giacalone and Paul Lustbader. We had a most enjoyable dinner and look forward to returning to this restaurant soon. We started off with an unusual goat cheese-ricotta dumplings which were lightly fried and served with a black olive and tomato ragu. They were delicious and unfortunately I had to share these with my dining companions. The wood roasted asparagus and shrimp were finished with shaved ricotta salata, extra virgin olive oil and vinegar; a light refreshing start to the meal. Wood fire roasted peppers filled with crabmeat and served with a spinach salad were also worthwhile but the winning, don’t miss appetizer was the grilled hearts of romaine served with a Caesar dressing and shaved grana. Entrees were innovatively presented as well as being tasteful treats. The rich, off the bone, Chianti braised short ribs ($19) were presented in an oblong plate with three compartments. One had the meat, one had a tower of julienne vegetable insalata and the third had crispy cippolini onions; fabulous. The boneless tender veal steak ($23) was tomato crusted and served with outrageously delicious lobster filled fresh artichokes and chive whipped potatoes. The bolognese lasagna ($16) was one of the best renditions of this dish I have had in a long time. Consider ordering it as a side for sharing. Housemade pappardelle ($18) paired with shrimp, cannelloni beans, oven dried tomato and broccoli rabe pesto was also a great dish filled with contrasting flavors. The one dessert that you must have is the zeppole served hot with a warm butterscotch dipping sauce. The apple marzipan crisp was fine. We didn’t care for the amaretto crumb crust cheesecake. BYO. 11. Threads have been merged!
  12. OH NO!! It's not BYO?????
  13. You would be surprised at some of the places I've been to. Actually was at a bikers bar in California and lived to write about it. The six feet tall women were scarier then the men!! There is a very good bikers bar in Blairstown called the Red Wolf Inn. If I went to Great Notch what would be the best thing to order?
  14. Loads of postings here: http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showto...3016&hl=Epernay
  15. Never been. Why do I want to go there?? (Been some talk on another page about this place and wanted it to have it's own territory!)
  16. I don't live in Bergen County.
  17. New management? Aren't the Clyde's there anymore?
  18. Thanks for the info Menton1. Can I borrow your library card?
  19. So I called Wild Noodles to see if they were BYO. I was told "no." So I said "you have a liquor license?" I was told "no." So I said "then you are BYO." I was told that "you need a license and insurance for people to BYO." I said, "that is not the law." I was told I was wrong. So if you are going to Wild Noodes and BYO let us know if you weren't allowed to drink your wine or beer.
  20. We had kangaroo right off the barbie in the outback without any sauce and it was excellent.
  21. What about Idaho Falls? Any recommendations?
