  2. Was recently at Loucas for lunch and was very disappointed. The soft shell crabs were tiny and smothered in a fake tasting lemon/butter sauce. Spinach was gritty.
  3. Yes. Everyone bring cash. Anthony-- how much is it with tax and tip? Also, what wines will everyone be bringing? I should have a Turley in the basement and will also bring a reisling unless I find something else very interesting worthy of this crowd.
  4. LIZ26--Can you give us the name of the new Thai in Rockaway and the Moroccann in Budd Lake. Address and phone # also. If I was going to Lou's restaurant with very young children I would go very early in the evening. It's not a casual restaurant like Friday's.
  5. NO--me bad!! I edited your restaurant in! But I was wrong to forget An American Grill. Sorry.
  6. Lou--You need a new pair of glasses.
  7. Zoe's By The Lake website: http://www.zoesbythelake.com/
  8. WestOrangeFrank--Welcome to eGullet. Thanks for the report. Have you been to Sammy's or The Park for steaks yet?
  9. Welcome to eGullet jlevy. If you live in Montclair I can recommend Fascino, Osteria Giotto, Greek Delights, Il Forno, Corso 98 and Epernay which I feel are far superior to Five94. My opinion!!!
  10. There is a place called Scampi in Somerville but I have never been there. Shumi in Somerville has very good sushi.
  11. Well I can also move the posts to a new topic and then merge them with the VG thread. But that's alot of work.
  12. I can merge two topics into one and/or split the topic into a new topic. Sorry. Or copy the posts and bring them to the Village Green thread and I'll delete the old ones. Or keep it like it is as Tommy can be a pain.
  13. Fried parm cheese that is similar to a cheese wafer.
  14. They are open and very busy--noisy too! Be sure to make a reservation as the kitchen is bigger than the dining room which has about 38 seats. There is dining outside weather permitting. Five94 Trattoria, 594 Valley Rd, Montclair 373-744-4120 BYO Our table for two was very small and uncomfortable. A complimentary dish of tomato sauce and herbed goat cheese with a piece of frico was brought to the table when we sat down. Loved it. The bread was fair and considering that Gina’s, an excellent bakery, is in Montclair, this is inexcusable. We shared an appetzer of sautéed broccoi rabe with hot cherry peppers. The rabe was undercooked. An entrée of scallops with white beans were fair. Lowell felt it was missing something—perhaps more seasoning and a vegetable would have completed this dish. Also the scallops appeared to be cut in half to create an appearance of more scallops on the plate. In other words they were thin. Eggplant parm was fine but needed more cheese between the slices. There is an open kitchen and the smell from fish cooking was so overwhelming and fishy that we bypassed coffee and dessert. $55 with tax and tip. If you dine here be sure to let us know your opinion. Would probably give this place another shot in 3-6 months.
  15. Just a reminder that all eGullet gatherings are open to all posters. If you are new here this is a good oportunity to meet other "foodies." And be sure to check out the posting on our Annual eGullet pig roast at http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=42256 This is a not to be missed event.
  16. If husband has a large appetite than go to both restaurants on the same night! Haven't been to Silver Spring Farm in years so I can't comment on that but would be interested in your opinion if you go there. Zoe's has outside dining weather permitting. Village Green is BYO. Zoe's isn't. Both places are excellent.
  17. Welcome to eGullet steve2. Be sure to give us reports of other restaurants you like to dine at.
  18. Ciao is at 665 Martinsville Rd, Basking Ridge (908-647-6007). Same owners as Trap Rock, Huntley, 3 West
  19. If it is anything like Lupa they will be using pork jowls. JUST got some news. Chef/owner is Craig Levy formerly of Amanda's, Il Capo and Ciao. He is a very talented chef. Tommy--get your butt over there......but since they just opened up give them some time to get there act together.
