  1. We often make a special trip to buy the bread. It's excellent.
  2. If you go to An American Grill be sure to let Lou know that you are coming. It's a great place. Los Tapatios has been around for ages. Mexicali Rose has new owners and a new menu.

I thought the GM was exceptionally knowledgeable about food and wine and was very helpful to us when ordering. Not pretentious at all but professional and skilled when dealing with patrons.

If you are looking for someplace to lunch in Montclair consider going to Table 8. Had a lovely lunch there yesterday: wild salmon burger with spicy chipotle aioli, shaved fennel, grapefruit and mint salad; and grilled chicken salad with Granny Smith apples. Would like to try the grilled thin crust pizzas with a variety of toppings next time.

  6. Rosie- The name of my restaurant is Venue in Hoboken NJ. Look Im not trying to bash this place. The concept is really cool, but if you want to keep the reputation you built, you must remain consistant. You should even try to improve not go in the opposite direction. If you were there the last time I was, believe me, you would be frustrated too. ← Jasper--thank you for letting us know which restaurant you own and congratulations on the excellent review you received from David Corcoran in the New York Times NJ section.
  7. Jasper--What is the name of your restaurant? Ginger & Spice received 2 1/2 stars in the November issue of NJ Monthly magazine. p. 100.
  8. We are always so pleased with our dinners at Trattoria Fresco. There’s a new fall menu with two must try dishes: fresh mozzarella and tomato bread pudding served with wild arugula salad and the pistachio biscotti sandwich with winter berry marmellata. Chef/owners Paul Lustbader and Rich Giacalone are to be commended for their innovative dishes. We also had the fabulous Tuscan barbequed duck with sour cherry farrato and cucumber insalata and the crispy “Sicilian” style chicken with blood orange, aromatics, and escarole, served with sweet potato & parsnip fries. For reservations call 973-226-8800; BYO.
  9. Chef Central may have them.
  10. Yes they had one but I think it was more than 15 years ago.

  17. Glad you enjoyed your dinner. Were the doughnuts served warm? If they aren't served right away they lose some zip.

  19. Not one appetizer or entrée plate had a morsel left on it when we dined at The Dining Room at Anthony David’s last night. The restaurant is such a pleasant milieu to dine at. I love the ambiance, food and attentive service. If you haven’t been here put this exceptional eatery on your “must try” list. We started with tender grilled octopus with cannellini beans, basil, tomatoes and garlic; a warm potato tart with prosciutto, caramelized onions and micro greens; romaine salad with shaved parmesan and Caesar vinaigrette and veal bolognese with porcini mushroom, fresh herbs, arugula and tagliatelle. The kitchen knew we were splitting the appetizers and served the pasta in five dishes without being asked and also divided the potato tart. Entrees were wonderful and included Maine lobster, chanterelles, sweet corn and potato gnocchi; crispy duck breast with scallion polenta, wilted arugula and a cherry demi-glace which my sister-in-law proclaimed was the best she has ever had; seared sea scallops with addictive creamed corn, oranges and micro arugula; grilled prawn with over dried tomatoes and artichoke risotto; and Black Angus sirloin with wilted arugula, pecorino mashed potatoes and crispy cippolinis. The steak was a very pleasant surprise as it was exceeding tender with a rich taste. I didn’t expect to have such a good piece of meat in an Italian restaurant. I really shouldn’t have been surprised though as Chef/owner Anthony Pino does everything with such finesse and sends nothing out from the kitchen that is not perfect. Desserts included homemade bourbon glazed donuts; chocolate, cinnamon and pistachio gelatos; grilled figs with Gorgonzola, Tupelo honey and vanilla gelato; and chocolate ganache cake. And what also made the evening was that we found a parking spot one half block from the restaurant. For reservations call 201-222-8359.

So sorry you had a bad experience at Table 8. I've had the spicy cocoa and walnut crusted filet of sole and it was fabulous. There wasn't any sugar in it. Perhaps the kitchen put sugar in the mix instead of a spice. In any case, try Blu, Montclair next and let us know what you think.
